I like mixing oil with conditioner because it makes it MUCH easier for me to distribute and I think it makes it easier for me to wash out. I've had success with shorter (30 min to 2 hours) prepoos of conditioner, coconut oil, and honey (but skip the honey if you're avoiding humectants).

BTW, we coslept too - nothing weird about it. I loved that time with my little ones, even if I was sleep deprived.

Awesome...thank you! I actually just wanted to purchase some "protein"-like today and see if that made any difference at all in my hair, which is why i said a ground store. I picked up a SM moisture mist at target with some protein in it and a Yes To Carrots Healthy Hair conditioner with glycoproteins. If my hair is even more funkified tomorrow then at least we will have ruled out proteins don't you think? I mean I feel like I should try one round just to see what happens.

I think I'll order the curl junkie sample packs and see how they do....so your hair likes their protein treatment huh?

I'll have to check out those others like the okra gel. I mean I would like to wear my hair down and have it styled, but most days I wet bun it. It just bugs me at the end of the day how parched it looks and feels. I would love to have the option of wearing it down without encouraging the curls for a nice loose wavy look you know?

I took a few pics since my hair is about 80% dry...I will try to get them up...they are hella embarrassing though lol.

I thought you said they were embarrassing!? lol. I can see the frizz you're talking about at the ends though. I think I see harder holding gels in your future. Might be a product application issue too- how do you apply everything?

I don't see much frizz except at the bottom. When was your last trim? Your hair doesn't look anything like your description of it.

Well since I bun it...I just smooth the product from head to ends and comb through it and pull it up. I think it's more of a "hair health" issue though you know? I can see hard gels if I was going to wear it down, but it's the fact that my hair looks like it seriously needs some TLC that bothers me you know? I really want to correct that before I worry about wearing it down curly.

I got my hair cut about two or three weeks ago. Once it's completely dry though it definitely puffs out a little bit more.

Perhaps you should adjust your expectations a tiny bit

Seriously, your hair doesn't look that bad. I think you need to spend some time learning about adjusting your routine to the dew point, but you may not get rid of all the frizz during the high dew point season. There are many threads and articles about it. For example:

I don't think it's a fair test, you are combing and wet bunning then wanting clumped curls that would need to be diffused or air dried. Combing separates curls, up dos can easily cause the ends to get bent out of shape.

Maybe more conditioner and styler at the ends, longer plop to speed up air drying time, mini claw clips or an Alice band to hold the front out of your little one's grasp?

Your hair looks good! I'm not sure that protein is the answer that you're looking for, but here is a homemade gelatin recipe:

PT recipe - as promised

Thank you! I'm not really expecting "clumping"...I'm expecting soft waves I guess? It's hard to describe, but I seriously had it about three months ago! I would unbun my hair from the day and once it finished drying it was soft and pretty with gentle waves. Now it's funky.

I will check out that info on dewpoints. I'm not sure if protein is the answer either...it just can't possibly be. I chickened out today on using the new products with protein. I just don't want to make anything worse.

On another note, I think Yes to Carrots has the potential to have protein...it has wheat germ oil and jojoba...my hair isn't too fond of oiling with jojoba, so I don't know if it would react that way from a conditioner. I've heard wheat germ can contain protein as well, so maybe I need to find another conditioner.
