Hi Wavys...

Does anyone with 2b/2c whirly wavy have any experience with shea moisture products? I have had an on again off again love affair with them - my hair has been very dry and stresses this winter so have started using them again.
Just want to see others thoughts on these products - thanx so much!

Curl Type: 2c/3a (my hair changed thanx to CG method!)
Texture: Medium
Porosity: Low
Elasticity: Low

So glad you asked! I'm a 2c/3a low porosity also & just started using SheaMoisture Raw Shea line (the yellow label) out of desperation due to protein damage (I know better than to use protein but did anyway....).
It really turned my hair around, crunchy hair is now soft again, amazing curl definition & was actually able to do a co-wash that turned out better than cleanse day.
I think this is going to be one of those products that gets better w/every use...keep ya posted.
The key was picking the Raw Shea line (no protein) and only using distilled/bottled water that is good & warm, this helps low porosity hair open enough to let the oils do their work.

Back on the CG wagon!
Hair Type: 2c/3a winter, low porosity, protein sensitive
(Cleanse w/Distilled water only)
Shampoo: Baking soda & brown sugar
Condish: Sauve Naturals green apple or aloe waterlily
Rinse: ACV
LI: Kinky Curly Knot Today
Styler: homemade flaxseed gel, topped w/KC Spiral Spritz
DT: veg. glycerin mixed w/conditioner
"Life's a garden. Dig it."
I love this line. I have dry, highly porous, protein finicky hair and it loves Shea Moisture.

Curl Enhancing Smoothie: Has silk protein and glycerin content but for some reason this never bothers me or dries my hair out. I use it as a base styler before gel or as an extra layer of leave in. It's very rich so be light with it. I also use it to refresh second and third day curls sometimes. Smells tropical and fruity.

Curl & Style Milk: Just bought this. It also contains silk protein which doesn't bother me but I'm not sure if I love it yet. It's great for smoothing down frizzies and I'm testing it out to refresh second day hair but I'm not sure if I like it more than the smoothie. Maybe I'll try it as a leave in next. It smells more like coconut than the smoothie. Sweeter, less hibiscusy smell. (I prefer the smoothie smell, but this is nice too.)

Restorative Conditioner: Super moisturizing. Contains panthenol but I don't consider that a protein. I like it as a deep treatment really but it works well as a rinse out, it just doesn't have that much slip so you really have to let it sit. Smells earthy. Sort of like mud. But not in an unpleasant way and it doesn't linger.

Moisture Retention Shampoo: Love this stuff! Also contains panthenol. Doesn't feel like shampoo at all really and does not dry out my hair. I only low poo once a week though. Not sure if I used it more often it would strip me. Smells nice. Kind of floraly.

Yucca Baobab Shampoo: This one foams more and I absolutely adore the smell. (Very floral and woodsy.) It contains vegetable protein but it's not a penetrating product (it doesn't sit in my hair for any length of time) so I'm not worried. Again, this one doesn't dry me out and I only use it once a week. Actually I switch off on these low poos so once every two weeks for either of them.

Yucca Baobab Thickening Milk: Can't do a testimonial for myself here but I got this for my friend who is a fine haired wavie and her hair instantly had body the moment she applied this stuff. It was amazing so it really does have a volumizing effect. It also made her hair very soft. I may repurchase for another fine haired curly I'm trying to convince to go CG.

Anyways, I adore Shea Moisture so far. I also want to try the yucca conditioner for myself, the curl gelly, and the curl & shine co-wash. Also there's talk of a mousse and I don't like mousses in general for myself but you had better believe if Shea Moisture is making it I'm trying it. I love their ingredients, the quality of the products, their prices, and even their packaging is very nice and aesthetically appealing to me. They're one of my HG brands and I'm so happy to have discovered them early.

ooohh, I have been wanting to try the Yucca line, my hair is so thin and fine. I wasn't sure if it would affect my wave/curls since it really isn't labeled for curly hair. Did you notice any difference in your hair - both the curl and the thickness?
2c, some straight pieces on canopy, curlier underneath. Fine, thin, unsure on porosity - sent in my sample and waiting to hear back. Products - have a bunch I am trying out, CJ, Deva, SM Yucca, TJ.
I've only tried the Smoothie and hated it. Weighed down my hair and made it limp despite only using a little and having super thick and kinky hair. I'm getting the Milk in the mail soon though!
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Repair Me, CJ Smoothing

jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC, UFD Curly Magic
gels: CJ CQ, BRHG

I had fine/low porosity hair. Started out as a winter wavy/summer 3a. I, too, find these products really "heavy," as opposed to rich--if you get my meaning. Don't like them, at all. (I've tried products from three of the lines.)

I have 2b (Caucasian)...long swavy hair..I just bought last night at Walgreens:
Curling Souffle gel and Curl and style milk ( both the pink line)

Omg!!! They smell sooooo good!
I actually used the conditioner as body lotion.
I used both this morning. Co-washed with suave naturals, conditioned with the Curl and style milk...let sit for several minutes, rinsed out completely....on soaking wet hair (that always works best for me) raked product through hair...SCRUNCHED!!! Plopped for 5 mins. Diffused. Took a little longer to dry. Very curly, crunchy....scrunched out the crunch...very pretty. Its almost 1pm and i notice its not as full. Still shiny but looks like maybe weighed down...not really sure yet. Its only day one....
I think i might purchase the Hair thickening milk now, that was suggested above. Walgreens had a sale right now. Buy one, get one 50%. The stores have limited selection, but the website Carries Alot, and you only need to order $25 for free shipping...plus they take returns in the store...Target DOESN'T!!

Update: I pineappled last night, this morning spritzed my hair with water til damp, then added some of the Curl and Style milk...scrunched....diffused.
Omg! It's the first time ever, I got Fabulously awesome 2nd day hair!!!!!
I'm so exited and hope it's not a fluke..

Also my hair is coarse (or thick stranded) and higher on the density scale so it is thick already. Nevertheless, I did see it literally volumize and thicken my friend's fine hair. It was pretty amazing. Her hair is cut into an angled bob and she applied the product on dry flat-ironed hair and it's as if the shape filled out. Her hair was hanging at the sides of her face and a moment later it had so much depth. I was very impressed. So I'm not sure about curl enhancing power. (For that I love the smoothie but it may be too rich for fine-haired curlies.) Nevertheless, the growth milk does add body to the hair. It also made her hair (which had felt producty and dry) very, very soft when I touched it. Like instantly. And we all know a well moisturized curl or wave will reveal itself better than a dry one.

i am 2b and love shea moisture habiscus. i used before KCCC and get good results.
2a/b, low porosity, medium density, coarse
I use the Raw Shea line and I love it so far! I think my hair actually likes the wash days better than cowashing when I use these products.
Fine texture
Low/ Med porosity
Med density

Wash: SM MR, GTTT
RO: SM MR, GTTT
LI: SM CSM or SM MR
Styling:AVG, KCCC, Volumax MEGA (HG), Joico Curl Definer
So I bought the Yucca/thickening shampoo, condish, and milk. I am assuming I did something wrong, my hair is lifeless, no curl, thinner looking then before and it looks greasy. I had to wear it up today. I am going to try just the shampoo and condish another time, without the milk. So bummed, so many people rave about it.

I've tried the C&S Milk and haven't yet tried it as anything but a leave-in on "straight" days. It smells great but I can tell it is a heavier product so I have to go light.

I think it will be a nice base layer. Don't know if it has any curl enhancing to it yet.

If i leave the Milk in my hair. my hair gets stringy. I must rinse out.

You definitely didn't do anything wrong. It might be that you're low porosity and the stuff isn't penetrating the way it should. Also it might be because it's so moisture rich it's weighing down you hair. Maybe you'll have to use the milk as a rinseout. I also hate it when something that works for so many other people doesn't work for me. I'm all "What the hell?" For instance, hard hold gels. I'd like to encourage a tighter curl pattern (my underlayer is more 3b and I'd want the rest of my hair to do that) but my hair just hates them. I've been trying to use Aussie Instant Freeze and on other people it's light and they can put it in dry hair even. With me even a little bit gives me crunch and makes my hair look wet and producty. I was able to use it once semi successfully and never again. I don't know what's going on there. And my hair is highly porous. It usually absorbs product.

dusalocks , I had the same problem with the hard hold gels ( BRHG) it looked wet and the crunch was horrible. When I used SM coconut/hibiscus milk or L'oreal curl creme ( have to look up the name ) under the gel my hair absorbed the gel more and the crunch was easily scrunched out. I see we have different hair properties but have you tried that combo?

My hair hates flax seed gel, everything Deva curl and Curl Keeper,
I use the raw shea line shampoo and conditioner and its been working great for my 2b/2c hair. For styling though I use aussie. The instant freeze gel and their volume mousse.

Mostly 2B with 2C elements and quite a few random 3A corkscrews in my underneath layer. Re-tested my hair porosity and it is now low. I have fairly dense, medium thick hair.

Use: Shea Moisture Raw shampoo and conditioner, co-wash w/ suave naturals coconut, aussie ausome volume mousse and Herbal essence totally twisted gel.
Thanks for the advice. I have tried the milk as a leave in. I honestly like it that way, just not as much as kinky curly knot today. (But I'm willing to try again.) So far I like the milk more as a second day refresher I think. I've also use the milk to SOTC to mixed success when it comes to that Aussie. . . stupid Aussie. I have tried Aussie over the smoothie to loosen its hold and it may help marginally but mhen76 I believe mentioned cocktailing it. Adding the smoothie to the gel, mixing in palm, and then applying it to the hair. That supposedly softens it. But then I wonder if it'd truly be a hard hold gel that might get me through a night of, say, dancing and tomfoolery. I'm going to try that too but just later this weekend (Sunday night?) when I don't have to go anywhere. I probably won't repurchase the Aussie for another personal reason but I just want to be able to make a hard hold gel work for me. Well, one that isn't the argan ecostyler which I like but which seriously dryed out my hair. I also tried the rock hard gelly early. Borrowed some from a friend. It is pretty intense and really lives up to its name.

Didn't know Aussie made a CG approve mousse, MCoons91. I'll have to pick it up for my mom. She really likes mousses and her hair has the same curl pattern as yours. Thanks.
