I'm very intrigued by this. Which kind of oil seems to work best for most of you? I'm thinking of starting with trying either coconut, jojoba, or argan...

@carrielynn - what are your hair properties? That might help determine what will work best, or if you have a hair twin, you might be able to ask them.

Well, it really depends on what your hair likes! However, I think coconut oil and EVOO do eventually at least partly absorb into hair, so they work better for sealing if you wash more often, IMO. Other oils, like jojoba, don't penetrate the hair shaft, so they will stay coating the hair longer.

My best guess is fine texture, normal to high porosity, and normal elasticity. Although I'm thinking of getting an analysis done to know for sure...

I currently wash every other day, but would love to stretch it out longer. I'm just not having any luck with 2nd, 3rd, etc. day hair, so if I know I'm going somewhere that I need to look better than a run-down mom, I wash. Still experimenting with products...

I have found I HAVE to have protein and moisture to get good 2nd day hair.

As someone just said, coconut and olive oils both penetrate, so they get more moisture into your hair.

The others coat more, which makes me think they do a better job of sealing moisture in.

I seal with jojoba, mainly, but will use coconut oil on 2nd day hair and to help smooth frizz. It also has some natural SPF.

Jojoba will help smooth frizz, too, and adds shine.

I also like SM's elixir. It had a mix of oils (including Shea and argan), and is good for shine and frizz taming. I've never used it to seal - will have to try that.

It comes in a spray bottle, but just spray it into your palm to use it - the spray is too heavy!

I recently started experimenting with sealing. It's making an amazing difference in maintaining moisture/enhancing curl definition. I've only used coconut oil but I'm interested in trying other oils this summer like argan and sweet almond oil. Love it so far!

For fine hair (like mine), I was suggested safflower or grape seed oil. Haven't yet tried them, although I've bought the safflower, but they are supposed to be light and not greasy.

I've been curious on sealing too, but I keep fearing that my poor, fine hair is gonna get weighed down and that I'll have to wash more often. But maybe I'll try, once I get the protein balance back. I'm pretty sure I am over-conditioned right now, as my hair is super soft, and the curls and waves seem a little droopy. I can't really say whether the frizz is related, since I have always got a bit of frizz regardless of what I do.

So glad I found this thread! I'm quite new to CG and sealing really confused me. I got some Argan Oil (which I like) and I was using it to scrunch out crunch and smooth out frizz ( just using a drop or two) after my hair dried. Now it sounds like sealing fits in somewhere else, am I right in thinking you seal on wet hair, after leave in or moisturiser product, but before gel or styler? If your styler is quite moisturising could it go before oil?

Thanks for any answers!
