Thumbs down Over-Conditioned

If this isn't over-conditioned hair, I don't know what is.
It looks oily, but it doesn't feel oily or producty. It is very soft and doesn't want to hold my waves. It goes splat not long after after I SOTC. Now you have a visual of what over-conditioning looks like. Merry Christmas. lol

EDITED TO ADD: It wasn't over-conditioned. It was flax seed gel - it makes my hair oily. It happened again today with Rockin' Ringlets. FSG might make a good pre-poo for me, but it is not a good styling product for MY hair {which I believe to be low-porosity}.

I was doing the same thing, trying to keep conditioning to make my hair behave. I have cut my conditioner (tresseme naturals) to about a dime size, only from the ear down. I detangle and rinse out immediately. My waves seem so much bouncier and it's only been a week!

I realized last night I think I'm having the same problem. I use suave naturals for my co wash. But I read somewhere the vo5 is lighter. So I think I'm gonna go buy some of that today. I watered down my leave in, (it was pretty thick, but my canopy would curl). I'm gonna reduce the amounts of conditioner I use and increase how often I lo poo. I also did a pt last night. Let me know if u run across any other suggestions!

Yeah, sort of. I have a spray bottle of white vinegar and lemon juice in the shower. A few times, when I had conditioner in my hair I would spray it to close the cuticle with conditioner inside, and then rinse my hair with cool water to get rid of the vinegar smell. This limpness has happened on those days too.

Suave and VO5 both have clarifying conditioners, which is the only straight conditioner I can use for co-washing. I used to rotate in a once or twice a week low-poo, but switched to a gentle sulfate shampoo that didn't leave my hair feeling stripped (as most low-poss seem to do). Protein treatments can also help with over-conditioning.

Last week I decided I was oc-ing, so last night I added a tiny bit of gelatin to my RO and didn't add as much LI. When I diffused, my hair looked "dread"ful. I pineappled anyway, but it was ridiculous how much Ll I had to add to my dry ends this morning. Who can figure all this stuff out anyway???

Edit: I switched to VO5 clarifying conditioner after using the suave naturals. I like the VO5- it's definitely thinner, spreads easier, and still does the job.

my hair was also over-conditioned
Yesterday I'll put in some DT and let in for about 1,5 hour (way to long, but my JC DT came with the order and It smelled so great lol). my hair was really soft but that's about it. It looked so dull. So I did a mild sulpfhate wash (I know, bad bad) but then again the DT and let it in for only 20 minutes and my hair feels great and my waves are saved

Great save! I usually realize I've over-conditioned when I'm in a hurry to get out the door. I keep adding more and more conditioner to make it behave.... and then I say OH CRAP. Never enough time to even rinse it out...

On a related note, has anyone every tried spraying in some mag. sulfate spray into oc'd hair? Do you think it would help, or would you just get overly producty hair?

Has anyone used a protein spray to fix being over conditioned? I'm finding I get OC really easily and hardly need any condish at all. Maybe a protein/fsg spray for second day hair? Ay thoughts?

Those are good questions! I have a protein spray, but it is also a leave-in conditioner, so I wouldn't want to add it to OC hair.

I'll receive my Rockin' Ringlets today.

I washed my hair today, first with sulfate-free (watered down) L'oreal. My hair felt stripped. So I put on some Suave Coconut on just the sides and front, did a quick detangle and rinsed it out. Then it felt OC again. So I used a sulfate (just a pea sized amount spread over my hands) to do a quick once-over on the most OC part of my hair. I rinsed and now I'm air-drying with no product today for some "naked hair" pix on another forum.

If my hair is still OC looking when it is dry, I'll try some RR on it and tell you what I think.

Maybe it was just the flax seed gel that made my hair look greasy like that. Hmmm. I have naked hair today and the top is very dry. The ends and understory are good/normal.
