I have realized I don't wanna be a curlie!!

Or straight.

I just want to slap some product into my damp hair, let it air dry (maybe a quick blow dry to the bangs) and know that I have a haircut that will look good. Don't care about getting curlier, or straightening....just want MY hair to look OK.

Now why is this so impossible to accomplish?

LOL! Ain't that the truth! I keep thinking that since everyone thinks they want thick wavy hair, this should be easier. Lots of hair styles and products available... nope.

I've decided to give up my curl for length (and body wave), since it's the length I am really longing for now.

Good luck!

That's what I do
Is that wierd? I figure I could get curlier if I used a diffuser, but the whole point in going natural to me was so I could stop messing around with the blowdrier. Straight works great with a blowdrier but humidity frizzes it out instantly, so I just let it do it's thing. The longer it gets the less odd it looks. Letting my layers grow out helped too I think.
Fine Wavy (2a)
Weeklyish shampoo with CO's inbetween to keep down the grease.
Me too..I decided I'm not going to try to get my hair curlier anymore. When I try for curlier, I get messier, wilder, and frizzier, and an unhappy bad hair day. I don't have a strong curl pattern and my hair is soft and fine. Since I have grown out my layers and my hair is so much longer now, I have less curl and more wave, with curls at the ends. My focus now is more height at the top (I've been using long duck bill clips, instead of the short ones with some success) and a smoother, wavy, back with nice curls at the ends (I like to comb through my first product and scrunch in the second).

I hate being so obsessed about my hair everyday. Sooo..what am I going to use/try today, and is it going to turn out good, and will I feel okay to leave the house looking like this....It makes me sad to feel this controlled by my hair, when it is the hair that I was born with just like everybody else, but mine drives me crazy!!

I can relate but I have a twist on mine. For me, my hair SO affects how my face looks and sometimes that's how I base whether or not I like my wavy/curly hair. I really do need bangs, but wish I could let my hair either part down the middle (or off-side, or just all back) like alot of other gals seem to be able to do. But it changes the whole dynamic of my face, so back to bangs I go. I'm also tired of having hair that I can't run my fingers through because of some gel I just had to try!

But, I'm going to try a couple of things. I have plent of wave/curl on it's own. I really don't need to scrunch other than to help give my sides some fullness. So, I'm going to back off from the diffusing unless I'm in a hurry. I'm going to try to wide-tooth comb my hair with products in and let my hair wave/curl however it wants. Then, if I need to hot curl my bangs and just the top section of my hair (for height), I will. That's how I look best and it doesn't take but a minute once my hair is dry.

I'm already trying to put the PJ monster to rest by only sticking with those products I really like and throwing the rest on the Swap Board or Ebay. My husband uses a little gel and he's helping me use up stuff, too. This sounds weird, but when I just HEAR the word "gel" .. I want to slather my hair in it . There's just SOMETHING about the word "gel" that means "magic" to me .

I don't know if this post is truly in-line with your original post, DrainClogger, but when I read what you wrote - I just want to slap some product into my damp hair, let it air dry (maybe a quick blow dry to the bangs) and know that I have a haircut that will look good. Don't care about getting curlier, or straightening....just want MY hair to look OK, I found myself nodding in agreement!

I just want my hair to be touchable, soft, with movement and minimal fuss.

Cricket - your hair reminds me of mine somewhat. Mine is fine/thin on top (hence needing fullness) with waves/curls on the bottom. I looked at your pics - do you use GW Making Waves or were you referring to your hair making waves? . I've been using the MW and love it - just wish it was cheaper!

I understand the bangs issue. I used to have all over layers on shoulder length hair and a feathered top with bangs. I could just blow out the top and leave the rest alone, and I actually loved it that way, until summer humidity or rain would come and my natural curl would take over my bangs. Then I hated it, plus I was told the style was too 80s (no wonder I had the same cut since 83), so I've grown it out.

I'm not as happy with my curls now. I guess because of the length they are so different, there is more of what I call "lumpy-bumpy" and less uniform curl. I miss those bouncy curls I had with short hair, but I hate to cut it though because I have come this far, you know. I would really like to grow my bangs all the way out before I decide to go shorter. Plus on me long hair with layers gives me a sort of mullet look !

Yeah, I hate when the humidity gets to my bangs! As long as I mist them with a light hair spray after I curl them, usually they'll hold up in any humidity. But if I forget .. .. they turn into fuzz!

What products have you tried to give you more curls?

Let's see....I tried recoil, but it was too heavy for me, made my crown look greasy. Back to Basics Curl activating gel makes me the curliest. Products like BRHG, Boots, POTAR and Abba WGel I can only use sparingly and after a cream or liguidy gel, otherwise I get cotton candy like hair and way too much crunch.

Basically I get three kinds of results: very curly and wild/frizzy, very defined curls, but wet look/coated/heavy, or not very curly, more lumpy-bumpy with curls on ends. I haven't had a good hair day in a long time. At this point I am looking forward to summer humidity just for a different result.

I have no HG products. Some days I just want to throw it all out and start again, if it wasn't for all the money I've spent. A few of the products I've had for so long they are now discontinued. My last purchases were the Loob & TW. I get decent curl formation, but the cream gives me a flatter crown. No more new products ~ they just don't work for me the way they do for others.

Don't be embarrassed by the amount of stuff you have - I bet if all of us put all our stuff (used, barely used and unusued) together, it would be utterly astounding !

Products .. hmmm .. have you tried any of the Herbal Essense gels? What about GF Soft Curl Cream? Aussie gels? Jessicurl? JoiWhip mousse? I'm wracking my brain trying to think of unexplored possibilities for you .

Have you tried selling/swapping your stuff on the Swap Board to recoup some of your losses?

rock. The old Humidity defying (red tube) was the best, but it was dc'd.

So far I've tried the purple tube and blue one, they are also good.

At 2.99, I feel comfortable buying and tossing when they don't work, but so far I've used every last bit of every HE gel I've ever bought.

Unfortunately, the first time I sold something on the Swap Board, I got burnt. I sent a tube of Recoil to Amytug, and she never paid me for it, and has never opened my PMs, and that was back in November. Therefore, I have been reluctant to go back to the Swap Board again.

Well, Cricket, it looks like you've tried most of the good cheapies. You might want to give Jessicurl a try (sample pack) .. her stuff is pretty good.

Yeah, Amytug seems to have pulled a fast one on several curlies with bad swaps. The good swaps/sales far, far outweigh the bad. I'd give it another try and just be sure whoever wants to swap/buy from you has a good rec on the recommendation board. I've been lucky - haven't had a bad transaction yet, thank goodness. I can understand your hesitance, though.

Oh .. have you tried the GF CnS Conditioning Leave-In Cream as a styler? Or even the Sleek-n-Shine might would work. There's a big thread on the General Board - can't miss it !

You're very welcome .. always love trying to help a curly sister!

Wow, I have both the SnS and CnS and will have to check my bottles. I thought there was a minor difference way back when they first came on the scene. What else is odd is that I actually prefer the SnS to the CnS! I can't wait to get home to check them !
