Whats the best way to use duckbill clips?

I've not had much success with these...maybe I'm dense and using them wrong.

Anyone want to share?

2C-3A??? Currently using Curly Q Milkshake, 3-minute Aussie Miracle, using non-sulphate shampoos, MopTop Pomade, Boots curl creme, always looking for that next miracle product for my hair! My PJ is never satisfied.
Ahhh.

Thanks.

How's that saying go?

Keep it simple stupid? Nothing like making a mountain from a molehill. :P
Ahhh, no worry. A lot of people on here have problems with clipping. It looks so simple but sometimes it can be difficult to get it exactly how you want it.

The clipping I've tried so far is FAR from simple for me! So, don't feel bad. I got them to work once (kinda) like Lorraine shows in the book, but it didn't do much for lasting volume on the top. Also, the clips always leave marks in my hair. I think trying the claw clips turned sideways sounds brilliant, though. I never would've thought of that! Hmmmm...
I have very fine 3A hair!

Entipy,

Just viewed your photos and had to tell you that your curls are GORGEOUS! I'm so envious! They're so frizz-and-poof-free, defined and healthy looking. Mind if ask what your routine and fav' products are? I'll probably never achieve what you've got (my hair is thick, coarse, long and colored), but I can dream, right?!
Type: Course & thick. According to everyone's input, 2c w/ 3a potential.
Color: Brown w/ highlights & annoying grays which I color.
Length: Past shoulders w/ layers.
Issues: Dryness, knots & more dryness!
Poo: Deva Lo-Poo 1 x week, Clarify 1-2 x month
CO Wash: Suave Tropical Coconut (but looking for something else b/c I suspect protein issues)
Condish: GVPCB, LVPNG
Leave-Ins: Was loving KBB Milk & Nectar, but overused them. Usually just leave-in some of what I CO with.
Styling: Biolage Gelee
swirldrops - Thanks for the compliment!

I've actually abandoned the whole CG routine and have gone back to normal shampoo/conditioning. However, I have retained a lot of the styling tips I learned on here, and I've found that I'm achieving the same curl definition now as I was then. (At least, it seems that way.)

Not sure my method would work on thick, coarse hair, but here's basically what I do after shampoo/conditioner.

Flip upside down and finger-comb my VERY wet hair. Put in gel (I usually run some through - just as you would a conditioner - then go back and scrunch more in all over, as well.) - I've found that Herbal Essences Set Me Up is a great one for me, but I also use Dep Sport and LA Looks sport. After scrunching in gel, I scrunch with a regular hand towel to remove some excess moisture. Just recently I've begun using Garnier Fructis Curl & Shine leave-in conditioner on my next step - I put a little in my hand and spread it thinly then scrunch/shape my curls. Next, I flip upside down and blow dry with a diffuser (I've used a cup and a sock - using a cup seems to work best for me, I think). Then I let it dry more while I put on make-up and get dressed. Scrunch out the crunch, position hairs where I want them, then spray with John Frieda's Frizz Ease hairspray. That's it!

Entipy... Thank YOU for sharing all that! I haven't had much luck with the CG routine. I find I do better shampooing every 2-3 days.

I am on the hunt for a more gentle shampoo though (thinking of trying the DevaCurl). Hardest thing for me has been resisting the urge to scrunch, squeeze, towel dry and wrap it up turban-style prior to putting my gel in (think I'm a little change-challenged! ). But I've definitely had better results applying gel to sopping wet hair and then gently scrunching with a towel and leaving it alone to dry.

Anyway... thanks to you and everyone!

You're welcome, swirldrops! Anytime. I really have found that most of the difference - in my hair, at least - is in styling method and not cleansing. Maybe my hair just doesn't mind 'cones and alcohol.

One more thing I thought of. Chances are, you could be using way too LITTLE product, especially conditioner, if your hair is thick and coarse. My hair is VERY fine, and I use a good bit of stuff. My GF C&S normal conditioner, I use about two quarter-sized amounts, if not more, and I use about three or four dime-sized amounts of gel. Anyway, you should maybe try it. I find the curly hair does better if it's completely saturated with something. (I do rinse mine out all the way, too, though.)
