I'd like to see if anyone washes their hair at night and if you do, what are some pointers for keeping it soft and fresh while you sleep on it? I'm exhausting myself getting up at 5am each day just to wash my hair before I have to wake my kids. I can't get 2nd day hair, ever, it's just a frizzy tangled mess. I'd like to wash it and be able to sleep in it without it getting messy. I've tried plopping overnight before (my poor husband, this is very unattractive lol) and it worked ok but was hard to style in the morning causing me to mess with it a lot and therefore causing massive frizz . I find my hair still gets extremely dry by the time the next morning comes and i'm having to rewash and condition again for it to be nice.
2(I have no idea what pattern), low porosity, mix of medium and coarse, dense

*Have just discovered the amazingness that is the "Spritz and Condish" routine*

Shampoo: SM Moisture Retention Shampoo
Co-wash: VO5 Vanilla Mint Tea Clarifying Conditioner
RO: GVP CB, Garnier Triple Nutrition
LI : Whatever conditioner I used + EVOO or Argon oil
Stylers: Organix Moroccan Curling Perfection Defining Creme, EcoStyler Gel (krystal)
I always take a shower at night. My mom set a routine when I was little and I guess it stuck, lol! After dinner, DS takes a shower while I load the dishwasher and catch up on some news. Then I hop into the shower around 7 - 8 p.m. depending.

After I get out of the shower and do my routine (apply, scrunch, apply, scrunch, etc.) I plop until DS is in bed, around 9 p.m. Then I blow-dry until I am about 75 - 80% dry. That usually takes 30 - 45 minutes. Then I just chill out until bed, around 11 p.m. - 12 a.m.

I just learned the "pineapple" and I invested in a satin sleep cap. It still looks ridiculous to me. Better than wearing a plop all night, though. (And way less uncomfortable!) Still, when I wake up in the morning, my hair is ready to go. Even the crunch is gone from sleeping in the cap. HTH!!

ETA: I also made my own spritz using 2/3 C distilled water, 1/3 C gel, 5 drops coconut oil and 3 drops of sweet almond oil. This helps me in the morning if I have a slight halo or need to refresh my curls slightly.

Did you have to buy the satin cap online or can I get one in a store? Thanks for the recipe for the refresher spray too!

You are welcome for the recipe! I hope it works for you!!

Oh, and I got my cap at Sally's Beauty Supply for under $4. It's PINK!! There are many colors and style to choose from. If (When) I get another one, I may try the wrap style over the "shower cap" one. I have a big head and I had to stretch out the band so it would fit my noggin.

I used to use a cap bit it always slipped off. So now I plop. It was uncomfortable at first, but what I do is twist it around so that the bulky side is at the front and the back side is flat. I think it really helped.

Night wash is so uncomfortable. Sometimes you can get away with it but not if you really need to sleep well. Trying to balance your neck so the wet hair doesn't soak your pillow and stuff.

The key is to add lots and lots more conditioner if letting it soak overnight. Then in morning just spray it a little with water to maneuver and style.

There's some trick to the trade lol but a couple of things

1. If you're just starting out then you might experience stringy hair syndrome but if stick to a no cone regimen then that will eventually go away.

2. Yes use more conditioner but also make sure to not sleep on the bulk of your hair.

3. Try to style it as close as possible to how you will wear it so that in the morning you don't have to touch it as much which will cause frizz.

4. In the morning dampen and rub conditioner on your hands and lightly mist your hair with water if you need to adjust for restyling.

I'll tell you what I do, which I don't think anyone else does that I've seen so far, but it's because night washing/styling didn't work for me and I still cannot get 2nd day hair, if I'm lucky enough to get good 1st day hair to begin with. Spritzing anything on my hair to refresh does not work for me, just gives me fuzz. I have to have it soaking wet and style it daily.

I like to take long showers and I just do not have time to get up in the morning, get 2 kids ready and myself if I take a shower too. So I shower at night, low poo, conditioner, whatever. Then I let it air dry naked. Then I go to bed with naked hair. It's not pretty in the morning, but it's clean and I'm clean and I'm not fretting over if my style is getting messed up while I'm sleeping.. And since there's no product, all I have to do in the morning is stick my head in the shower and get it wet. I have a detachable shower head that I can bring down to my hair which makes it easy. I do everything upside down. I get it soaking wet, and then I do my LI and styler, scrunch, plop while I get dressed, and diffuse.

It cuts my morning routine in half at least because I'm not having to take a whole shower, just do my hair.

fine, thin, normal/(low?) porosity. Mod-CG. Usually I can't co-wash more than 1x a week, & sometimes I have to use T-Gel in rotation due to scalp issues.

Poo: Giovanni 50:50
RO:TN, Nexxus Youth Renewal, Alba Coconut
LI: KCKT
PT: gelatin PT, ION EC
Stylers: Giovanni mousse, TIGI Curls Rock amplifier (a-cone), Curls Rock Strong Hold Mousse
Gels: SCC spray gel
