Let's get this party started! Fave products and routine

I am loving Jessicurl right now. It took me over a week to figure it out, but, I am slowly beginning to love her products. I also love the Devacurl line, EMB conditioner, CK, B&A gel, AG re-coil, and Sauve M&H as a conditioner wash. I really want to try Aloeba and Gelebration, but where on earth would it fit in my bathroom?

What did you learn to do in order to make them work for you? I would love to get the curl enhancing benefits of the RR or Gelebration that everyone else seems to be getting

Wash with a rotation of HCC and Suave M&H conditioner

Rinse with Honey (2 tablespoons in 4 cups of water) and condtion with Too Shea before I rinse out the honey. Finger comb my hair. I leave all of this on until I am ready to get out of the shower.

Rinse upside down with cold water. Leave my head upside down as I do the following:

Gentley squeeze excess water out. Use about 1 dime size of EMB as a leave-in

Rake in 1 puddle of RR mixed with CCSS (I mixed two-three tablespoons of CCSS into the bottle of RR and shook the heck out of it).

Scrunch with microfiber towel and add three more puddles.of RR/CCSS combo. Some upside down, some with hair shaken to each side and make sure I get the halo area too. Scrunch with towel again.

This is the part I am still working on; all three give me good results.

Use CK before the above routine

Use B&A gel or Re-Coil after the above routine.

I also DT once a week with Jessicurl DT mixed with honey and Coconut oil on wet hair. I use heat with DT.

Key things for me are to not touch my hair with my hands. I even keep a little piece of microfiber towel in my purse for when I use Awe spray to refresh. At first I loved plopping, but, the above routine gives me less frizz and encourages the curl.

I also was not using enough product according to Jess. Using more helped, but, I can NOT use CCSS except for the little bit mixed with RR or I get frizzy. A little helps out, but a lot makes a mess for me.

HTH,

Kimberly
Thanks so much! I'm going to give this a try. I was using 2 parts RR to 1 part CCSS, but it still wasn't working for me. I think part of my problem is not using enough product, too, although I've read where the CCSS can be kind of finicky.

I like the AG Re:coil, too. Yesterday I used it underneath the Kenra Styling Gel (hold 17) & had great hair. I like using the CK under my Abba Weightless, but lately the CK has been almost too much moisture under some of my other gels.

I usually don't use (or need) leave-ins, as I get so easily overconditioned, but I've been loving the Rusk Calm Leave In/Detangler sprayed onto the lower 1/2 or so of my hair. It's like water, so it needs to be sprayed on, but it's really helped any frizz that I might get.

Currently, I shampoo roughly every 3 days or so either with Jessicurl's HCC or Giovanni's 50:50 shampoo or Giovanni's Smooth as Silk conditioner (whatever seems right that day). I usually condition with Jessicurl's TooShea! in the shower & rinse most but not all of it out. After showering I blot most of the moisture out with a regular towel, then take about a pea-sized amount of Elucence MBC, smooth it in my hands & rake it throughout the length of my hair. Last step is to smooth a small amount of Kinky-Curly Curling Custard through the length of my hair, then let it either air-dry or blow dry on low speed / low heat if I'm in a hurry.

This combination seems to be exactly what my hair needs right now -- I get soft, shiny, touchable, fairly frizz-free waves -- and best of all, the results are very consistent.

Glad we have a 2b gathering place!!

I am just now getting the hang of Jessicurl products and I am loving them; so, I better hold off on trying the Kinky-Curly Curling Custard. Although, now I really want to try that too

Maybe what we 2b's need to do is swap each other samples of the products we want to try before we buy them. Anyone have any thougts on this? If there is interest maybe we could start a new "swap" thread here.

Hi!

I am another 2b wavy! I am not really doing the CG thing. I am currently washing every few days with diluted Aquage shampoo and follow with Aquage detangler. I have tried Jessiecurl but I found it to be too oily for my hair. Maybe I am using too much. I do like her microfiber towel though.

Currently, for styling I am using a very small amt of paul mitchell's "the cream" as a leave in after towel drying with micro towel. I then scrunch and then finish with Paul Mitchel's sculpting foam and air dry. So far, I am doing pretty well with the foam. Before that I was using KMS curl up which I also like.

Thanks for all of the great ideas. I want to try the honey rinse and I am considering trying the Jessiecurl again. The main problem I have is a lack of volume at the roots. I will try using clips as some of you have suggested. Any additional input is greatly appreciated.

For those of you that have used the deva clips....... what are they exactly? Are they different from other clips you can get at the drug store?

I hope you do try the honey rinse. It is such a natural, cheap thing to do that is wonderful for your hair all around. Let us know how it works for you. You might want to try the Apple Cider Vinegar rinse too.

Somewhere on this board I think I posted how I get lift at my roots. Take a look at that sometime for ideas on lift from several curlies. I do have clips; but, not the deva clip. I can't use them or I get dents in my hair . My understanding is that they are pretty much the same thing. Hopefully someone that has them can anwer that question for us.

I would like to know more about your hair as well as your routine.

2b/3a, primarily use Jessicurl and DevaCurl products, Curls Hair Tea conditioner and various gels. I'm modified CG-ish since 5/04.
I haven't had time to go through everyone's responses yet, but my hair sounds like kjwavy's. I need to shampoo every day in the summer. CG did not work for me (despite many attempts), and the only jessicurl product that works for me is the awe inspiralling spray. The only product that works for me consistntly is Ouidad's Climate Control, but I still get some frizz at this time of year.

I would love to get some advice on how to make things work better.

kjwavy: when you shampoo and condition, what do you use?
Hi csb I change my routine a lot as far as my products, but I usually poo/condition the same way every day.

For my first lather, I use a poo like Nizoral, Head & Shoulders, Kenra Clarifying, or Nexxus Biotin. I massage my scalp with my fingertips for a good 30 seconds or so. I then rinse really well standing under the shower head.

I mainly use conditioner as a detangler, so I pretty much use whatever I have in the shower at the time. I've been loving a shea conditioner & shampoo from an etailer (Soaps & Scrubs), so after I've rinsed the first poo out of my hair, I use about a quarter sized blob of shea conditioner mixed in my palm with a quarter sized blob of honey. I apply this to the lower 3/4 to 1/3 of my hair. I then lather up my scalp & roots with some of the shea poo, again massaging for maybe 15 seconds or so, then pile the whole mess on top of my head while I finish my shower.

I then rinse all of the shea poo, conditioner, & honey out of my hair. I gently squeeze the water out with my hands, then apply a dime sized blob of Elucence MBC to the length of my hair as a leave-in.

I've never been one to use a leave-in AT ALL, but I'm finding the Elucence to be wonderful!! I think with the heat & humidity we're having here in TX, along with the highlights I had done in the spring, my hair really needed some moisture

Thanks, kjwavy! Sounds like you have a much more complex routine than I'm used to, but I tend to try to keep things as simple as possible. (Hence my obsession with find a single styler.) Currently, I'm on a Ouidad routine: Playcurl shampoo every other day, Curl Quencher Conditioner every other day, rinse on the off days, and use Climate Control every day. Sometimes I shampoo and condition every day, but I get less frizz on the off days. Maybe I need to think about things more...
Just an aside: finally looked at your pictures, kjwavy, and our hair really is similar. In fact, before I cut mine off I had a really similar haircut and loved it. (The stylist I had that gave me that cut moved to Ohio, and I have been suffering ever since. That was 10 years ago.) Anyway, my hair is much shorter (sigh), and darker, but VERY similar in texture. Your hair looks beautiful. I think I'm just too lazy to figure out how to use a lot of the great products that are out there. I still would love to keep track of what works for you.
Hi 2b's! I have been gone from NC.com for a couple months
Good to see you! I have been gone awhile too! mostly on LHC keeping me motivated to reach my goal (mid-back to waist). Almost there! past bsl now.
