Moisture w/o weighing down?
So I have 2C/3A ish hair, from what I've been able to tell. It's pretty fine, and there's a lot of it. My current problem is, my hair gets really frizzy and dry as the day goes on, and yet my hair gets all weighed down and flat when I use heavy conditioners. Currently I'm using Suave Ocean Breeze as my daily conditioner, Giovanni DLI as my leave-in, and Herbal Essences Set Me Up as my gel. I use a low-poo about once every week and a half or so. Is there a way for my hair to be soft and moisturized and non-frizzy and at the same time not be flat? Any suggestions would be great.

I've been struggling with this same issue - in the 3a forum someone just suggested that I try sealing before I style, and recommended EO serum. I haven't tried this yet, but I'm hoping this is the piece I'm missing. HTH!

It's darn tricky to get the balance right, and then you have to wonder whether or not there is a specific ingredient that is problematic. I think I seem to do ok with a few conditioners that seem moisturizing enough but are still light.
If it didn't have glycerin in it, I'd say Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner is it, but the glycerin makes me frizz, at least right now. If you are ok with glycerin, I'd say, get a sample from kathymack. I need to find out from Marsha what the closest to this is without glycerin.
The CJ Argan and Olive Oil seemed to meet that balance IIRC, but I'm just meh about it. I prefer Curl Fix and Repair Me, even though they're heavier. And Rehab too, but that is really heavy, so DT only. i can't speak for any other conditioners from CJ.
I really like my Kogi Naturals, but they're local. You can order online though.
Spiral Solutions Caitlin's Conditioner is a staple for fine hair. It seems really rich, but I don't think it is too heavy. My hair is always so shiny after using SS. You can also get samples of this from kathymack.
I'm gonna try Aloeba from Jessicurl as I jus got a few samples of her cleansers and conditioners to try.
I don't really use much drugstore stuff except gel, so I can't say anything there, sorry.
You might try skipping the leave in. Some people need and others don't.

the dynamics of frizz
I'm still trying to figure out what gives me frizz since I don't usually have it. I always get it from products that do not agree with me.
I also cannot use anything heavy, oily or waxy cause it weighs down me wee curls and makes 'em lank and lazy. I don't think my hair is particularly porous as it only happens with certain products.
Glycerine makes my hair greasy. I tried Renpure 'my curls are parched' conditioner and my hair suddenly had a fine flossy flyaway kind of fuzz, it was bizarre. I had to re-wash but it was still there to an extent. Just ONE application did it.
The only thing I can think of is that the products I had been using prior to Ren was very hydrating. Ren likely dried me out for some reason. I'm not sure but it seems frizz for me comes from being too dry.
It's almost as though there's a certain tipping point of having enough moisture to make my fine hair curl rather than fizzle up and frizz. To correct my flossy mess (o and the flossy strands were awfully straight) I went back to the products I'd been using for the past few weeks.
Apparently they had been adding much needed moisture and I had the balance right (until the Renpure debacle) as I'd proudly posted a pic of my naked hair with surprisingly springy curls. I remember thinking, hey, I didn't know my hair was THAT curly! Then I thought since I hadn't seen it curly naked in a couple of years, maybe this is what it really looks like.
The products I'd been using was Jane Carter LI, Condition and Sculpt and another conditioner I can't think of off the top of my head. I was able to fix the flossy issue immediately by about 75% by scrunching in the condition & sculpt. These products have Panthenol and I think protein as well.
I would definitely suggest trying products that are hydrating. It took me about 2 weeks to fully appreciate the difference but I could tell a difference right away.

Just a quick note- I noticed you mentioned using HESMU gel. Make sure you're using the old formula (the teal blue tube) and not the new formula (grayish-purplish-white? with just a teal blue band). HESMU was recently reformulated and the new version is no longer CG-friendly.

My hair gets weighed down realllll easy. You may find you have to low poo more...As for conditioners...I really like CJ Curl Rehab...I don't use it all the time but a smidge works perfectly without weighing me down. I have not been successful with any of the other conditioners. I am really liking the Loreal Evercreme low poo and conditioner...Doesn't weigh me down.
I find I have to be very careful with leave ins...Now as the weather gets warmer, if I use one, I use literally half of my pinky nails worth. I am using spray detanglers more now...I really like CHS Slip Detangler.
I also have to sulfate poo once or twice a week, otherwise my hair just gets flat and gross looking...I have hard water, so it could be that...But I like the way my hair is with a weekly sulfate shampoo. That is when I usually use the Curl Rehab as a rinse out.
Lots of information, hopefully some of it is useful!
