Should hair be soaking wet with most products?

I never knew about applying gel to soaking wet, dripping hair until I had my curly cut and the stylist taught me this. What I am confused about, is is that particular to Deva products, or should most curl products be applied this way? For example, those who use the Ouidad or BioSilk Rock Hard products, do you apply those to soaking wet hair? What about creams? And do creams come after gel?

Thanks for all the help! (New to my wavy hair obviously... :) )

I'm new to all this too, but what I have come across is that it depends on the product. There are products, I think more towards "jelly" types that indicate if you want to elongated the curl, apply to soaking wet hair. and if you want shrinkage the scrunched into wet hair...so I think it really depends . on the product you are using and the results you want... as far as order of products I believe is LI, then curl enhancer/cream then gel. I would think creams before gels...but hopefully someone with more info will chime in...

Finding out what works best for you is a lot of trial and error. I apply products to soaking wet hair. Made a mistake this week and wrapped my hair in my Curlease towel (to dress and apply make up) before applying my jelly product. I didn't rewet--and my hair came out with a lot more frizz then usual.

The order I use is leave in, curl enhancer and jelly product. That's not to say that the leave in and jelly product aren't curl enhancing--it's just a matter of semantics.

It really depends on your hair. For me, when applying product to soaking wet hair, the product doesn't actually absorb into the hair very well. (Hair is full of water, leaving no room for product). I apply my leave in, which is actually a rinse out conditioner, when my hair is soaking wet because I don't want that much leave in to stay in my hair.

I only use leave-in and gel (in that order). As if you didn't have enough choices and things to try, you can also mix your products together in your hands and apply them.

Good luck and have fun experimenting. :)

I apply my curl enhancer to soaking wet hair to get the best waves and clumps. If it's not really wet, it doesn't wave very well and feels weird when drying.

But experiment! What one person likes, another may not like. And I wouldn't apply straight BRHG to my hair! I always mix it with another gel.

I think it depends on what look you are going for. I have 2c on my canopy and sides, and 3a under all of that. If I put stuff in SOAKING wet, it weighs everything down and makes everything a LOT straighter, more wavy than curly. I also agree that applying wet means my hair doesnt absorb any product, as the water dries off, it looks like I didn't even put anything on. So, I scrunch moisture out after I shower. I add leave in first, then scrunch water out, apply curling gel/creme (SM smoothie or KCCC) and then FSG or KCSS.

For me, yes, absolutely - whatever brand/type product(s) I'm using. Part of the reason I always hate my hair when anyone else tries to "do" it is that they always apply product to just damp hair, and then it won't do anything at all - and what it does do isn't good, LOL! Mine needs product applied quickly right out of the shower.

For me it depends on what look I want. If I put the products in soaking wet hair, I get smoother shinier ringlets, like Shirley temple curls. Product in dry or rewet hair has smaller clumps. You can see the difference in this picture.

May I ask what leave in , curl enhancer an jelly you use?

I rotate products. Although I wet, use a rinse out and style every day, I seldom use any one product more then once in five days, it that. Most of my favorites are in my signature.

I recently started applying my products to soaking wet hair and oh the headaches I would have saved myself if I had started doing this a long time ago..

After cowashing, I detangle with my fav RO condish, then I will rinse that out and apply KCKT on drenched hair from ends to roots. Then I will plop for 20 mins while I get ready for my day and then I'll seal with EVOO and then scrunch in some mousse.

I get very defined, frizzless curls with this method. (:

I don't apply products to soaking wet hair because I feel it gets weighed down or is just ineffective, but my hair is definitely still pretty wet when I apply products. The only thing I apply in soaking wet hair is leave in, then I give it a rub down with an old t-shirt, comb through it, and apply the rest of my products.

I apply all my products to soaking wet hair. Then plop for 5 mins

I do 4 layers of product in my hair. My leave-in goes on soaked hair and I scrunch out water until it's just wet. Then I scrunch in LOOB, then a mix of leave-in and curl cream, it's still wet but not soaking by this time. Plop for at least 30 minutes (or if overnight I'll put a plastic cap over it), then scrunch in BRHG with wet hands and plop for at least another 30 if not an hour or more.
