Combing out dry hair
I have fine, lazy waves. I like definition, but volume and a more natural look. By error one day, I combed out my dry hair after product and styling and loved the look. Smooth, soft waves. I'm probably the odd one out, but I really like it! My hair doesn't get poofy. Anyone else? I'm guessing it only works for me cuz my waves are loose and I have very fine hair.

I don't think you are the only one.
When I had to comb my dry hair because I wanted to cut layers in it ( I felt so guilty combing dry hair!) I had great volume without the poof I had before and it did not look so bad, just different. I will keep that in mind when my hair will not turn out the way I want it to as an alternative.
There is no right or wrong way , just what you like best!

I do it all the time. I thought i was the only one, as combing and brushing seem to be no no's for lots of folks. If my hair isn't working for me the second day, I comb it out and it often looks nice and full with soft waves. I also will comb it out, spritz it with something light like Botanical Booster (or my new love, Wen 6/13 refreshing mist), then loosely pile it on top of my head and cover with a plastic shower cap (a lovely image). I leave it for 10-20 min while I finish getting ready in the morning. When i pull it off i just shake it out and go. I usually like it even better than the day i wash. Even after combing, the curls seem to find themselves again. The best part is I have more volume than I do the day I wash my hair. I'm starting to notice that a lot of fine haired wavies have their own little tweaks to the CG method - so interesting to read what others are doing!

Basically I wash, condition and add leave in (if needed) then product (which I'm still playing with), plop for a bit,let air dry all the way and then gently comb out.
First pic I used BRHG and the second and third was with loreal everstyle beach waves spray. I don't like the gritty feel with the beach waves spray. But I think it's cuz I sprayed some on after it was dry too. I like the loose waves with both. I'm tempted to try a new product or two, just don't know what yet.

shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie instead of a leave in gives me great body and makes my hair very shiny( not greasy) when I comb my hair. A little goes a long way. I find it gives my hair great moisture , not curl enhancing .

From time to time I will comb my hair out, for sort of retro-glam waves. It works best when I use a wide-toothed comb and go from underneath. Combing from the top deflates the roots and makes my ends frizz, but gentle combing from below gives good glam hair 90% of the time. The other 10%... it's "why did I do that?!!"

I never thought about doing this on day two hair. I definitely don't want to comb out my day one hair but hmm.... Might try! I could see where combing it gently might smooth the waves and I could use just a spritz of water and conditioner to refresh.
