Default Don't know where to start

Hello! I am finally ready to commit to the cg method. I am super lost and need help!!!

Hair Type: 2a&b
medium to high density
fine to medium width
long
porosity, still not sure

Here's my problem, I used to live in South Carolina and I had beautiful waves and even some ringlets. Ever since moving to the desert, I have very little texture.

I have no idea where to start as far as products.

Also, what is sealing??

Thanks!!!

I live in the dessert too. I used to live back east and never had to worry about my curls. I got so frustrated with my limp hair here I went online and started researching. That's how I ended up at this site. I read a lot of the articles and threads here to help me get started.

I'd start with going sulfate free and adding moisture with conditioning hair and using leave in conditioners. Use products that are "cone" free and have minimal chemicals. I've had a lot of luck with deva no poo & conditioner. Not so much luck with their styling products. I use "beautiful curls" leave in which u can get at whole foods.

I hope this helps a bit. Don't get discouraged when u first go cg. My hair got greasy looking and my scalp got itchy. But they were adjusting and that resolved within a few weeks.

Thanks for the suggestions!! So what other styling products do you use other than the leave in?

Fine hair and/or damaged hair tends to like protein treatments. There's a lot of helpful info on this page, including a homemade protein recipe:
Pedaheh's Hair Blog

Sealing is the process of "trapping" the moisture in your hair. I'm actually investigating it myself. Seems like a lot of people use oils to seal. I plan on trying sealing right after putting in my leave-in conditioner and before my gel. Try searching for "sealing." There have been pretty many treads about it.

You may also want to look into a co-wash, a low poo, and a (hard hold) gel.

Right now, I use l'oreal everstyle curl defining gel. So far I like this one the best because a) it holds my curls for days and b) it's inexpensive & I can get it at target. I haven't tried any online products yet.

I put in on in the shower( water is off) after the leave in, with my head flipped over and scrunch it in in an upward motion from the roots up.
It will dry crunchy and wet looking. But I go in after it is dry and scrunch out the crunch then it looks good.
