CG Product to create piecey hair?
I recently got my hair cut much shorter (a major miscommunication with a rushed new stylist, need to write a review here). It went from long, to a few inches below my chin, my hair needs at least another inch in length before I get it to separate into distinct curls, it now needs a lot of encouragement to not just look like a big solid mass of hair. A month has gone by and I am reviving from my hair depression and ready to try to get it back to looking better.
What I am looking for is a product that will create a more separated look especially at the ends, probably something to apply after my hair is dry. (Before CG I lots of good things but want to have a CG-friendly choice now). I use gel and leave-in condish, but I need something more.
Thanks everyone, in advance!

how about mousse? It always makes my hair much, much more stringy and piecey than gel if I use it alone, which is why I don't.

How about Jonathon's "Dirt"? I think that's CG.

"Dirt" sounds like it might be good to try, thank you! Will see if I can locate a sample somewhere.

I've never tried it, but what about L'Oreal Out of Bed (LOOB)? Is that supposed to create a more "piecey" look?

I was going to ask the same question, re: my daughter's hair so instead of creating a new thread I hope you don't mind me posting here.
I love the way her hair looks as soon as she wakes up in the morning (I've attached a pic) and I want to preserve this look. She has fine, thin, normal porosity hair. She uses KCKT as a leave in. Her hair used to be 3a/b but as it grew longer the curls turned to waves, and once she got a haircut (her hair was waist length and last month she had it cut into a chin length inverted bob) she lost all of her curl. If I brush her hair wet, it straightens out. If I add product other than KCKT and a small bit of CK, it straightens out. I've tried scrunching it while it's wet and it still doesn't do the trick. Would hairspray be the way to go?
Blame it on the cell phone...

Subbrock - your daughter's hair looks similar to my daughter's hair (see pics below). I just started a thread the other day looking for recommendations for her hair. She has fine 2a/2b hair now (she also used it have 3a ringlets when she was little, until her first haircut - now she has looser waves/curls). I have a hard time getting her to not brush her hair - as soon as she does, her hair looses most of the curl (always has some flip on the ends though). One recommendation several people have made is a hard hold gel - but it does take some patience for her not to touch her hair while it's drying. I've also got some JC rockin ringlets I'm going to try on her hair to see of that helps encourage more curl.
If you want to compare notes on our girls' hair, that thread I started is "need product/routine recs for my daughter's hair" and it's in the 2's forum (so we don't hijack this thread).

+1 to this - mousse makes my hair more piecey, less clumpy (at least, the ones I tried). Maybe a pomade type product, applied to the ends, to give some separation/definition.

I agree with LOOB and Garnier and FX make a paste/pomade that I liked when my hair was straight and short. FX is more waxy and Garnier's is more goopy. (I liked FX better, easier to distribute) Both are CG last I saw.

I have short hair (if you're a member of the wavy hair FB group you've seen pictures) and I use KCKT with KCCC and a very small amount of gel for hold.
It is probably too late for this now but any stylist worth anything should fix what you don't like about a cut within a certain time period. For me, I need a lot of "texturizing" and attention to creating "movement" when my hair is short because it is super dense. I know this is usually contraindicated for wavies and curlies but a) I'd rather not look like I have a permenant helmet and b) short hair is a totally different beast from long or medium.
Good luck!
