Default question about re:coil

Hi there

I have a question about AG Re:coil. I've been using it since a couple of days, I bought it for a couple of dollars on a dutch website (from a store who sells hair products from salons that closed). Since it was supercheap I decided to try it after all the great reviews I've read :laughing 6:

I've been noticing that when I put it in my hair, my hair takes a lot more time to dry! My hair still isn't complety dry after 1,5 hour. I put it the recoil after I put the LI in my hair, then I scrunch with a special towel, then I scrunch in the recoil (my hair is damp) and then BHRG.

Is there some other way to use the Re:coil? I noticed if gave me more waves but also a bit stringy hair, and only at the end of my hair I have some clumps.
I have medium/high porosity hair (since a few weeks a started with a weekly gelatin PT), high density hair and medium width hair.

I hope you can help me! Thanks

I hope someone else chimes in. I got the same results with recoil. First time use i had awesome hair, but then my hair became stringy also, and not clumping at ALL. I have read posts about the mag sulfate in this product, but not sure if the stringy hair is reaction from it???

I returned my Re:Coil due to the Mag Sulf in it, and I also realised it has protein (which I can't hack) so it dried my hair out like craaaaazy! Also, whenever I touched my hair, it turned into greasy frizz. And my hair is never greasy! It just made may hair look dirty after the first three or four uses...

I am currently using Catwalk Curlesque Curl Amplifier, which works like the Re:coil - very defined beachy wavy/curly S's - but leaves hair looking shiny and silky after doing a good SOTC. However, it does contain 'cones and chemicals, so if you are looking for a more natural result or doing CGM, you might not love this product. When I use it with the TiGi Foxy Curls curl definer spray, though, it works really nicely and doesn't get overly crunchy...and it takes the average/normal time to dry. Didn't weigh my fine hair down, either.

I hope this helps to give you another option If I find something better, I will come back and update! So far these have been the best curl maximization products for me, though.

I use the Re:Coil and like it a lot, it seems to help my hair to curl up and frizz less. I think the key is to use very little. So - I have a lot of hair, and use probably 5tablespoons or more of gel when styling BUT only 1T or less of Re:Coil. Also - I live in a humid climate - I don't know if it works where the air is dry.

I do it like this:

When hair is very very wet, bend over and comb it out. Put a squirt of Recoil in your hands and rub it all over them like lotion, then comb your hands through your hair to distribute it. Then scrunch it up, removing some of the water and distributing the curl creme all through the hair. Let this set up for a couple of minutes, then scrunch in gel. Et voila.

Thanks robin...I usually just scrunch it in my hair soaking wet. So I'll try again 2nite, by coating the hair shaft. Do you use a little LI under it?

If I put leave-in, I put it over the ReCoil not under, actually. The 'base layer' being the ReCoil seems to work best for me, then if needed a little conditioner to sort of seal it in.

But usually my hair just doesn't get dried out anymore so haven't been using leave in. Yay Curl Rehab! Using this conditioner only about once a month in the summer and slightly more often in the winter puts enough moisture in to last. (along with the regular routine of low-poo and Sally Conditioning Balm) I do have low porosity hair - it took awhile to get really conditioned, but having done so it just seems to stay that way unless I really beat up on it.

I sort of found a way to make the re:coil work sort of great

First of all, the reason why my hair took way too long to dry was that my moisturize/protein balance was way bad So I did two DT's this week and my hair looks much better. I also found that sealing with an hairoil (argan oil is really a HG for me but right now I'm using weleda hair oil which is also great and really nice for dry scalp!)

when I washed my hair this morning, I put in a few drops of hairoil, then LI and after that again a few drops of oil. Then a little amount of re:coil, say 1/4 teaspoon, I distributed it in two hands and then applied it to my hair. I found that a little goes a long way After that my gel from local drugstore ( I found that the combination between BHRG and recoil is way too heavy for my hair).
After that I plopped. I don't have much scrunch but still enough.

I still don't know if my hair really likes re:coil. I have more curly hair but on top a bit more stringy. I think I must find another routine for the sealing perhaps.

I really love the smell of the re:coil, sort of vanillia

Thanks Robin...I tried re:coil as you stated by raking it in, then i raked in a couple pumps of CJ PPgel, did a modified SSM and then scrunched in arcangel. My hair was GREAT!!! I have the best 3rd day hair yet!!! I just lightly refreshed my ends with CCCCL and applied a little of CIAB on my canopy frizz. LOVING it!!!
I think the CJ PPgel is light enough that it didnt pull my waves out, but I love that is has no glycerin or protein in it. And i love the arcangel b/c it seems to make my curls "pop" and the gelcast it creates keeps my curls defined.

Will try again tomorrow and see if I get the same results....fingers crossed

Yay! Yes, Re:Coil plus ArcAngell is my go-to combination. I like the ArcAngel because it's medium hold so I can use enough to get it to distribute to all the hair, and yes for me it also seems to encourage curl.

The pattern pusha I could not use at all - my hair isn't the kind that can be 'molded' like that - it can only be encouraged to do what it does, and held there. If I want it to do something else, it has to be set on rollers and dried to a crisp and then it ends up just going straight because it fights the set.

But just like you, CCCC or CCCCL are the things I can put a dab on dry hair without my hair freaking out. CCCC is one of the things I'll put over or instead of the Re:Coil if hair is needing a little more TLC, too. Or if I just really want to smell it But not usually.
