Thank goodness

I hope this new board works out. I get all excited about a topic, then look back and found out everyone is a 3a/b. I love my curly hair and "disappointed" I am not a 3a/b. But I am very close to finding my HG products (see below) and just got my first devachan "certified" haircut in st louis. It has only been one day, so I will save my review until I have had a chance to see the results. Hope lots of wavies chime in

I know how you feel, Cunningham- I feel left out of the general boards, too sometimes. It's worse for me because there are hardly any women in this site with my hair. Plenty of 2A wavies, but not many with hair as thin as mine with such a weak wave. Glad you're close to your HG, and I definitely want to hear about your Devachan experience. I,too long for more curl, but I don't see it happening. I have mostly"sidewinder" waves, so they don't convert to spirals very easily. Ah, well, I'm learning to like what I have!

2A very thin- think baby hair. CG wavy routine since 2/05. Liking HE Humidity Defy gel, Pantene spray gel. Still trying to kick my hair spray habit!
Check my posts. I just did a devachan certified post.

thanks, cunningham. I think there is a "certified" salon sort of near me( closer than NYC, anyway!) I was debated saving my pennies and convincing my DH to take a trip to NYC later in the year, but now maybe I'll consider going someplace closer. Thing is, I have some point blank questions that I've wanted to ask Lorrainne about. She's very down on hairspray(I know it's drying), but my hair is very thin and fly- away. I can't just scrunch out the wave- my hair just looks stringy and dirty. I windup combing it (gasp!) and then using as little hairspray to restore wave and hold it in place. Iwant to ask her what the heck I am supposed to do? Most of her recs seem to apply to gals with much more defined curl and nice, thick hair. I'd appreciate feedback from this board,as well. When I posted this ? on another post, no one had an answer!

Barely a curl. My hair is pretty thick as is my daugthers so I am not much help for you, but, my husband has baby fine hair that can get oily. His is pretty curly though, not like us wavies. For the fineness he uses a volumizing mist at his roots and uses gel. He has also been using my AG re:coil and having good hold with that.

Not much, but, I hope I helped a little bit

I've had the same problem also. I never thought they could pry the hairspray out of my hands. Take the hair dryer, take the brush, take the shampoo! But not the hairspray! But my hair has taken a turn. I walk the line between frizzy and greasy. However, I currently use no poo (m&H co wash in between) and aloeba. Scrunch gel in soaking wet hair, scrunch with microfiber towel, THEN spray hair with aloeba mixed 1/2 & 1/2 with water as a leave in. I refused to believe my fine hair needed MORE gel and a leave in condish, but I suggest to keep experimenting with it!

Thanks, gals. I didn't respond quickly cuz I was out of town. I have considered re:coil, Kim- have either of you tried Jessicurl RR or gelebration as well? Any opinions about which is better for thin hair? I have to limit my products to one at a time- I'm on a budget.

Hi Everybody. Hadn't been here for awile, so didn't notice we have our own area now. I love it! I agree with you, Barelyacurl. People with hair like ours seem to be few and far between. Mine is also baby-fine and flyaway. Some days it is almost completely straight. If I use gel it looks stringy and wet. I hate that look!

I have used Gelebration and RR. Can't decide which one is better for my hair, even though the Gelebration is supposed to be for fine hair. I guess I like the products, but still can't really decide what works best for my hair.

I've actually never been to Traverse City. I guess it is beautiful. I'm about 400 miles from there.

UP LISA,
YOU"RE BACK! I'm so glad! Haven't seen your posts in a while- I was wondering what happened and how you're doing!
About Jessicurl- on her web site she recommends combining gelebration and awe inspiring in a spray bottle for fine hair. ( I think- you might need to check the questions section on her site.) Do you like her products? I'm concerned about them being too heavy for me- I'm thinner than you.
BTW, I'm glad we have our own section, even if I still feel like no one has hair like mine. My current struggle is with trying to give up hair spray.
nothing seems to be working, and I'm getting frustrated. Without it, my hair is too flyaway, or too flat.

2A very thin, very fine. Think baby hair. Wavy CG routine since 2/05. Current faves: suave, vo5, Nexxus ensure, HE HDG, Pantene curl scrunching spay gel.
Hi Barelyacurl! I never really left, just have too much to do, too many places to be.

I've never really used hairstray except when my hair was short and I used to curl the front with a curling iron. It would never hold the curl without a lot of spray. I always hated it, though. But I sure know what you mean about flyaway. I have hairs that always come around and get in my mouth. Drives me crazy!

I'm sure Gelebration wouldn't be too heavy for you. What are you using to wash and/or condition? Even some of the cheap conditioners are too heavy for my hair. Hard to rinse out, and leave it weighed down.

Still experimenting myself. It's been hot here, and I haven't even been using any products. Just tying it back. Can't stand hair on my face when it's hot!

Hey Lisa,
I've been busy, too. NC.com can be addictive! I use a daily conditioner, but haven't found a leave-in that works for me. Most are too sticky or leave my hair greasy. I feel like I need a daily conditioner because My hair is so thin I have a problem with tangling. My problem seems to arise after drying. I can't just "scrunch out the crunch" because then I'm just left with the stringy, wet look that we hate so much. When I comb out, that disrupts my waves, and then the fly aways come. My hair also falls flat and the wave dies. I, too have been wearing my hair up alot. I bend and move alot at work, and it just gets in the way-unless I spray it, of course! oh well, it's only hair, right?

2AFi baby hair,basically.
I know what you mean about the stringy, wet look. I get that all the time. To prevent damage I basically stopped combing or brushing my hair awile back. I just use my fingers. So that doesn't help with the stringy look at all. But I'll deal with it because I'm trying to grow my hair long, and I get so much damage from combing. Even with a seamless comb, I can just hear the hairs breaking.

I try to keep it from drying out, and it hasn't been tangling too badly. As long as I don't let it blow in the wind. That is a big no no!

Hi barelyacurl & UP Lisa

Have y'all ever tried scrunching in mousse instead of using gel? In the cooler drier weather, my hair tends to straighten out & gel just seems to make it stringy looking.

I've found that mousse can be drying, but I always use it over a cream such as BTZ Noodlehead (this winter, it will be AG Re:coil), & it doesn't seem as crunchy as w/o a cream.

I agree, though, it takes a TON of experimentation to find out what YOUR hair likes, since our hair is all so different

2b~~fine texture~~normal porosity (except for highlights, which are high)~~normal elasticity~~medium density

Shampoo: Still use sulfates, but only on roots
Rinse out: Deva One C, JC Too Shea, Original Sprouts Deep Conditioner
Curl Enhancers: KCCC; JC Rocking Ringlets, JC Spiralicious, & Confident Coils
Styler: BRHG (over any and all curl enhancers) - this is the one product that I never change - absolute HG!!

This last week, I have been really happy with POTAR gel. It has medium hold and no "crunch." I recently discovered plopping and then pixiecurl diffusing (see my 2b thread). The combination of the three, keeps me from needing hairspray. A spritz of 1/2 conditioner & 1/2 distilled water in a small spray bottle gets rid of frizz. Also use awe inspiring. Didn't know about gelebration & awe--and I thought I read her whole website!

I used to use mousse when my hair was permed, but I haven't been using it anymore since it's supposed to be drying. I may go back to it, though, since I don't seem to have much luck with gels. And I've always heard that mousse was better for fine hair.

The mousse tends to give me more volume

Well, I'm still looking for a good leave-in for me. I would think that would help, though.
