anyone use a "pick"

My hair is wavy/curly but can look messy. I have been diffusing or air drying and then using the afro pick through it. Is this a mistake? It seems so messy if I just leave it alone. Thanks for any tips. anne

I wide comb which is similar. There comes a point in the day where I just have to for the same reason.

I do not hesitate to comb, pick, or - on rare occasions - even brush my hair. I think wavy hair can handle it. I don't do it very often though. Most of the time now it's fine after I wash and diffuse it. I don't do anything but fluff it up with my fingers the next day or two. But once in a while my hair rebels, or the humidity is off, or the earth's gravitational field or something equally mysterious happens and I am a stringy mess. If I pick or comb it out, then mist with water and scrunch I often get big soft waves. It's actually my favorite look when it works and it works most of the time. If it doesn't work, then I go to the brush. That's dangerous and there's no going back at that point. But I'm ok with looking like I stuck my finger in a light socket once in a while.
