Curl enhancing product for fine waves
So I have been CG for several months, and would like to use more natural products for my hair. I have fine/low porosity/med density hair that can get easily weighed down. I want to use some sort of curl enhancing products, but not of “cream” consistency. I fell creams are too heavy for my fine hair and can leave me over conditioned if use frequently. I was previously using Deva foam, but am experimenting using products without polyquats in them. I did like the airiness of the foam, but did leave my hair coated and tangley after few uses. I have also tried recoil, which was amazing the very first use, but every time after has been a disaster. I am currently using KCCC for my enhancer and jelly with BRHG for hold. I like the product, but it adds another 1-2 hours of drying time to me regime I have searched the site, but really haven’t seen any other products being mentioned, that are not cream based. I have done couple heavy duty PT treatments and feel my moisture/protein balance is pretty good. So any ideas would be great...thank you again for your input

I have new growth, low porosity and fine/med texture. Easily weighed down and VERY frizzy crown, with straighter under layers

Co-wash:Suave Naturals
LI/RO/DC: CK Satin Roots, Sevi Punpkin, SCT Okra reconstructor, Aubrey GPB

Hair loves moisture protein.
Plop, then Smasters method and MUST Pixie diffuse.
My hair dose NOT like oils or polyquats

I've found that the best way to enhance my curls is to actually be pretty minimalistic with products. I'm totally with you on creams, and mousses don't seem to do much for me either. What I like to do is apply a leave in (currently Jessicurl Aloeba or Too Shea), then a curl enhancer (Jessicurl Rockin Ringlets), and finally a bit of hard hold gel (Spiral Solutions Firm Hold Gel) but I sometimes skip this step. For me, a good leave in takes over the jobs of creams and other defrizzing products, and the jelly/gel add enhancement and hold without weight.

I think you are right...I'm using too many products, which is weighing my hair down...I have been for the last week using curly kinks satin roots and coil jam with some FSG...I have been having great clumps with no added weight...Few of my coworkers actually said it looks more voluminous...I feel it's a little frizzy on day 2... But when I say it's frizzy, they deny it is...So I think you are right in having a minimalist routine....and maybe thinking of the LI as my curl enhancer...I'll have to check out the ingredient list on JC products...Thanks

I have been using a minimalist approach and been getting great soft waves with GVPCB as LI. Oh, and my wavy hair loves sulfate shampoos, currently using Garnier Fructis Smooth and Sleek shampoo (don't like the conditioner), use VO5 MM S&C as RO.

FSG . . . seriously. It's the best thing I have found for my heavy, fine hair. I add epsom salt and NPF to my batches as they really play up my natural curl pattern. FSG is awesome in that you can add whatever your hair likes best. I've tried adding oils, too, but didn't care for the results. I oil my hair separately every night.
To be fair, my hair actually loves AG:ReCoil underneath the FSG and plays better when I use them together. I know AG has a product out called Beach Bomb, which is supposed to be a very light version of ReCoil, but I haven't tried it.
If it wasn't for those polyquats, HETT mousse works well for definition and volume. It's a little too much definition for me, though.
Still, for what it is, KCCC is the best curl enhancing product I have found on the ground. I just can't justify buying KCCC at $16+ per 8 oz. when FSG works better and only costs me roughly $0.50 per 8 oz.

Aloe Vera Gel
Can aloe vera gel help enhance curls/waves? It is pretty light. I am thinking something Fruit of the Earth brand...

Yes, for some. That is a popular brand. Didn't work for me though.

What about diluted styling gel with water? I have 2a/2b waves that are dying on me D: I also need a light product because my hair gets easily weight down.

I use mousse. I'm hearing that fine haired curlies need gel instead of mousse but I like the natural look/feel of my hair with mousse. I don't get alot of curl but I'm a 2a/b so not a whole lotta curl anyway. Any other wavies agree??

My hair is easily weighed down, which sucks because I love big hair (grew up in the south - it's a requirement). I can use AG:recoil with great results IF I apply it first thing out of shower to soaking wet hair, THEN scrunch w microfiber towel. I will comb it through soaking wet hair and scrunch after. The combing disperses it through and scrunching takes out the excess and leaves just enough to activate tighter curls without weight. I use mousse on top, scrunch again, plop for 10 or 20 mins, then diffuse. I get good curls that last and hair feels soft. It's the CG approach for product application I guess, but I have to get a lot of the water out before I diffuse or my hair is flat.
There's no question that less is more in my case.
The first time I used it i just worked a pea sized drop into my hair after i taken some of the water out and i hated it. My hair was stiff and felt dirty. If it hadn't been so expensive I would never have tried it again. Lots of water during application allows the product to work for me.
But, I am on a quest to find the simplest routine that delivers the best hair. My order for CHS Rev Up! poo and spray just arrived. I will test it tomorrow. Am going to try that w curl keeper and mousse. The search for definition AND volume continues....

I also don't get a lot of curl because I'm 2a/b, and I try to get as much moisture as I can with a leave-in. It feels much more natural. I find that Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Gel gives me more curls but also has a too strong hold, a bit too crunchy for me. Other than that, I agree with the others: the less product the better. My rule of thumb is to never use more than 3 products. For some reason, after 3 products my hair does whatever it wants: frizz, no curl, greasy, etc.

+1 for the KCCC. This stuff defines my curls like nobody's business!!! I also tried flaxssed gel which has a medium hold. But it pails in comparison to the KCCC.

I haven't tried KCCC, but I did order CHS curl keeper. Haven't tried it yet. Has anyone else used it? What does it do in fine, wavy hair? It seems to be very popular for those with coarser, curly hair but I don't see much about it from wavies.

The curl keeper weighed my hair down and made it look greasy. It caused horrible build up on my daughters low porosity hair.

Hi Turq-curls. I hate to hear that. My order just arrived. My hair is all weird now as it is. I'll test it anyway. Not much is working now, but the low dews play havoc with my hair and skin this time of year anyway. I even splurged on that super expensive Wen 6/13 the other day, even though it doesn't seem to be particularly well regarded here. Got sucked into the sales pitch (sigh - I gotta stay away from the qvc channel, but home sick all week so I'm a captive audience).

I think my daughter and I are the absolute minority when it comes to CK, I suspect we just have problems with polyquats. If you did not have had issues with them before then CK should work for you.
I watched Wen on QVC and did some research and discovered the whole cg method that way. Never bought it but I'm curious
Let us know how it turns out.

I used CK twice so far and I like it. It does reduce frizz (not 100%but enough for me) and its so light on my hair that it doesn't feel weighed down at all. I have that problem a lot with most products. I have fine, low porosity hair
