Can anyone help me?

Okay, so first off I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section It's been a while since I've posted anything on here.

So I really need some advice about my hair. In my profile picture (taken over a year ago), it looked like my hair was either 3a or 2c, not sure. But now, my hair is past my shoulder blades and my hair looks like a 2b type now. So I'm wondering if the longer your hair gets, the more curl it loses? I also know that your hair can lose/gain curl over time depending on your hair's DNA or something. It's been two years since my last haircut and it's just been growing out since then. I really wanted it long, around the middle of my back. But now I can't STAND it!

I'd really like to cut it, but I'm afraid to lose the waves I have now. If I cut my hair to about my shoulders (maybe a little longer), I want my hair to still have the waves it has, not really tight curls like a perm. Also, I was thinking about getting bangs, but I'm also afraid that the shorter my hair is, the more curly ringlets I'm going to get and it'll just look weird.

So can anyone help me out here? Is it true that the shorter your hair is, the curlier it gets? I really hope not because I REALLY want to cut my hair. The bangs are just an option. If it matters, my hair is also very thin. I don't know how much of an impact that makes on how curly your hair is, but I know the shorter my hair is, the thicker it looks. Please help!
The longer it is, the more weight is hanging on the curl, so usually when it is cut shorter there is less weight and the curl can spring up more since it is lighter

It also depends on how loose or tight your curl pattern is. If you have a looser curl pattern, you will need a certain amount of length before you will see the complete curl. This is why wavies and even some 3a curlies appear to have straight roots. If you cut hair with a looser curl pattern too short, it may actually appear straight; the curls will show up more when it grows out some, and then as it gets past a certain point, the weight of the hair may start to pull out the curl again. You may also have different types of curl patterns on one head of hair, so different sections may have more or less curl at different lengths. I have combination 2c/3a hair - I cut my hair very short once (longer than a pixie, but shorter than a traditional bob) and the sections with looser curl looked almost straight, with very little wave, while the curlier sections formed tight little ringlets. Now my hair is about BSL and the sections that were almost straight now have enough length to curl more and appear curlier, while the curlier section has more weight and is less ringlet-y. My guess is that if you keep your length at or below the shoulders, you will still have enough length to see your complete curl pattern, and may even see your hair curl up a little more. As far as bangs, it just depends on how curly that section of your hair is. You may be able to do bangs, but you may have to cut them a little longer to work with your wave/curl pattern (or decide if you want to straighten them).

My favorite brands are Kinky Curly, As I am, Curly Kinks, Curl Junkie, and Darcy's Botanicals. Also love sealing with oils (loving argan oil right now) and styling with jelly products (KCCC is my current favorite). Mostly trying to keep it simple!

My hair gets curvier the longer it gets, I have very big ringlets, like imagine an1.5" curling iron making ringlets. Except they get smashed because the weight. As I grow it, it's like there's more room to curl up.

The longer my hair gets, the wavier it gets and the ends form ringlets. If my hair is short, it is nearly straight!
I just cut 4-5 inches off around my hair. It was BSL. Now I have much better looking curls! I am amazed at how much curvier it got. It was the weight pulling it out.

To the OP, it sounds like in your case your hair will probably get a little curlier if you cut it.... unless you think your curl pattern actually changed in the last few years or months...sometimes this happens.

I'm 2b and there's a bell curve of curliness that happens depending on length of my hair. Before, when my hair was short it was almost straight, shoulder length to midback is probably the waviest/curliest. Any any longer and the wave becomes lazy. But my hair never has the curl potential that yours does so I think yours would probably be curlier if cut shorter.

If thin is really the issue that is bothering you remember that shorter hair looks fuller. If on you it will get curlier as well that may be an advantage as it will add even more body.

Post pics of the changes if you decide to make any!
Yes, the shorter your hair the curlier it will be. When it's longer the weight of it will drag the curls down and they will become waves. I've found that when my hair was in a bob it was very springy, almost afro-y and hard to manage, but I've been growing it for several years and now it's loose and wavy curly.
