no life...

Ok. So I have figured out plopping for the most part. I believe I'm a 2a. My hair is fine but abundant. It is just past my shoulders, no bangs, long layers.

My question is this: I used to blowdry my hair, but now with these new curls I have discovered I want to stray away from the blowdryer as I don't own a diffuser yet. So I plop and scrunch.

When I let my hair airdry, although it gets curly, it just is... that's it. If I try to get some body in it, then I'm afraid I will frizz it out. I don't want to hit it with the curling iron because that will just straighten out these delicate curls I have.

But I can't just have my hair lifeless, but curly. what do I do now?

I don't know how to style it.
Are you using any products? Gel, mousse, creams? Sounds like you could use a gel and maybe diffuse to give you some hold. The diffusing could be in addition to, or in place of, the plopping. So, if you're not using any gel, that'd be my first suggestion .

If you are using products, share what you're using and what your product application/routine is so we can help you get them curls out there!

I am using a styling lotion by Nexxus. As well as shampoo and conditioner by Nexxus.

Anyway, I wash, condition, and when I get out of the shower I spray in a super light leave in conditioner, apply the styling lotion, plop for about 20 minutes while I tinker around with my face and get dressed, then let it down to dry. I also scrunch it while it is drying.

I have lots of curls later, but around my face everything just hangs. Tonight, I used the curling iron on just the front section to lift it out of my face and that helped. I spiraled my hair around the iron. I really only have trouble with around my face. I don't want it to straighten or frizz, as it does, because when it hangs in my eyes I tend to mess with it too much.

Usually, when I dry it and don't want the curl, I "bend the roots" at my face so my hair dries out of my face. But I can't do that when it air dries and my hair seems to want to lay forward moreso than back. Can I clip it back somehow while it dries for the same affect?

It only takes about 45 minutes for my hair to dry completely when it air-dries.

Sorry this is long...
Have you considered using a conditioner to replace the shampoo (co-washing)? It might help your curls to come out even more.

I would try one of the gels I mentioned to see if you can get more hold. I can never plop because the top of my hair ends up all laying forward (I have shorter layers in front). You can use duckbill clips to clip your hair at the roots and that should help them to dry away from your face.

I'd give gel a try and also diffusing since it doesn't take your hair long to dry and see how that works.

Don't worry about posts being too long .. we love to try to help !

Thank you!

I went today and got a hair cut. Added some more layers and some framing around my face. I also bought a diffuser.

I'm going to try some gel and keep messing with it.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll try to find a way to post before after pics once I get it all worked out.

Waiting for pics !

Those pics were taken today. Conditioner only, plopped for about 10 minutes, air-dried/diffused, no product except spray conditioner.
I'd give plopping a try since your hair is so long. You may want to try one of the Herbal Essence gels (Totally Twisted, Set Me Up, or Body Envy) or maybe even Garner Fructis Curl-n-Shine Conditioning Leave-in Cream as a styler.

You can apply your products to wet hair, plop for a little bit (how long is something that is an individual thing according to the hair ) and them maybe add a wee bit more product before diffusing.

There's so many experiments to try and it takes alot of playing around to find what brings out your hair's curls.

Keep us informed .

I forgot to mention the plopping. I plop it for about 5-10 minutes, then let it air dry, then diffuse.

Sorry.

The curls are much more so than they were before.

Here's a before, but it's only the front.

I'm in the middle:

Oops, my bad .. I saw in your first post you plopped !

Have you tried the diffuser yet? Diffusing is okay for your hair - just keep it on the lower settings.

I just thought of something - have you seen Jessicurl's videos? She has great videos of applying products, plopping and diffusing. Visit her site here.
