Default Struggling with a flat back of my head

So I've only been doing this for 3 days now, but the front of my hair has bounced back to very wavy/curly with ease. However, the back of my head, from just behind my ears back, is staying fairly flat. I wouldn't say straight, but nothing like the rest of my hair. Does any one have suggestions? I'm wondering if its because that's the heaviest part, and it's being weighed down while it dries? (I air dry).

What kind of a haircut do you have? Haircuts that are all one length can tend to cause this kind of flatness problem for some people. Do you have layers?

Hmm, no I don't have layers, it's sort of all one length, just below my shoulders. Maybe I'll look into getting a proper cut in a month or so when I have the $$. I haven't had layer in ages, partly because when I did they were always really poorly done (I've had my hair treated like it's straight for as long as I can remember, but it's really not!)

Oh I definitely understand. Getting a haircut can be so traumatic when the stylist treats your curly hair like it's straight. But layers could very well be the answer to your problem! Are there any Deva salons, or Deva-trained stylists, where you live? Or if there aren't, maybe ask your stylist to cut your layers a bit longer than normal. Too short of layers will spring up excessively on curly hair and look weird. You can always go shorter, but can't go longer, as the (true) saying goes! Hope this works out for you!

There aren't any that I know of, but there are a few "curly" salons around. My hair is mostly straight at the top, which is why I guess I fear cutting it too short, since it might just be pure straight then. :S I'm only a good 4 days into CG, so I'll give it a month and then go get a cut. I think I also need a protein treatment of some kind...

WaveCity, you can also try clipping the crown while your hair air dries. you can use duck bill clips or do what I do for the crown and just get a big octopus style clip to pull the hair there up for a bit while it dries. Takes a bit of practice so you don't end up with wonky roots, but once you have it down, it works pretty well.

Mine had gotten to where it was flat and almost straight in back like that before I went modified CG. I barely had it layered at the time. As soon as I cut out 'cones, I saw an immediate improvement. Got it layered a bit more, that helped even more.

As I continued using no 'cones or sulfates and conditioning better and more consistently, it continued to improve. And the piece de resistance was when I finally quit ignoring all the comments on here about protein sensitivity and started regularly getting it back into my hair - that made the biggest difference of all aside from the layering. Almost all fine-ish hair needs it.

Re: Clipping- I was doing that, but it unfortunately is just not working for me at the moment...

Re: Protein- I just bought a conditioner with protein in it- used it for the first time today, I'm really hoping it will help. I looked at doing the gelatin treatment, but I'm not sure how well it will work for me because I don't know how long it stays liquid. I'd have to make it up before I shower, and then apply it in the middle of my routine...

I know I really do need a haircut as well- I had a "trim" about a week ago but it was just to get rid of my quite dry/destroyed ends. I've only been doing CG for a week today, so I'll try and be patient and see how it comes out in a month at least..I've had good days and bad hair days- I don't like my hair today, its definitely only curly/wavy at the front...Sigh.

Good luck - it takes some trial and error for everyone to find out what their real problems are and what works for them

Many find it helpful to watch for someone who seems to have similar hair to them and then stalk them to see what they're doing and using. That can help you weed thru all the overwhelming information and narrow things down more quickly.

It stays liquid quite awhile, I had to make it downstairs in my kitchen and then bring it upstairs and take a shower and it was fine. I stirred it a few times to make sure but I probably didn't need to.

I agree that a good cut is essential....and clipping your hair would also help...if it's difficult to clip with the duck bills, then you could try the smallest claw clips...I'm not sure how you apply your products....but scrunching upside down Will help add volume to the crowne area...and I use gloves to SOTC and try to fluff that area up...using gloves will cut down on frizzy, and allow you to put your fingers in your hair
