Since going cg, some days my hair has nice 2c curls with 3a pieces and on bad days its more like 2b/c. I'm still trying to find a good routine with the cg method. Although, I think I might know why some days are way better than others. The less I scrunch my hair, the better my curl is. If I scrunch, i have less curl but more volume and frizz. If I don't I have alot of curl but less volume and clumping. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm just frustrated that I cant find a happy median..

Mostly 2B with 2C elements and quite a few random 3A corkscrews in my underneath layer. Re-tested my hair porosity and it is now low. I have fairly dense, medium thick hair.

Use: Shea Moisture Raw shampoo and conditioner, co-wash w/ suave naturals coconut, aussie ausome volume mousse and Herbal essence totally twisted gel.
Try plopping for a bit it should keep your curls in tact and give you some volume at the same time. I found that it takes some time to get plopping right. The other day my bangs were just a big swirl because I had them caught in the t-shirt I was using. And yesterday my hair came out looking all 20s style because one side was flat. Obviously I still have to give it a few more tries to get it right, but so far plopping really does make a difference!
Just try it a few times and see if it works
How are you scrunching? What products have you put into your hair before scrunching?

I like to scrunch because it gives me more curl and volume, but it does create frizz sometimes depending on some things. First, I learned I was scrunching way too aggressively. I now try to be a little more gentle haha. Also, I was watching a youtube video (I forget which one) of a Deva Cut, and the stylist said to scrunch with your palms. The more I grab with my fingers vs. the palms, the more I mess up the curl.

I've also discovered that different products scrunch better. "Smoother" products like my flax seed gel or my leave-in conditioner seem to scrunch the best. "Grabbier" products like gels don't work as well for me. So I try to do most of my scrunching when I have applied only the leave-in and/or FSG, and then only gently finish with a hard hold gel.

Finally, you could try scrunching with different materials, like a microfiber towerl instead of your bare hands. Just some ideas!

2b/c, high density
fine, medium porosity, normal elasticity
loves protein, hates polyquats
still searching for HGs
Thanks ya'll, I actually did try plopping today and it did work out nicely. I've also realized I do scrunch too much and aggressively lol. I'm not sure I understand palm scrunching though. It must be habit for me to use my fingers. Also I tried out a new product I bought before plopping, Kinky curly spiral spritz, along with my Aussie awesome volume mousse today instead of HE gel, and I think I like it better. The gel did define my curls way more but I am actually quite happy with these 2b curls I got today AND the volume! I also have no frizz. Maybe I was trying to hard to curl my hair in to some thing its not.

I've learned that when the ladies on this forum say scrunching, it's a completely different kind of scrunching than what I used to know/do. It's usually done on very wet hair (which was hard to grasp but made a HUGE difference for me), and it's very gentle and more like squishing the hair. If I scrunch my damp hair or am too rough, I get permy looking waves and frizz. Gentle squishing and scrunching into sailing wet hair gives me much better clumping waves and spirals.

I'm horrible at explaining it. This is how nc describes it http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlre...or-not-to-plop

For me, it keeps curls clumped and defined, it seems to set my curl pattern.
