Unhappy Doing something wrong? Drab hair?

I'm new and have been trying everything possible to get my hair to look decent with this method. I know I have fabulous looking curls, but I can't manage to find them - or to get them to come out. For a while, I was using a diffuser to get some curls going, but since I have dry skin, the diffuser was drying out my scalp even more and making it itch. If I don't use a diffuser then it seems that putting in gel weighs down my hair and makes it look flat, I've even tried watered down gel, but then my hair gets frizz or if I do manage to get it to look decent, it doesn't look good for very long. - Any ideas/tips?

At first I felt like I was doing "everything". Then I added leave-in conditioner, and protein treatments and got better results. It sounds like you could use more moisturizing. Have you tried "conditioner only styling"? I have been doing it lately and it has been working for me.

How do you apply your gel? What products are you using?
