Question Fine, normal, normal - product/technique loves?

I was just thinking that recently I've seen quite a few wavies (like myself) whose hair properties are fine texture, normal porosity, normal elasticity, and it might be nice (especially for people who are more new to the boards or anyone who wants some ideas for their inner PJ) to have people with these properties list any products or techniques that seem to work for them.

Products:
Giovanni Smooth as Silk (low poo) - didn't strip my hair of moisture like other low poos I had tried (like Everpure and Renpure in the red bottle)
Aubrey Organics GPB (rinse out) - great dose of protein for my fine hair, generally rotate it with a lighter conditioner with little to no protein
Cure Care (rinse out) - another conditioner with a good amount of protein, use this or Aubrey Organics during the week between protein treatments, also sometimes use it as a leave in
Tresemme Naturals (rinse out) - doesn't weigh down my fine hair
KCKT (leave in) - doesn't weigh my hair down
CJ CCCC Lite (leave in) - doesn't weigh my hair down, makes my hair feel really smooth
KCCC (styling product) - gives me good clumps - good when used under BRHG
AG Re:Coil (styling product) - gives great clumps - good when used under BRHG
BRHG (styling product) - very hard hold gel I layer on top of other styling products makes sure my waves stay all day
Shea Moisture Curl Milk (styling product) - nice for scrunching out the crunch

Techniques:
Icequeen - helps a great deal with clumping
Plopping (for 5-20 minutes) - works to set up clumps, best if I scrunch in a curl cream or gelly before plopping
Scrunch 'n Pump - one of the best ways to encourage my waves to clump
Pixie Diffusing - this or diffusing in general is necessary to set the gel cast so my waves will last all day

Link to techniques: TECHNIQUES LINKS: SuperSoaker,Spritz&Condish,Plopping,Frizz,Clipping IceQueen, etc

Link to list of acronyms for products: Acronyms/Abbreviations/Definitions!

Can't wait to see what everyone else uses

This is going to be embarrassingly long, but I am the ultimate PJ!

Products
Co-Wash
Tresemme Naturals Radiant Volume- This is the only straight conditioner I will use for co-washing. Great slip, rinses clean, feels nice and light
CJ Daily Fix- My HG cleanser- I much prefer cleansing conditioners to staring conditioners for co-washing. This one cleans my scalp and roots but also moisturizes without feeling heavy
L'Oreal Evercreme Cleansing Conditioner- I like this as a cheap alternative to CJDF. I don't love it, but it does what it's supposed to do
Deva Curl No-Poo- Used this for two years before I ever heard of CG. Will use in a pinch, but after trying CJDF, this product seems kind of drying in comparison
Jessicurl HCC- Cleanses well, does not feel as moisturizing as CJDF
ION Reconstructor- Yes, this is technically a PT, but it has two different surfacants in it so I decided to start using it as a cleanser to get some extra protein into my hair. Not as moisturizing as the other products, but cleanses well and smells wonderful
Suave Natural Coconut-I tried it, I hated it. Made my roots feel super gunky.

Low-Poo
SM Moisture Retention- This is my current favorite because it doesn't feel as drying as most of the low-poos I've tried
Renpure Organics (red)- Not quite as moisturizing as the SM, but still very gentle compared to other low-poos
DermOrganics Conditioning Shampoo- moisturizes like a conditioner, cleanses like a shampoo- this stuff is fabulous (can be difficult to find on the ground)
Giovanni (50/50 and TTT)- I clumped these together because even though the 50/50 definitely had a better moisture balance, in the grand scheme of things, I found both to be about average in terms of a good balance between cleansing and moisturizing
KC Come Clean- This left my hair feeling much worse than my weekly sulfate shampoo- very drying!

Clarify- CHS Treatment Shampoo- If I'm using cleansing conditioners I don't technically have the need to clarify, but I like to use this protein heavy shampoo immediately before my PT/DT

Rinse Outs
GFTN- This is in regular rotation, but I most often use it to add extra slip and moisture to protein-heavy conditioners
CJ Beauticurls- Light but moisturizing, compliments CJDF perfectly
Jessicurl Too Shea- More moisturizing than I expected, not as much slip as I would like
TN Nourishing Moisture- Lighter than GFTN, but I use it the same way for the same reasons. I also use this as my LI most days.
ION Effective Care- My between PT protein boost. I mix with GFTN or TN
CHS Pure Silk Protein- I use this the same way as the Effective Care and the results are very similar- will probably not re-purchase only because Effective Care is way less expensive

StylingBiotera Curl Creme- I rotate this pretty regularly. I don't find the results nearlt as good as Re:coil, but since it's cheap, I find it great for everyday wash and go styling
Re:Coil- I love this stuff! I haven't found a combination that didn't work with this
Curl Keeper- I use this when I'm looking foir seriously awesome hair, usually for a night out
CJPP- I like the goopy feeling this gel has, but I need to add a bit of BRHG to it for extra hold
Biotera Gel- I like to use this when I diffuse because the thin consistency work well for SMasters technique
BRHG- I mix this with other gels for extra hold
Deva ArcAngel- This is in my regular rotation- better hold than AnGel
CJCCCCL- I found that I prefer this product for SOTC or to smooth out frizzes on second day hair. I found that in a pinch CJCCCC mixed with CIAB is also a nice SOTC mix
HETT Mousse- I use this on the rare occasion that I get to try for second day hair

Techniques- Plopping (5-10 minutes only), diffusing (I have no patience for Pixie Curl method). I will t-shirt scrunch if I'm really in a hurry and need to get my hair reasonably dry (like when I'm running late for work in the dead of winter), but try to avoid when I can because it makes my curls stringier

You gals are really making me want to go shopping lol! But also making me question if my co-wash may be too heavy for my fine hair.

When I have time I'll make my list even though I'm pretty new to all this and can't tell as much information as you guys did.

@kimmidawn I hate to sound dumb but I want to try the icequeen method and want to make sure I understand correctly...so when in the shower you scrunch in a large amount of conditioner in hair then rinse and leave in a small amount of conditioner? I'll try anything to promote clumping!!

We were all new at this at some point, so we can all relate to still trying to figure stuff out.

My understanding of IceQueen (and I hope Kimmidawn will correct me if I'm wrong), is that you scrunch in your conditioner to promote curl formation. Then you rinse it all out under very cold water upside down (bending over forward). Then scrunch some back in as a LI. I don't do the cold water thing, but this is essentially how I do my RO/LI

Ok here it goes. Sorry in advance if not very helpful.

Low-poo:
Renpure (green)- This low poo does not lather well but I like the results...I do not feel too dry or over moisturized.
Renpure (red)- This lathers more than the green one. I still like the results but sometimes I feel like this can be TOO moisturizing for my thin, fine hair.

Co-wash:
Suave Apple Conditioner- The only co-wash I have tried. I liked it at first because it gave me great slip and I thought since it seems pretty watered down that it wouldn't make my hair greasy but not so sure about that anymore. Some days I can co-wash and my hair seems ok, other days it seems too greasy (maybe it is from too much product - unsure).

Curl Cream:
CJ Coffee Coco Curl Creme Lite- love this. If I do not use too much this cream is actually light enough for my thin hair. When I first started my CG journey I only used this and Gelebration Spray and I loved the results.

Products:
Jessicurl Gelebration Spray (Island Fantasy scent)- love this. I think the mag sulfate might make my hair a little dry but to no extreme. This gel is light and gives me enough firmness but softness also (can get crunchy if use too much but always easy to SOTC). My only problem with this is that I am going through it so fast. Also the spray on the bottle sucks so I just spray it into my palm a few times and then scrunch it in. At first I didn't know how I felt about the scent but it has grown on me a lot.
Mop Top Herbal Detangler/Refreshing Spray- still not so sure how I feel about this. Only detangles well if used in conjuction with a LI (which is stated in the directions but kind of defeats the purpose). I HATE the smell to be completely honest; it makes me sick! I do think this defines my waves more and gives me extra moisture when I need it.
Homemade FSG- love my FSG. It gives me good definition and it was way simpler to make than I thought (mine only made from seeds and water because I didn't have anything else).
BRHG- I want to love this since so many wavies swear by this but I am not sure how I feel about it yet. I like that it gives me a good crunch to be able to scrunch out later but some days when I SOTC it leaves my hair too soft (no definition left). I may be scrunching it out too soon (?) but I am unable to leave it in for hours like others because I have to go to work.
AG Set it Straight- Only used this once when I wanted to wear my hair straight but I really liked the results. I also liked that it isn't oily like other heat protectants.

Methods:
I am kind of random in my methods because I am still trying to figure out what works best for me.
Plopping- I do this almost everyday anywhere from 20-30 mins.
Super Soaker Method- used this when I first started to get clumps (only method I have gotten clumps with so far).
Pixie-diffuse- I tried this but got too impatient for it and when I have BRHG on my hair I don't get fly-aways/frizz anyway.
Spray bottle full of water= my best friend. I use it in the morning when I wash my hair the night before or when just when my hair starts to get too dry after washing in the morning.
I usually at least diffuse my roots upside down to get them some volume. I have tried clipping but have had no luck with it as of yet. I also use a Denman brush on my hair everyday that I wash it...I just can't get used to going around with crazy looking hair.

I think that is all. Sorry this is crazy long haha.

I usually use Tresemme Naturals so basically what I do is I stand upright and put a good amount through my hair, then I turn so my hair is hanging upside down and scrunch sections of my hair til it kind of feels like seaweed (I wasn't sure I would know what it would feel like, but it felt like thick squishy clumps). Then, still upside down, I cup water in my hands (so my hair doesn't go back under the running water), and use the water to scrunch my hair so it gets the excess conditioner out. My hair generally takes 2-4 minutes to "rinse out" using this method, but by the end of it (I usually stop scrunching when I can tell there's just a bit of conditioner left in if I feel it needs that extra moisture, but I don't know if that would weigh your hair down), my hair is in nice big clumps. Now I'm not sure if that's technically the Icequeen method or if I adapted what I read, but it gives me nice big clumps so that's all that matters to me .

Oh and don't feel bad about your post being long; I think when you're new to this, you would rather have more information and know exactly what to do versus only getting a little info and having to continue searching because you have more questions.

@Corrina, I love how long your list is I do kind of want to go shopping for products though; this made me really want to try the Curl Keeper. What other products do you use with it?

@Mimee, as far as the BRHG, how long after you put in in do you SOTC? I find if my hair is damp at all (I feel the roots on the back of my head to kind of check), my waves don't last as long, so the longer I can let it stay in there without SOTC, the better.

So far I've had the best luck combining CK after re:coil, followed by gel and diffuser. I wasn't thrilled the one time I air dried with CK, but it's probably something I need to play with a bit more, especially since I tried it in the middle of my coconut oil disaster.

I believe I have these same properties I use a lot of product though!

Low Poo- Burt's Bees Very Volumizing- It's okay, it cleans my hair fine and it's the only low poo I have. Doesn't volumize though.

Co Wash- Suave Juicy Green Apples or Suave Ocean Breeze-They're great! Sometimes I'll use them as a rinse out if my hair is feeling a little too moisturized. They both make my scalp feel very soft. Ocean Breeze is my favorite scent ever!

Rinse Out-GFTN, KCKT, HETT, GFL&S, GFS&S- All are okay and great at moisturizing. I like KCKT best because it's light but I only need a little to detangle, but I don't use it a lot because it's expensive. My GFS&S is watered down because the cap came off, but I use that when my hair doesn't need moisture. I like HETT a lot but it has bis-something dimethicone, so I dont use that a lot since I clarify like once every other week. GFTN is very moisturizing.

Leave Ins- CCCL-best leave in ever. It's not curl enhancing enough for me as a styler, but great at moisturizing and a tiny bit curl enhancing. Sometimes I use KCKT but only if my hair is very very dry or I'm about to straighten it (neither is very oftten)

Curl Creams-AG:Recoi-my favorite. I use it 98% of the time. I have SSCEJ but that sometimes feels too product-y. I always use FSG after my curl Creme. (I make the standard kind)

Gels- Devacurl ArcAngel, Ecostyler Krystal, GFPC-ArcAngel is my favorite. Ecostyler I use a lot because it's cheap and pretty comparable. GFPC gives good results half the time, and half the time it fails completely. Since the warmer weather has come up I've been using mousses a lot more since they're lighter and make my hair fuller and fluffier.

Mousses-GF Curl Boosting Mousse, HETT, Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam, B&B Holding Foam-GF is okay, so is HETT they're both cheap but give unpredictable results. I've been loving the Sculpting Foam with the B&B on top. It gave me 3 day hair, and it would have lasted longer if I didn't have to tie my hair up really tightly for a play. I really want to try Joico JoiWhip but I'm having trouble finding it in stores.

Finishers- KCCC for SMasters is amazing. CIAB is great as a serum to SOTC, and I also use coconut oil to SOTC. Devacurl SIF is amazing before dry plopping over night for 2nd day curls, as well as to set hair after SOTC. Sometimes I hairspray with HEBE and use my Pink Sugar Hair Perfume.

Techniques- Deva way for washing s'wavy and wavy hair in the shower, plopping for 20 mins, scrunching in products, SMASTERS WITH KCCC for curls and hold, pixie diffusing, plopping overnight on dry hair. (with a little SIF before tying the shirt)

3 products I can't get to work for me are LALSG-not enough hold. CK-curls are too limp (then again I don't have a major frizz problem) and TIGI Curls Rock Curl Amplifier (old formulation)- feels sticky and product-y, doesn't give me curls but gives me weird bends all down each clump of hair.

I'm fine, normal, normal as well (and medium-high density) and wanted to revive this thread after a year...

I had my analysis results less than a week ago and I already tried to stop the PJ but I can't
I have been dying to buy "good" products for months now, but I didn't want to spend all this money before knowing my hair analysis results. Now I do though, so I will be ordering some things (and I want to order more things at one time since shipping costs will be high probably, considering I live in Belgium).

Which products of my Product Wishlist (assembled by products I heard good things about the last couple of months) would be good for my fine, normal, normal hair and wouldn't way it down? Which products would I better stay away from?

Product Wishlist:
Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee
Yes to Cucumbers conditioner
Bodyshop rainforest radiance shampoo
Kinky curly curling custard
Kinky curly knot today leave-in conditioner
Kinky-curly come clean moisturizing shampoo
curly hair solutions curl keeper
aubrey organics GPB conditioner
aubrey organics honeysuckle rose conditioner
V05 Tangerine Tickle Conditioner
Shea Moisture Organic Coconut and Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie
Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo
Curl Junkie Curl Rehab Moisturizing hair treatment
Curl Junkie Daily Fix Cleansing Conditioner
Curl Junkie Repair me!
Curl Junkie Curl Queen
Inecto coconut conditioner
Suave tropical coconut conditioner

I do the "wet dog" shake for clumping! When my head is upside down with LI and product in it after my shower, but before I blot any excess water out or scrunch or anything, I shake my head back and forth like a wet dog (don't do this if you have bad balance lol). Probably 6-8 shakes if you want to get technical. It makes great clumps, and then I blot/scrunch/what have you with my flour sack towel. It also seems to eliminate the trouble I had flipping my hair upright after being upside down.

So is this before or after you add gel? If after, does that mean you rake in gel, shake, then scrunch?

Kimmiedawn, I tried sending you a PM but I don't think it went through.

Your hair in your avatar is so lovely and it looks, unclumped? Is that just the photo? I was wondering how you get that effect.

I do it after LI and KCCC but before gel (the gel holds the clumps in place after I create them). Or if I'm going super low-key I do it after LI and SM curl and style milk, with nothing after. I'd say do it before anything really sticky that would keep the hair from separating into the clumps that it wants to. Then I gel, scrunch, all that jazz.
