Frizzy mess, any tips on styling products? Please!

Hello ladies,
I have read about some styling gels but didn't want the ones that leave your hair with a scrunchy feeling to it.

I have 2b/2c type. Fine, medium and coarse texture. I think low to normal porosity.

I was looking the KCCC and Camille Rose Naturals Aloe Whipped Butter gel.

Do you guys have any tips?

Thanks in advance.
I haven't tried either of those. I've heard AIF doesn't dry too crunchy.
2B/fine to med texture/med porosity

Started CG on 5/5/12!
Battling dry/itchy scalp since April 2010.... Starting to WIN!
Low Poo: Nature's Gate Tea Tree Shampoo
Cowash: GTTTT or GVPCB
RO : Ion Effective Care
LI : KCKT or GVPCB
Stylers : FSG
PT : IAgirl's PT w/ acv, coconut oil, GVPCB, herbs, green tea
Thanks a lot Curly_Lyn. Ill look on that one.
I use KCCC, it doesn't have a lot of hold though so I always top it with BRHG (the hardest hold gel out there). I really like KCCC but it definitely took a lot of trial and error to get to that point.

I have also used AIF and it doesn't have any crunch when it dries (for me) but also as a result not much hold. In the past I have also used Biolage gelee with similar results (no crunch, not much hold, but it does help tame the frizzies at least).

If you do get crunch, just scrunch it out (SOTC) and you should find your hair is soft and bouncy after that. My hair dries crunchy but after SOTC, I have great soft waves. No one that touches my hair would guess I put so much hard hold gel in it. But for me, it's the only way to keep the frizzies at bay and hold my curl pattern while it dries.

Other tips for taming frizz include ACV rinses and oil sealing (applying a teeny tiny amount of oil to your hair after your LI but before any other products). I also swear by coconut oil treatments (smear coconut oil through dry hair, let it sit for a couple of hours, then wash and style as usual) but not everyone's hair loves coconut oil.

Hope something in there helps.
Hello Wavymom! Thanks a lot for replying.

I do oil seal my hair and was just wondering if I should seal it before or after styling.
Where I live is very dry with really low dew points. Now it's 27, so sealing is a must for me.

I have no idea how to SOTC since I have never used styling products on my hair before. But I'll look into that.

Ill see if I can find the products you mentioned.

And thanks again.

There are many ways to SOTC, do a search on this site and you'll find a ton of suggestions. You can use dry hands, or lightly coat them with oil, pomade, curl cream, or some even use conditioner. Then just scrunch your hair. I gather my hair from the bottom and push it up to my roots in a scrunching motion. But many people have many different techniques. Once you are done, your hair should not be crunchy anymore. It is best to do this once your hair is totally dry, although I sometimes do it around 90% dry if I'm in a hurry.

For the oils, just figure out what works best for you. If you put it on after your LI, then you are sealing the moisture from the conditioner in - which is the idea of sealing. If you use oil to SOTC after your products are applied and your hair is dry, that is fine too, but I think it is less of a sealer and more of a softener to help break up the crunch.

Hope this helps.

I just added KCCC back into my rotation. I used it today with Curly Kinks Curlycue ReNew underneath. Our dew point is in the 70's and my hair stayed really well despite being out and about. My hair feels and looks product free; however, with low porosity hair, it does take a long time to absorb the Curlycue ReNew.

KCCC does leave a crunchy feeling. Crunch shouldn't stop you from trying/using a product. When your hair is dry, you can SOTC with your bare hands, a little hair butter or conditioner or a serum.
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Repair Me, CJ Smoothing

jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC, UFD Curly Magic
gels: CJ CQ, BRHG

I am really liking the Biotera curl cream and gel. Alone it's a light hold, but enough. For a stronger hold, I mixed equal amounts of LA Looks Curl Gel and the Biotera Gel, rubbed palms together and raked through. I had more hold, but still not crunchy. I don't like crunchy at all! And, the Biotera and LA Looks Gel together have no stickiness at all. I happy! BTW, Biotera is sold at Sally's
Thanks a lot everybody. You guys are really helpful.
I'll take a look on the ingredients of the gels mentioned here and choose the best for my hair.
And now I know I can always SOTC. (yay) lol
kathy, how did you like the camille rose curl maker?
