Over conditioned . . . again?

I was getting over conditioned a lot before so upon a recommendation I switched to a conditioner with protein in it. My fine hair really likes protein. I was using Giovanni Smooth as Silk for awhile and it was working out pretty well but it has started to leave me feeling very weighed down and a little over conditioned. My curls/waves eventually got limp and kind of flat-ish even after a low poo. But they're still perkier than they were when I was using a RO without protein. So I'd like to keep doing that but with a lighter RO I guess.

I was thinking about trying Aubrey Organics protein balancing conditioner but I think there is less protein in that than the GSS. Looking at the ingredients now I think the bottle in my shower is different from what I find online (OY). So now I'm really confused. Ideas?? Thanks so much guys.

Rethinking all my products currently. Went back to sulfates and have been doing pretty well since I cut most of my damage out. My porosity has lowered and my hair is more consistent.
Shampoo (gasp): Suave Ocean Breeze
Condish: Mostly Suave Coconut(diluted with water), going through old conditioners to see what might work: GVPCB, Jessicurl Aloeba
PT: Not needed much anymore!
Styler: LALSG, FSG

My hair goes through phases. During winter I use a leave-in conditioner but as summer comes around it just weighs down my hair and I have to stop. The best solution I've found yet is a mouse with leave-in conditioner in it. It's light but applies evenly and keeps my frizz at bay without stretching my curls out.

I'd say keep trying different products. I know it gets expensive but once you find something that works it's soooo worth it!

Maybe try a lighter conditioner and do a deep condition once a week or so? My hair gets really dry but it also can get greasy so it's a fine line :/
Thanks for your input! It does appear to be a fine line for me, too. I bought a bottle of Cure Care today, it sounded pretty light. And I still like the GSS so maybe I should just use it less often. Maybe I've been too heavy handed with my leave in, too.

I honestly haven't experienced much dry hair since I started CG. I liked the smell of my no-poo but I think I do better with low-poo most days. About twice a week I'll get it right and my hair will look fantastic! But it seems like the same thing never works two days in a row. Most days it's very blah looking (to me at least). I can see that it's working so I stick with it!

Once in a while I can use the AO GPB as a DT. But when I use too often, also as a RO, I find it too heavy. I have low poreus hair, so that might have something to do with it.

People seem to have really mixed opinions on it. Sometimes it feels like I can't get enough protein no matter how much I use it. I maybe wonder if I get weighed down so much because I'm wrong about my porosity? Maybe I should get a hair analysis. Thanks for your input!

If you're finding yourself overconditioned I would suggest not using the Deva OC as a leave-in. It doesn't have any protein and might be weighing you down. I've been actually liking using G SaS as my RO and LI. Try it as an LI!

I also think you may need a better/stronger PT. I seem to remember the GVP one it's not one of the stronger ones. I've been using IAgirl's recipe but Spiral Solutions makes a great PT too imo. Not all PTs have the same amount of protein... some are actually more moisturizing, less protein-heavy than others which can be confusing.

And lastly some people have problems with the No-Poo because of the polyquats. Not saying that's necessary in your case but something to keep in mind.
fine - normal porosity*?- medium density - normal elasticity. Hard water. SoCal.
*Used to be low-porosity, but I lightened my hair 1-2 shades, so I may be normal-porosity now.

New climate! Current favorites:
Low-poo: CJ Gentle Cleansing Shampoo, Giovanni SaS
RO: V05 Kiwi Lime
Styler: UFD CM (old formula), FSG + CNPF
PT: CJ Repair Me, IAgirl's gelatine

Experimenting with: JC Confident Coils, JC Rockin Ringlets, CJ CIAB, gelatin gel

That is really good information, thanks so much WavyDaze! I stopped using No Poo for the last couple of days and I have been noticing a little difference.

At first GVP was working out really well for me but it does seem to have lost some of it's kick now that you mention it.

I've been meaning to try IAgirl's PT. I can't wait to wash my hair again and try out these new suggestions! I just wish I didn't have a full bottle of OneC now. Pooper scooper. But it was all in the name of experimentation! Don't know what I'd do without you girls, probably give up. Thanks
