Default Moisture/protein balance +OC'D

It seems that at the moment I feel that I've reached the perfect moisture/protein balance my hair is OC'd or I am suffering from build up. It drives me crazy!

How do you reach a good moisture balance without the build up?
I have low porosity hair with some protein sensitivity (so PT's are a no go).

I'm probably not the one to advise on this (since my hair can't get enough protein), but I know some people who are protein sensitive will use products that are more moisturizing but have protein somewhat low on the ingredients list. Also, I'm thinking maybe once you start to get that OC feeling, maybe try using a clarifying shampoo? That last idea is just a guess so hopefully others will chime in with ideas.

I'm new to this too and still experimenting. I have found that I get the best results by tweeking my rountine... depending on how my hair feels any given day. My hair is 2a fine/medium texture and can get easily OC'd. When that happens I use a clarifying shampoo and a lighter weight moisturizing conditioner.
Being a 2a I just can't do the co wash very often...or my hair is limp and any wave I do have is gone. I'm sure there are 2a's on the board who can co wash more often.
I think the CG method is all about finding what works for you.
Experiment...experiment...experiment!
I have had a few weird hair days when I tried something that didn't work for me but I don't sweat it. I just do something different the next day!

Thanks for your replies so far. I use some protein containing products, like condish a/o styler. Silk protein I am okay with (with moderation). In winter I can co-wash more often I guess and low-poo once in the 3-4 weeks.
In summer I need more frequent low-poo washes, I guess. Once in 2 weeks maybe..
