Spin off: What are stylists compelled to tell you?
What comments, good or bad, do you hear over and over from stylists?

I've never not had a stylist mention that my hair is fine. My hair is very fine and all stylists comment on it. I was surprised when I first came here that people didn't know their texture. I had thought stylists casually mentioned a person's texture to everyone.
Pre CG stylists used to say "I thought your hair was really damaged until we got the dead ends off. It's actually in good condition." (it wasn't in good condition, just not as bad as they thought)
"Your hair is so fun to work with." I have a week wave pattern. This means it won't do anything on its own, but will do whatever you tell it to. Fun for stylists.

I've been told I have "kinky" hair which would get me mad bc the stylist would make it sound like a bad thing. Then, whenever I would go for my trims with curly hair my stylist would straighten it bc she didn't know what to do. SMH.

Difficult wave. Too fine, too soft to hold a curl. Too soft to hold a style. "Wow, there isn't much of it, is there?" Stylists don't like to cut my hair. They get bored and start talking to their coworkers. They want to texturize it and do something "interesting." I say, "it's wavy" and they proceed to tell me it's not, or compare me to a bunch of other people, which pushes all the female insecurity-about-physical-appearance buttons. I even had an argument about a cowlick once (oh yes it IS - there, I win).
Oh yeah, why did I come in for a haircut if I had (in the past) no intention of spending a bunch of time styling it and using hairspray and everything I used to hate? (Um, because I was hoping the professional hairstylist could show me how to make my hair presentable, not just tell me why it isn't or can't be). Vent over. For now...

I get told that I have a lot of hair! Duh, I know...
Or that I have a light wave in my hair, "do you want me to blowdry it straight?"

"Your hair is so fine, but there is a lot of it!" I think every hairdresser I have ever seen has told me that. They also always ask if I want then to style it (aka blow dry/ straighten).

Your hair doesn't look so thick, but wow you have enough hair for 3 heads.

That my hair is fine. If it wasnt for the curl I would have no volume. My hair is wavy, not curly. I have a lot of cowlicks.

"Wow, you have a lot of hair!"
Every time. At least once. Usually at least twice. Yes thank you I'm aware since I'm the one who washes and styles it.

The obvious stuff - do they wonder if I don't know this? "Your hair isn't straight!" Duh.
I had one stylist as a kid that my mom used to drag me to that swore up and down I had beautiful curls and I shouldn't fight them - that straight hair is boring. This being said with a straight face under her fake haircolor and perm, while she talked 90 miles an hour, got an entire haircut done in 10 minutes, smoking cigarettes the whole time.
Otherwise - I've never heard a peep about my texture. Not sure I ever had a stylist that appreciates/understands curly hair. Most of them would just ask me if I wanted a blowout and flatironing job. Now I go to a girl with a full head of spirals who never straightens her hair and while she's not Deva trained or anything, she does a good job with a wet cut and at least understands and respects my desire to not use razors/thinning shears and loves that I want to wear mine curly.

I always hear, "Your hair is very fine." (Yes, I know! It's not like I'm asking for a style that calls for thick hair and they're trying to warn me that it won't work!)
I always hear, "You have a lot of wave." They don't tell me what that means, though. (Hmm.. next time I'll ask them, "What does that mean? How would it affect my hair style choices?")
Sometimes (50% of the time) they ask me if my wave is natural.
They always ask me if I want it blown out straight, or diffused curly, which I like

This is what I get. If you make a ponytail out of my hair, it's not very large in circumference. But when it's loose, it can look very full.
I get the "your hair is so much fun" a lot too, even though my hair definitely has a mind of its own.
Most of the comments I can recall as positive because I stopped going to regular hairstylists a while ago. I only give my business to curl friendly ones now.

I get, "you know, your hair is really healthy for only getting it trimmed twice per year and dying it at home."
Yeah, I know. I attribute it to not using sulfates and for letting it air dry for 2 years. I only just now started using the blow dryer again so I can diffuse and freeze my curls into place. I feel like if I let it air dry now, the wave stretches out too much.
I also get the typical "your hair is fine, but there's so much of it!" comments.

One hairstylist kept repeatedly telling me that my hair was really "heavy" while she repeatedly failed at putting an updo in my hair (for 2 hours) for prom. I'm STILL not even sure what the means.

I'd guess that means she's not that good at updos.

That I have a LOT of hair! Every new stylist comments on that within the first 10 secs or so. They all mentioned my "coarse" texture which by now I know means I have kinky hair.
And I was really surprised when a few commented on the "wave" in my hair. I laughed until I really started to play around with it.
Another biggie is that they all want to thin it to get the weight off. I explain that my hair has a tendency to poof out and I then get triangle head from it.
