ag recoil vs devacurl, among other things

Okay wavies, I'm 2b/2c, thin, medium density, normal porosity, medium length (couple inches past shoulders) with some longer layers. Old highlights toward ends. Haven't dyed whole head since March. Began CGM in march. live in southwest pa so humid in summer higher dewpoints, somewhat humid spring/fall, drier in winter low dewpoints. My hair needs something. oomph. new products. new styling. something. I'm thinking either some devacurl low poo/conditioner/gel or some ag recoil lowpoo/conditioner/gel. or mix and match. I don't give a darn I just need something that will work and give hair more life. Also thinking about satin sleep cap, although it may drive me bonkers. I asked for sally's gift card and ulta gift card for xmas to help me pay for new purchases. I know a lot of things are trial and error, and I don't mind doing that with drugstore products, but when it comes to more expensive things I try to do my research and ask for input before I go spending money. I just feel like I know my hair can look a little better than it does. I'm learning to accept the waves as opposed to curls, I just need them to be pretty, more manageable waves lol. any input is greatly appreciated thank you
I live in SE PA, so have fairly similar weather. Started out as a winter wavy/summer 3a who didn't use products until I started lurking on nc.com. Most of us started out with Deva and moved on to things we like MUCH better.

My hair prefers the more natural products. I stay away from a lot of chemicals, especially polyquats. My hair has always satiated on product--even back in my shampoo/conditioner only days. I wet, use a rinse out and style every day. Seldom use any one product more then once every five days, if that. When dewpoints are higher, I use a leave in OR curl enhancer with a jelly product. When lower, I use a leave in AND curl enhancer with a jelly product. Hair LOVES protein. I do at least one PT a week and use a lot of products with protein.

While our properties aren't identical, many of the products in my signature should work for you.

FWIW, Deva products did not work for me. My hair felt dirty and coated after 2 or 3 uses so I stay away from the Deva line. I have really liked the AG products so far. I have only tried the recoil and the Gel mousse but they are staples for me. My standard routine is co-wash, recoil, gel. Those are the only products I put in my hair. It's simple and I don't have to add additional product even on day 2 or 3. HTH.
2b/2c ( weather permitting - 3a), fine texture but lots of it, colored and highlights, BSL.

Current rotation:

AG Gel Mousse, LA Gel,
DT = Coconut oil (love)
The re : coil gives my hair nice bounce, but it's easy to use too much which gives the hair a plastic feel that I hate. I'm still trying to get predictable results with it.

Devacurl works pretty well as long as you don't have low porosity. I recommend their B'Leave-in which is NOT a leave in conditioner. It is a protein curl enhancer and definitely gave my hair body and bounce. They say not to use protein in winter, but I never had a problem with it. Using a curl enhancer with salt is much worse in the dry wintertime than protein is. You want to preserve as much moisture as you can, so use a leave in underneath and seal with an oil.

I have to use different products depending on the time of year. When the dews are higher, I use devacare low poo and one condition, ag recoil curl cream, and as i am curling jelly. In lower dews I try to cut back on humectants a bit, so I was using yes to cucumbers shampoo and conditioner, regis olive oil leave in conditioner, ag recoil curl cream, and aussie instant freeze gel. However, this winter I tried flax seed gel infused with mag sulfate for the first time. Holy moly, I LOVE it. So instead of recoil + aussie instant freeze, i'm just using the flax seed gel.
Hair Properties: 2A/2B, Medium-fine, Normal porosity, Normal elasticity, Medium density
Low Poo: DevaCare, Yes to Cuc's

Curl Cream: AG ReCoil, Organix Moroccan Oil Curl Cream
Gel/Mousse: Sweet Curls Elixirs FSG w/ Mag Sulfate added, Sweet Curls Elixirs hard hold gel, DevaCurl Frizz Free Foam, Aquage Uplifting Foam
Protein: Spiral Solutions Protein Spray for daily use
I'm with everyone on staying away from the DevaCurl line. The polyquats, among other bad ingredients, are just not good. I really loved the AG Re:Coil, but it coated my hair with polyquats as well and made my hair dry. If you use this product, just be sure to clarify regularly. Not everybody's hair is the same, so you may not have a problem.. but just a heads up.

I tried Deva, tried other stuff and went back to Deva. I found that the issues I had with One Condition were solved by switching from DevaCurl to DevaCARE, and the combo of B'Leave-In plus Ultra Defining Gel gives me amazing curls and even second day hair, which is a very rare thing for me.

I love the b'leave in and deva volumizing foam. They leave my hair soft and voluminous, not that wet look at ALL! My hair is easily weighed down and gets the wet look from most gels, so I definitely love these two products. I haven't been using b'leave in since it has a lot of glycerin and we have low dews here.

I also like deva low poo and one c a lot. I have been steering clear of them, again due to the glycerin. I've been using CJ DF and yes to carrots, which I like a lot, too.

My hair loves protein, plopping, and diffusing! Trying to find a way to style and air dry.
The only Deva product I've tried is DevaCare One condition. I got a sample and it was ok, nothing special IMHO. Definitely not impressed to buy a bottle of it.

I've tried the re:coil curl enhancer and also not very impressed. Most of the time my hair feels icky with it and coated.

If you're going the Sallys route, I like the GVP conditioning balm for a heavier conditioner.
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Repair Me, CJ Smoothing

Thank you all

I live in NE Pa, our weather pattern is similar. I LOVE LA Looks Sports Gel over re:coil. The gel is crazy cheap and I don't get really crunchy from it. I am 2C, fine/medium, normal, normal. Hope this helps!
