Default calling all 2c's with medium medium, medium on all qualities

I have normal porosity, medium thick strands, and medium density, cuz my pony measures at like 3.5. Just want to know if others like me notice these observations. When it's freshly washed, dried, and styled curly, it's got fairly good volume (especially if no product), BUT sleep on it in like a ponytail (at the nape) or a braid, and the next day flat hair. Most straight haired people braid their hair to get volume and waves, and I braid it and it comes out totally flat and loses curl.

Another observation: my hair can look like a lot, but grab my hair when it's in a ponytail and it feels so light. I just wonder how accurate the density test is, because even though I'm medium density, it makes me think that I have less pores and maybe the thickness of the strands is what makes my pony come out to a whopping 3.5?? Just curious, maybe there are more people out there like me but since I can't obvious touch, feel and play with your hair, I don't realize that it's not that I'm lacking here, but yet it's the qualities of my hair that make it feel like that. Most of the "big" hair thing is an optical illusion of curls and air, no??? Just wondering.

I feel exactly like you and experience just what you described. It's what makes me feel like an "imposter". I'm guessing we are actually a "type".

Good to know I"m not the only one. People that are used to seeing me with the "voluminous" look freak out when they see me with second day flat hair or bed hair, and then they ask me if I've lost half my hair, so that doesn't feel good. Plus my hair just feels so light, even if it looks like it's a lot. Most people here with curly hair I see, are either curlier than me, or have the fine hair, lots of it, so it just holds and moves different than mine. We've gotta stick together.

I'm actually a 3a with 3b tendencies (when using certain products, right temperatures, etc.) and I definitely can relate to the second day hair issue. I usually have nice volume (sometimes more) and nice curl definition...etc. on wash day, but second day hair (85% of the time) is usually as you described. It definitely looses volume and curl definition . My hair is also normal everything, but 3a/b. I definitely wear it up on the second day. Sometimes (rarely), I can get decent second day hair without doing anything. I have lots of people comment about how thick my hair is....but like you, it doesn't "feel" thick.

we need to get together just to feel each other's hair and not lose reality that we are normal, just in a different way. I love hearing these stories, our hair what it "seems" like to others and what it is in reality!

This thread makes me feel sooo much better.

I'm a 2C/3A, and yeah. My hair is GREAT on day 1. And then I sleep on it, and no matter what I do, it's just... flat. Ugh! If you figure out the secret to preserving bounce, pleeease let me know!

I have low density do I'm not as fortunate as you medium density ladies. But, i do wake up with flat hair that had lost almost all curl definition. I'll put a picture of my morning hair...but i am able to revive my curls and volume a bit. I wet my hands and get some gel then flip my head over and scrunch. I have diffused after this but since i have shorter hair i get unflattering volume. I'll post pictures of that too. So i prefer not diffusing but i always scrunch upside with water and gel for 2nd day hair.

Do you guys ever pineapple? My hair is just now long enough to do so and it makes a big difference for me. It gives me lift and volume for my second day hair, although I will admit it also gives me more frizz. I usually use the SM milk or spray to calm the crown and it occasionally works. Otherwise, I loosely pull it back into a low ponytail and my ponytail still has some nice curl.

I used to pineapple but my hair is too long now and my ends will end up stringy looking, undefined and straight-ish..and the rest of my hair just ends up looking a mess...not a good look.

I can't do second day hair ;( it just ends up as a big poof (like it used to before I went cg) so I usually don't try pineappling

No don't feel bad, this is to make us feel good. I have medium density, but part of that "big" (doesn't look big to me) ponytail is because my strands are medium thickness. If they were fine, I'd have low density too, so we probably have the same amount of pores on our head, it's just my strands are a bit thicker. I can't pineapple because it hurts my scalp to have my hairs go in that direction. My hairs are very sensitive, they don't like to go in new directions. I do a low pony and either put three scrunchies through the length to keep it all together or a braid, but because of this "compressed" thing I do at night, I have no curl definition or volume the next day.

At best I am meduim density and thickness but people always comment on how much hair I have. Its faux volume, however. My hair is big and fluffy from day 2 on, but I am pretty sure it's a side effect, so to speak, of pineappling. If I did Mamma H's ponytail banding, I'd have straight, thin hair without a doubt. Pineappling took some getting used to - it did make my scalp a bit tender the first week or so but I adjusted. However, without the volume it gives me I would have ditched the whole CG method. I hate the flat look I get from gel while I wait to SOTC. I look like I have NO hair after the gel goes in before it dries. Hmmm - I didn't even realize how much that bothers me until I wrote this post. I guess I'm flat hair phobic or something.

But see now you're not the only one, so don't feel so bad. . . who is flat hair phobic. My part looks wider than my daughter's, partly because she's got more hair than I , but also because of that FLAT top, but yeah it's faux volume. See it feels good to know i'm not the only one. Hopefully you feel a bit better too. Yes I measure my pony and it's small, compared to those girls with thick straight hair that have those bubble-bursting diameters full of hair!! We can't win 100% I guess.
