Default New to CG and need HELPPPP!!

Hey all! I've been browsing through the wealth of info on this site and have tried several different techniques and products, but I am still stumped and not happy with my hair at all.

I believe I have 2C hair. It is med to coarse depending on what part of my head. It has a large curl overall. My hair underneath has almost no curl to it and is usually pretty dry. The hair at the crown of my head is almost a 3B-C dispersed in with the normal 2C. Additionally, my hair around my face is straighter, not as coarse, and less dense. My hair has so many personalities, and I cannot decide if it is porous or not. It frizzes easily in humidity, takes color well, does not straighten easily.

I've been using Suave Naturals Coconut for a co-wash, SYTC and Tresemme Naturals as a detangler, Tresemme as a leave in. I tried using aloe vera gel and have had mixed results with that. it seems to help the more normal curls, but the crazier curls at the crown just frizz away from the other curls. I've used Aussie Set me Up, Tresemme Curls Mousse, Herbal essences totally twisted. I usually use hairspray as well, I'd rather scrunch out crunch than deal with fluff.

NOTHING is working. My hair looks worse than ever in my opinion. I don't know how to get my hair to form a good curl without separating out into stringy curls. (I tried the supersoaker method). The hair at the crown of my head with the mixture of looser curls and the tight, coarse curls is what I am constantly battling.

How do I find out the porosity of my hair? Is the float test reliable? My hair floats, but it also squeaks when I run it between my fingers.

Any tips or help would be so appreciated!

Stylers never worked for me, moisture is what makes my waves look nice. It does take a week or two of CG to start seeing the results though. Also, build up has always been a big issue for my fine hair, so I alternate with a low-poo. My hair never looked good with an overly complicated routine, just washing, conditioning, and using a leave in is what works for me. Also, my hair is extremely picky with co-washing conditioners and leave ins. I hated suave and tresemme, but jessicurl aloeba is amazing. I use it as a light leave in too, or if I need more moisture, I use too shea.

My products:
Jessicurl Aloeba (used as co-wash, light leave in, and RO)
Jessicurl Too Shea (used as DC, heavier leave in, and RO)
MopTop Gentle shampoo

I switch it up between co-washing and low-pooing

keeping it simple

If your hair is coarse or med-coarse in texture you might want to try a different co-wash because Suave Coconut has protein, which coarser hair tends to not like. My favorite protein free co-wash is VO5 Vanilla Mint Tea. I also second the idea of rotating in a low-poo as you adjust to sulfate free cleansing.

Default Still Confused...

I know this whole CG routine is going to pay off, but it is so frustrating trying to figure it out! I feel like I have had a couple months of terrible hair days trying to figure out what works and doesnt for me.

So, I think that I am sensitive to protein. The hair that is curlier naturally seems to get stiff and crazy frizzy when I use something with protein in it.
How do I get the protein out of my hair?

Also, I usually plop for a while. It gives my curls good lift and gets excess water out, but I think the result of plopping overall is that it dries out the ends of my hair. I just had about 3 in cut off, so that should't be the problem.

Today I washed with Tresemme Naturals Shampoo. It has sulfates, but I was trying to cleanse anything lurking in my hair. Rinse-out Tresemme Naturals orange, leave-in tresemme naturals, I put a dime-size amount of knot today in and then aussie instant freeze. Looked great out of the plop. Dried into a frizzy mess. What am I doing wrong? My hair doesn't feel dry and looks shiny, but maybe it needs a deep treatment?

And where do you find VO5 products? Target didn't have them.

Thanks!

Walmart and Kmart have VO5 products. Do you have a Sally's beauty supply nearby? Their Great Value Products Conditioning Balm is a great DT.
