Default any wavies color their hair?

I want either highlights or maybe ombre hair to add some dimension.

I have pretty healthy hair, no split ends, ect. Will doing this mess up my curl pattern? I worked hard to bring out my curl pattern and I am finally a solid 2b, sometimes 2c.

What tips can you give me for before and after for minimizing damage?

Thanks!

When I colored my hair it really did mess up my curl pattern Especially highlights, they turned my 2b/c/3a hair into 2a

IME, it depends on what you do, what products you use and your hair properties.

There's a bunch of threads on the topic here: Coloring your hair - CurlTalk

I checked out the coloring forum, but not finding a lot about results on wavies.

I think I am going to try it. I am going to sombre just the ends instead of highlights, so if it screws up the curl it won't be as long to grow out.

I am going to PT this week to prepare, and will do major DT and PT afterward. I got the ammonia free bleach and 10 and 20 developer. I am going for subtle so it won't be in long. The very tips will be processed the most, so least likely to mess up the curl pattern.

Wish me luck!

I've been getting mine highlighted lately, and my stylist concentrates most of that on my canopy/top layer--its definitely less curly/wavy than the hair underneath, but the canopy tends to be more fried anyway, so its hard for me to say if its because of the coloring or not (I would guess it doesn't help, though!)

I've been using permanent dye on and off for years with no effect on my curl pattern. My hair gets a bit more porous and dry, but that's to be expected.
