Default Newbie needing advice

Hi y'all, this is my first post. Ill start by telling y'all a little bit about my hair. It's high porosity from being damaged. I dye it atleast once a month and use heat frequently. It's medium density medium/coarse texture. As far as I can tell I'm slightly protein deficient. I've never ever been happy with my hair. I would really like to enhance my natural curl and gain texture. When my hair is dry it has next to no texture. It's just there. A big frizzy wavy mop. Haha. My current routine (when I don't straighten) is:
-Pantene beautiful lengths shampoo: every 2 or 3 days (not your mothers dry shampoo on no poo days)
-Pantene beautiful lengths conditioner every day
-Immediately put hair up in a towel right after shower
-Leave in towel for about 20 mins, take out and comb in healthy sexy hair LI conditioner
-Scrunch in Shea Moisture curl enhancing smoothie
-Air dry
Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks ladies

You should definitely give the curly girl method a try. It has saved many people's hair, including my own. NO sulfates or silicones, and you really need to cut out the heat. Sulfates dry the hair, and silicones coat the hair, not letting any moisture penetrate, and drying the hair in the long run. Your frizz and poof problem is lack of moisture and heat/chemical damage.

Get yourself a sulfate free cleanser and a silicone free conditioner (shea moisture, giovanni, and devacurl are my favorite brands) and a co-wash conditioner like suave naturals might be good if you want to co-wash

Then you need a silicone free leave in conditioner, and you can actually use your curl enhancing smoothie because it is pretty moisturizing

As for a styling product, I would recommend a silicone free gel for better control. I usually recommend the LA looks gels for newbies because they are cheap and there is a wide variety so you can try a bunch out to find your perfect fit without breaking the bank. The sport is really popular. Look for a hold from 7-10.

DO NOT FORGET TO DO PROTEIN AND DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENTS!!!!!

I usually use my conditioner as a base and add stuff like eggs, mayo, olive/coconut oil, yogurt, honey, agave, etc

When your hair improves in condition, you need to do a big chop to get rid of the damaged ends. Then your hair will be healthy and grow quickly.

JessiiLeighh hit on several good points, but I need to point out that the foods she listed for protein treatments (eggs, yogurt, etc.) will not do anything in terms of getting protein into your hair--the protein molecules are too large. If you want a homemade protein treatment, your best bet is unflavored gelatin. However, with meduim/coarse hair, you should probably start with some more gentle commercial products to avoid any adverse responses to excessive protein. Keratin and silk amino acids are generally better tolerated proteins for people with otherwise protein sensitive hair. It might be that your porosity is high enough that you can handle heavy hits of protein, but I would suggest starting slowly just in case.

Thanks for your input guys. I was hoping to avoid the big chop haha my hair is short (shoulder length) and I'm trying to grow it out. I'm gonna start trying co-washing. Sometimes I think the lack of definition in my curls is due to my hair being too soft. Is that possible?? It's either super soft or super coarse and frizzy. My hair is so odd. That's why I've straightened it for years

Try protein treatments for sure. You can test a strand.

Proven beneficial ingredients for damaged or porous hair include coconut oil, hydrolysed protein, ceramides, 18-MEA and panthenol. Be cautious with hydrolysed protein on coarser hair.

Try not combing other than when detangling in the shower when head is slathered in conditioner. Combing separates waves/ curls into individual hairs which is basically what frizz is, and pulls out the waves. Also try applying products to dripping hair then removing excess water.
