Default detangling dry or wet

I really am interested in this topic and read an article that for some curlies/wavies, detangling before shower on dry hair or spritz/dampen hair is better, because less stretch and less water weight on the hair. Just wondering what you fellow 2's think of this/ I want to try it because I have lots of breakage way high up on my hair shaft, giving me broken shedded hairs with root bulbs but they're short, broken, stretched. Maybe they're so wet, they're stretching and breaking and not handling that. Plus, I wonder for those of you who do detangle in the shower, is it after/during using warm water or cold water, because warm water can make hair follicles more open, thus easier for hairs to slide out of the root?? Just wondering, I"ve heard varied opinions on this!

I usually detangle wet, but I've sprayed my hair down with watered down conditioner then detangled too. The latter feels rougher on my hair so I stick to wet detangling. Of course, this depends on how tangled your hair gets. My theory is the more tangled the hair the wetter/more covered in conditioner it should be.

As far as water temp.... I really don't think it matters that much. Yeah, your hair shaft might "open up" a bit (thus making it harder to detangle) but I don't think it's in a significant amount.

My hair gets tangled pretty easily, so I always detangle wet with plenty of conditioner in my hair.

i like to brush my hair before getting in the shower if i have a lot of product in. helps break it up in my opinion. Also, I just enjoy giggling at my GIANT hair.
aloha13 and kellyrae like this.

Good point Kstan. At least it gives us a chance to see our big hair again and remember our times!! I'm just hoping it's not making me lose my curl. I did a detox on Saturday (on all my hair) and that's when I also started combing through dry. I hope it's the detox and not the combing that made my curl disappear.
