Help with hair type and products

Hi
I am new to this site and would love help figuring out what type of hair I have? I have had curl all my life but for the past 15 years have straightened by blow dryer and straightener. I would love to start wearing it curly again but can not seem to keep good curl. When it is wet it has good curl but then once it dries it gets really frizzy and puffy:( Unless i put a lot of gel in it but then it is really crunchy. I need advice on what products people like the most, please. I currently co wash with Tresseme natural conditioner, then scrunch with shea moisture smoothing cream and KCCC. Although I think the smoothing cream can make it weighed down. Anyway, I can't figure out what hair type I am so I posted this in type 2 but if you think I am more a 3a let me know. Thanks so much in advice!!

I would say definitely closer to 3a based on the amount of root curl. 3a hair generally needs a good amount of length to really see the full ringlet pattern. The thing to keep in mind though is that curl pattern isn't really all that important. Have you determined your hair's properties (texture, porosity, etc) yet? Properties are what will help you find the best products to make your curls look their best. Livecurlylivefree.com has a ton of info for figuring out hair properties.
