Second-day hair solutions?

Like Tree7Likes

I'm still working on a 2nd day hair routine. It's really hard! So far I just wet my hair a bit, add a tiny bit of product (usually mousse, as gel is too much on second day for my fine hair), and scrunch it in. Then SOTC if there is crunch when it dries.

It works ok but my hair is always a weird shape on the second day. It's hard to explain. I just end up pulling it back when I get fed up.

Any second-day hair styles or solutions for wavies?

In really Rewet mine. Either with a spray bottle in the length completely. It still less wet and saturated than in a wash day.
I have to re-wet mine as well. I'm also looking for a solution, and I've tried pretty much everything. Boo. With winter coming up, I really don't want to be an icicle when I get to work.

NP/LP: KMF Whenever Conditioner/ YTCucs
RO/LI: Sevi Pumpkin Seed DC / CJ Argan & Olive Oil, KCKT, YTBbs
DT: Coconut Oil + scalp massage
OIL/STYLER: SM Elixir / KCCC
COLOR: henna, amla & indigo
I too have to rewet - with a spray bottle filled with water & a few drops of lavender oil. Then I usually gently scrunch in some aloe vera gel. The advantage is it's a big timesaver - takes a lot less time to style & dry - but it really never looks as good as if I did my full routine.
Sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase helps a lot to preserve the shape.
Medium Texture/Normal Porosity
Summer routine - icequeen method and loving CJ Aloe Fix Lite, diluted with a few drops of water for frizz control and clumping.
Curl Junkie conditioners, Elucence moisture balancing conditioner, CJ Pattern Pusha, CJ Curl Queen, UFDCM,

CG since Aug. 08, still a lot to learn

What works well for me is to spray roots with dry shampoo at night and massage my scalp upside down in the morning to prevent oil and flatness. To reform waves I mist with sea salt spray and scrunch it with at shirt. Sleeping on a satin pillow case does help.

Thanks for the tips everyone! Is there any dry shampoo you recommend? Pre-CG when I was straightening I would use baby powder to absorb second day oil but that's not an issue for me now since going CG .... But I don't know anything about what to look for in a dry shampoo?

I love Batiste! It's the only thing that works! I get the blonde hair one but there's a brunette one and a normal one.
I am a Batiste fan, only around face and occasionally crown tho, I tend to wipe the excess with a soft towel.

Flour sack towel, pixie diffuse or air dry.
Experimenting with: benign neglect
Do they sell that in drug stores or is that something I have to order online? Also, where can I get an inexpensive satin pillowcase? Is that something that is sold everywhere like walmart

Pillowcase- I bought at Walmart
Batiste- I find it at TJ Max, Marshals, Walgreens, and Walmart. The ones that deposit a little color are great for blonde hair. My hair will get darker and dirty looking on the second day. Batiste is my HG for dry shampoo.
What I have found really helps my hair is to "dry plop" before going to bed.

I flip my head upside down and wrap a bandanna or tshirt fabric around my hair. make sure the ends are covered, and tie it off. I toss and turn a lot in my sleep and I was always waking up with frizzed out waves or flat, straight waves from my hair being smushed against my pillow.

Wrapping it up helps protect the waves and curls from being disturbed as I sleep, and wrapping it with my head flipped upside down means I get some volume at the roots. When I first take the wrap off in the morning it looks ridiculous, but after a few minutes it comes back down and settles into place. I might have to rewet one or two curls at the front of my face, but that's it!

I've only done this twice (newly discovered method for me), but maybe it'll work for someone else. When I wash, I wash at night and just sleep on damp hair. I have really nice waves the next day.
On second hair days, I shower in the morning. Before showering I spray my hair with lavender spray, to make it damp but not wet. Then I shower and I guess the steam makes my hair wavy/curlier. I let it air dry (I use very little gel), and I'm on my way!
I'm going to try it today for third day hair.
2B Fine, low low porosity, medium density

Figuring out products to use on my wavy pixie!

Wow, I agree, it looks really good. Maybe I'll try that, as I toss and turn a lot.

*sorry pics are crooked- can't figure out why it keeps flipping them?*

Yes! My absolute favorite is to pin it all up in a big messy lump I get the most compliments like this- people say I look fancy and all when in reality it just means I'm having a bad hair day

This is my second-day hair I'm wearing right now. There are a lot of fly-aways but I'm not very dedicated to how it looks so I'm sure with more attention it could be a sleeker look.

I just take sections of hair and flip them upwards towards my forehead then pin, then let it back down so it looks like a tiny pony-tail. I do this all the way around the back in two layers- top and bottom. Then pull the front sections back and pin so it looks good by your face. Then randomly start pinning the back until it looks and feels contained. If there's a lump pin it down, pull curls over bare spots, etc. It looks different every time

Looks cute with a headband or scarf too!

To help me get second day hair, I have to put my hair into a pineapple the night before with a jaw clip. I make sure the ponytail it creates is really pushed towards the top of my head. The next morning, I shake my hair out and depending on how it looks, I'll use a damp washcloth to scrunch the hair to reform waves and then add in a few pumps of Suave Waterless Foam Shampoo. The Suave product is really awesome...it works great and is under $5!! Good luck!!
2a, fine-med. text, normal porosity (I think)

I don't re-wet my hair personally as I find that gives me frizz. The gel I've applied on the first day is usually enough to keep my 3A curls in check for the next few days, so all I do is pineapple at night (very high - with an invisibobble) and put a satin sleeping cap on. Then in the morning I shake my hair lose and scrunch a bit of leave-in conditioner to the ends

I can usually do this for about three-four days and then I'll wash my hair again.

So last night I tried to pineapple again ...I must have left the elastic too loose (I didn't want it too tight to leave a bend in my hair) because it was not up in the morning. Either that or I just got annoyed with it in my sleep - this is possible because my elastic somehow made it's way back to my wrist?? lol

Anyway my hair was a mess so I wet it pretty thoroughly, though not as thoroughly as in the shower. I scrunched in some HETT mousse and it actually looked pretty good when it dried, still feels soft, and is decent with just a pin pulling the front strands out of my face.

Maybe I am on to something ... I need to get a sleep cap instead I think.

Sleep caps have been known to smoosh hair, so make sure to find the right size for your amount of hair. Or a protective style + sleep cap works too! I find braiding works pretty well.
