Frizz or Baby Hairs? (pics)
So I've asked for advice here about frizz before, but tonight I took a picture while my hair was wet bc you can already see some frizz forming
Maybe it's just baby hairs and I'm just being OCD about smooth hair, but really wanted some opinions on how to manage this! My sig may not show up, but I CO wash and do a LI. Then a light mousse and glycerin free gel. I can provide more info if needed!

Usually frizz in wet hair signals some kind of build-up. What products are you using?

I'm checking the ingredients in what I've been using and my anti-frizz serum is ironically nothing but cones!
I use Suave Naturals to CO Wash. GF Sleek and Shine for my LI, Paul Mitchell Gel (glycerin free, but apparently has cones!), and Awapuhi Mousse, which I haven't found ingredients for, but I am sure it had proteins.
I'm having trouble finding CG friendly products. I went to buy a new gel tonight, but it is SO overwhelming when you are in the store! But I really think going CG would benefit my hair soooo much.

Yeah you're going to have build up using cones. Most serums are all cones. Ditch the cones (usually anything ending in -cone or -xane) & get a gentle sulfate free poo or cowash & try it again CG drugstore stuff I've tried are the shea moisture line (walgreens), yes to carrots/cucumbers/tomatoes (walgreens, some walmarts), kinky curly line (target), HETT mousse & gel, tressemme naturals conditioners, suave naturals conditioners, VO5 kiwi lime conditioner... Should give you a good start!

Thanks so much! I'm headed to Wal-Mart or Target today after work to see what I can find.
Are there any CG friendly mousses? I feel like I need one for volume. I LOVE big hair when I wear my hair curly. I don't like it to be limp bc then it looks stringy and greasy.
Edit: Have you tried the L'Oreal Eversleek line? I know it's sulfate free, haven't checked for cones though.

EverSleek is all cone-free. The other Ever lines have cones in some products (not all, but you have to read labels).
Some CG friendly mousses:
Herbal Essences Totally Twisted
TIGI Foxy Curls
Beyond the Zone Noodlehead (at Sally's)
TIGI Curlesque Strong Mousse (my personal favorite- make sure to get Strong Mousse, Lightweight Mousse looks the same but is not CG-friendly)

Thanks so much! There's so much to process. I'm trying to start as simple as possible though.
My next step is trying to decide if I'm protein sensitive or not. I think there's protein in a couple of my products, so I'm thinking of trying some non/lower protein just to see how my hair reacts.
When I wear my hair straight, I use a keratin treatment about once a week that will make my hair feel soft in the shower, but sometimes my ends will feel like straw. So I'm thinking I may be protein sensitive. If I use the treatment when I wear my hair curly, I have no curl formation.

*Typically* hair that is fine in texture and/or high in porosity does well with protein. But some people still need to follow protein with moisture (my hair loves protein, but it also needs lots of moisture).
It can be a lot of information to absorb, but soon it will seem like second nature.

I took guesses at my texture and porosity! I may not actually have coarse hair, it may just be dry. It's difficult to tell to me. I need to look up those articles again and read up on it.

I understand completely! I ended up doing the hair analysis and it turns out that my guesses were all wrong, which explained why my hair didn't act the way I was expecting it to.

Growing up, I always thought my hair was coarse compared to my friends with straight, silky, shiny hair. But it may actually be fine for all I know! It seems very dull and doesn't have shine and is very frizzy and dry (think Brillo pad) without conditioner. I remember a vacation where I forget conditioner once. Worst hair days EVER. I've never skipped conditioner since.

I have a lot of hair, and I've seen strands that were on the coarse side, so I figured my texture was medium/coarse. Turned out to be fine. It was an amazing difference when I started treating my hair like fine hair. If you can do the $12 hair analysis I recommend it.

I need more info on this $12 hair analysis!
I am reading info on hair texture and I am still undecided! My hair has never been colored, so I can't use chemical processing as a factor. And as far as styling..it will curl or straighten, but it won't stay straight due to the humid climate I live in.
And I can't use the strand test well bc my hair is light light blonde and can barely see a single strand anyway! Ugh!!

There should be info on livecurlylivefree.com. Unfortunately I heard a rumor that the price might have gone up, but IMO it's still worth it.

Ok my co-worker has helped me determine I have medium hair and high porosity. She is African-American and says I can't have coarse hair?

That's not true. Coarseness refers to the thickness of your individual strands. Any race or hairtype can have coarse hair.
Blame it on the cell phone...

That's what I thought! I think I fall in between medium and coarse, like I originally thought. Maybe more on the medium side than coarse, but my hair does have some coarse properties, mostly regarding the protein. If I use protein, especially a PT, my hair feels like pine straw. It won't be soft at all.
I went to Target after work and am so excited!! I bought HETT and SN Coconut. I know the CO has protein but in experimenting a bit! I couldn't find any V05 products..

What happens to your hair when you put it in a ponytail? How big around is the base of the ponytail? Do holders or bobby pins or clips leave dents? My hair gets a dent when it gets tucked behind my ears. Is it easy to style with a curling iron? Did you follow the PT with a DT? Protein with no moisture can leave any hair texture feeling dry. And ask red celtic curls about coarse hair she's a fair skinned redhead with coarse hair I believe. I've got to try to find the website I saw once
with a great descriptor of fine vs coarse.
ETA - the protein in sn coconut is a mild one.

I pulled out my old Catwalk Oatmeal and Honey conditioner and used it as a leave in. I had almost no frizz today (that is until the pool. lol). Its full of protein but it moisturizes soooo well. I really wish they hadn't discontinued it. I think i'm going to buy another bottle off of amazon.

My hair gets a dent when I put it behind my ears or in a ponytail all day. Loose pineappling overnight doesn't leave a dent. My ponytail is thick. I can only wrap a fresh elastic twice or its too tight.
Thanks for the info on the SN protein. I thought I would try it out. It was only $1.50. As for the HETT I noticed it has dimethicone in it?? I just noticed this when I got home
