Second Day Hair
I have been CG for about a week and a half. I am getting much better at my "wash" day routine. However, I am having a heck of a time getting wearable second day hair! I have tried:
-dry plopping (several different ways)
-Satin sleep cap (w/ and w/o pineappling)
- Pineappling alone
The results are either a flat top, weirdly shaped curls (that look bent), fluffy hair that is unmanageable, or a combination of all of these. It literally looks like my hair is mad at me.
In the AM, I have tried scrunching with a curl refresher, scrunching with water, dampening it and diffusing...so frustrated! I have been a lot more unsuccessful than successful. I am curious what works best for some of you. My hair is shoulder length (when dry) with long layers. Thanks for any tips. My life would be so much easier of I could get decent second and (maybe?) third day hair.

My hair is a little past shoulder length with long layers. I have been able to achieve second and third day hair lately by: wearing my hair wavy and down on days I cleanse; leaving my hair down when I sleep (I have a jersey pillowcase, fyi); spritzing it with water in the mornings; then adding my usual products, but only about 1/3 to 1/2 of the amount; and scrunching bunches. (If you aren't super prone to frizz I would definitely suggest buying the hotheads hand dry hair gloves.) I don't diffuse. I also cannot brush my hair, except to get out the tangles that appear at my nape, or else it doesn't clump correctly. If it doesn't look like it is working, sometimes just doing a half ponytail or putting what used to be my bangs back in barrettes makes a world of difference.
It took me a long time to find a routine that works for second and third day hair (hopefully it still works in the winter), but it was well worth it, so keep trying. Good luck!

Thanks!
Those gloves look neat...I might have to pick up a pair. I am going to try sleeping on it tonight. I don't have any satin pillowcases, so I am glad to hear it can work if you don't have them.

You might need more than a week and a half of CG for your curl pattern to really come out on second day hair. Especially if you've just stopped straightening your hair.
That was my experience anyway. For second day hair, I've had great luck with the pineapple. When I take it out, I spritz my hair lightly with water and let that soak in. I might spritz again and really gently scrunch with a light coat of conditioner on my hands.
I still get frizz, but my whurls are pretty well defined. The less I touch it and the less product I put in it, the better it looks.

2nd day hair is my goal! I might have to try those gloves. Is there any downside to them - do they cause more frizz? How did you find out about them?

I wasn't having any success until I tried the washcloth method. That seems to work brilliantly for me and I got 3rd day hair that was clumped and spirally.
I wet the washcloth, scrunch the length, add in conditioner and gel and scrunch, then scrunch with microfiber, let dry, and then SOTC. Worked great

What kind of towel do you use, Brave?
cmimo, you are probably right. I am in my third week now. Hopefully things will start improving even more.

microfiber towel, and just a normal washcloth.
Like you I haven't been pure CG for long at all, and prior to this my second day hair was terrifying and way too dry.

Brave, i love your hair. You look like a red headed me.
I'm about 6-7 weeks in now. My second day hair just looks lifeless.

Has anyone given salt-water spray a go for 2nd day hair?
I've only recently started a modified CG, but I used to use sea salt, water, couple drops of tea tree oil, and a good drop of conditioner in a spray bottle and it really enhances my curls!
It IS a bit drying, however. I'd recommend using a bit of leave-in conditioner as well

I noticed that too. Also that it seemed to leave a film on my hair. And I barely used any
