Dry climate :(

Quick update - As you know, I've been experimenting with different samples of LI and jelly type products. One of the jelly stylers is UFD curly magic - holy cow! Loving this stuff! I've used it several times, in combination wih several different LI and other products, and every time my hair is soft, shiny, and frizz free. I will usually sacrifice frizz control to get more touchable soft hair, but with this I don't have to. It is also glycerin free (great for our dry climates). To me it behaves a lot like FSG, maybe better. It gives good hold with no crunch (I hate the crunch, and dont like hard hold gels), and my hair feels moisturized but not weighed down (important for those of us with fine hair). I only wish it was less expensive ($25), but my results have been so good, I'll probably by it anyway.

Here are the ingredients: Organic Aloe Vera Juice, Aqueous-Infused Extracts of Marshmallow, Chamomile, Nettle, Horsetail, Vitamin E, Agave Nectar Extract, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate and Natural Fragrance.

The KCCC was too difficult for me to figure out a good amount (always left my hair feeling sticky and producty if I used too much, but no frizz control if I used to little), but the UFD did not do this. It felt much less sticky going into my hair, and much easier to distribute. Did not leave any leftover product feeling in my hair, and excellent frizz control. I suppose it probably works very similarly to the KCCC in terms of hold, shine, etc., but I think the UFD has a much easier learning curve, and I like the way it feels better.

My favorite brands are Kinky Curly, As I am, Curly Kinks, Curl Junkie, and Darcy's Botanicals. Also love sealing with oils (loving argan oil right now) and styling with jelly products (KCCC is my current favorite). Mostly trying to keep it simple!

Okay, Curlsnswirls, your post got me thinking about KCCC some more - it has been a little while since I tried it, and my hair is doing much better now (better moisture protein balance), and it got me wondering if I would like the KCCC better now (I've read where that's happened to others with this product). Also, it does seem similar to the UFD curly magic, so I looked up the ingredients again.

Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic ingredients: Organic Aloe Vera Juice, Aqueous-Infused Extracts of Marshmallow, Chamomile, Nettle, Horsetail, Vitamin E, Agave Nectar Extract, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate and Natural Fragrance.

Kinky Curly Curling Custard ingredients: botanical infusion of water, horsetail, chamomile, nettle and marshmallow, organic aloe vera juice, agave nectar extract, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin e), pectic, citric acid, potassium sorbate and natural fragrance

Very similar! The only differences I can tell is maybe the amounts of each ingredient (UFD has aloe first on the list, KCCC does not), and UFD doesn't have any pectic. This has me thinking about trying KCCC again (unless the pectic is the one ingredient my hair doesn't like - is that even possible?).

I've tried both KCCC and UFD Curly Magic almost side by side and the results are very similar for me. Both give great curl enhancement and promote lots of clumps. I find UFD CM to feel a little lighter than KCCC but neither really weigh my hair down.

I think it's awesome that you all can get these producst to work so well in a dry climate, since they are so heavy in humectants. I guess the leave in and the sealer, would help prevent that problem. Please, I know you already did, but list some of your best combs you use with these two, as many say KCKT isn't moisturizing enough, although I seem to be fine with it.

I like the results I get with botanical spirits gel, and even KCCC and I do have AOMM, but I haven't used it in a while. The thing is technically Im rotating products, but look at the ingredients and they're almost the same. I'll have to try oil again and maybe rotate. But do you think then if I restyle daily, I could get away with using oil daily???? My worry is that article taht says it just sits on the hair, isn't absorbed, and then it will start to seal off moisture. also, do you just do ends with it, or do you do whole length, or scrunch with it???

UPDATE:
I've tried the following products only once but see are my first impressions.

Jessicurls gentle cleansing shampoo with added babassu oil=great results so far. will alternate with co-washing.

Renpure Argan oil conditioner-very "slippery" and a light perfume scent. So far I like it. Felt silky going on. I will try as a leave in next time.

Joico joiwhip-used it after leave in, sealing, recoil...results, very soft and defined clumpy curls....I'm very pleased so far. I love the scent.

3-in-1 mousse (purple)-used same as the joico...results were very similar to that of the joico...so far I like it as well.

I also purchased the pink 3-in-1 mousse and will try later.

It seems that most people had good results applying the mousse over a styling cream oR using a gel over the mousse. I will keep experimenting to see which combos I like best.

I would like to purchase the renpure keratin conditioner soon. I'm also thinking of taking advantage of the sale on Regis line olive oil conditioner (BOGO 1/2 off). A liter is $17, which is a good price to begin with. I have used it in the past with good results.

I guess your hair must really absorb moisture and oils to be able to handle that much oil/conditiones. YOu go girl. Beautiful curls.

I think this was when it looked the most defined, even those S-waves in the shorter layers are so totally defined. I will have to try sealing after the plop!![

QUOTE=jsuzkelley;1973179]Here's some pics of how this turned out today. It looks pretty good in the photos, but I think you can tell there is not as much volume, and less clumps on the canopy.

Yesterday I co-washed with SN (with a little CJDF on my scalp/roots), RO with DB pumpkin seed condish, SM curl/style milk as my LI, just a few drops of EO serum to seal (I raked it through), then the UFD curly magic. I super soaked, then plopped, then scrunched some DB curl styling cream into the ends and air dried. I'm finding that a good moisturizing LI is important, or extra oils (if I don't use the EO serum, I like grape seed, apricot, or sweet almond). My favorite LI's right now are Sm curl/style, CK satin roots, and Shescentit coco cream.

For example, When I do an oil treatment I have to Use almost a half a cup of oil for my hair to look and feel saturated.
I've never had any problems with any product clashing with KCCC, everyone's hair is different. Here's a picture of my hair with a little oil as a sealer, FSG and HESMU. My hair is actually much darker than in the picture, black but the lighting makes it look much lighter.

Wow! Great thread!

I'm in CO too; my hair is doing great today with the slightly higher dews.

Those of you that use KCCC, how do you do it?

I just picked some up today while I was out and about. I was unsure about following the label or how to use it in conjunction with my other stuff. (use this instead of gel? or after?; plop after?)

So when the dews have been lower, I've used KCSS as my gel. Is that crazy? I totally have no idea what I'm doing. This is why I'm here I suppose
So now that its cold and dryer, what is everyone using???

Yesterday and today I have had fabulous hair!!

Yesterday I used a shampoo bar. Used my CJ curl rehab (I'm almost out, boohoo!) as a rinse out. Used MarieDeans red clover leave in (dime size), sealed with 50/50 (4-5 drops each) of mineral oil and EO's oil blend....used about a nickel blob of MD curl styling cream...smoothed and raked in some UFDCM and topped with a dab of BRHG....LOVE MY HAIR!!! I woke up with awesome 2nd day hair that I didn't have to refresh!!!!
I know it sounds like a lot, but my hair looks and feels fabulous!!

Only thing...is I didn't get to leave the house because of the snow!!!

I just ordered a couple tubes of the infamous Mop-C curl defining cream and anxious to see how that works out. I need to purchase some more Rehab too.

I've been sealing with the MO+oil for several weeks in a row and its now a staple. <3
I used it on and off with results but now use it every time I freshly style my hair. When using a thinner leave-in, I mix the oils with my leave-in..otherwise I just apply on top of my leave-in.

I have lots of favorite products in my siggy that I've been loving.
