2c Documenting my Journey...

I have decided to try this no-shampoo method... interesting! I am new to all this but I got the gist of what to do interms of "co-washing"... so that's what I did this morning.

My hair is 2C... I guess?

Some photos:

Yesterday- normal shampoo (yes cheap sulfate shampoo )

And today:

We'll see how it goes. I am skeptical that my scalp will survive without shampoo... but am excited to embrace these silly curls that have plagued me for 34 years

Your hair looks great! Very pretty, strong waves. I have 2C hair as well, but mine is thick and coarse... yours looks a little finer/softer, from what I can see. It's lovely. Hopefully co-washing works for you; it made all the difference for my hair! Keep is updated!
whurly girly (2C/3A).
thick; medium/coarse; low porosity.
hair that is drier than the sahara desert.

LOW-POO: Renpure Organics
CO: L'Oreal EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner
RO: Renpure Keratin Conditioner. New HG!
LI: L'Oreal EverSleek Humidity-Defying LI Creme
Styling: SM Curl Milk, Argan Oil for sealing, sometimes GFPC Gel, some honey for hold, TIGI Control Freak Serum!!
PS: Your scalp may not react well for the first few days, but give it some time. When you use harsh shampoos, your scalp produces extra oil to replenish what it lost. But now that you switched to conditioner, it might need some time to readjust.

Your hair is very pretty, and I can already see improvement! Good luck, and I look forward to seeing how your hair looks after a couple more weeks.
Your hair looks beautiful! If you find that strictly co-washing doesn't work for you, many wavies low-poo (sulfate-free shampoo). Best of luck!
Wave Pattern: 2A
Hair Properties: Normal/Low Porosity, Medium Density, Medium Texture w/Fine Straight Underlayer
Co-wash: Suave Naturals, Cure Care
Low-poo: Renpure Brazilian Keratin
Rinse Out & Leave In: Tresemme Naturals
Gel: LA Looks Mega Mega Hold Gel, Garnier Fructis Spray Gel
Your scalp will eventually adjust when you get rid of the sulfates. I won't lie, the first week of co-washing for me was great and then the following 3-4 weeks my hair started looking grimy. What happens is that sulfates strip so much oil from your scalp/hair that your scalp starts over producing oil. So when you stop, it takes a few weeks for your scalp to figure it out and produce less. I wore my hair up a lot and wore ball caps a lot during those weeks, but once I got through it, I was golden. I now only wash my hair twice per week and do not have greasy hair/scalp issues. My hair is much softer and I get more compliments on it now too. It's wonderful.
I appreciate everyone's comments. One of my main concerns with this entire process is that my job sometimes involves high-profile meetings with executive management of some large corporations. To this point, I almost always have straightened my hair to a mild wave for important meetings/presentations. (the one time I left it curly, it was a HORRIBLE hair day and unfortunately, there's press photos all over the internet of that day )

I am going to experiment with pulling it back (half-barrette? twist?) and keep it curly for an upcoming big business event in less than a week. We shall see how this goes!

Thanks everyone!

I've noticed that my bad hair days (of which I have many) aren't nearly as noticeable to others as they are to me.

I think we have very similar hair! I'll be following this, as I'm just starting my own wavy-hair journey.

Well, my hair seemed... weighted down, I guess, after 5 days of co-wash. I bought a sulfate free smoothing shampoo and used that this morning.

I think I used too much product, however, as my hair was rather greasy and weighted down all day. This pic has my hair still slightly wet... and it ended up greasier

I think I will co-wash every 4-5 days... I'll keep experimenting

Your hair is really pretty, and your waves already look more defined! When I first started CG, I tried co-washing, and it made my fine waves greasy and limp. Now I use Deva No Poo for most washes, with an occasional use of Trader Joe's Tea Tree shampoo, and my hair looks much better. It took me a few months to adjust since I was used to washing it every day (especially since I work out 5-6 times a week), but now I can get by with washing it just twice a week. Good luck on your journey!

Sorry if this was already addressed...Are you still using the BB curl cream in your siggy? If so, it is loaded with cones and waxes, and if you are just cowashing, that alone will not remove those ingredients in your hair, and will cause build up and that "greasy" feel...

How the days you want nice wavy hair are the days that it's CRAZY CURLY?

Today was the day of a big work event for me. I got up an hour earlier than I needed to, mostly because of my hair, to make sure it was professional...

I live in the southwest where it's VERY dry (sometimes as low as 5% humidity). Today was around 50% humidity and oh. my. god. my hair was insane. Little ringlets that have never appeared before, huge puffy curls. As it dried I tried to tame it, more product, there was no saving it.

I had these tiny little curls in a few random places that I kept playing with all day- you know, the kind that you pull and they go "boing" right back to a tiny curl?

Well everyone will remember my hair, if nothing else, from today. Here's an end of day photo (messy right before bed but you can see it's a bit wild)

I have got to figure out a way to pull it back, still working on that one.
