Default What is your washing routine?

I am curious to see how often and what wavies use for washing. I am trying to figure this out for my own hair right now and would like some input.

The products I have to use are HCC, Suave M&K Conditioner and CON detangling shampoo. Also, if you don't mind I would like you to answer this question as well: If you were me and had somewhat dry hair, what would you do with the above products?

I wash about every 3 days in the summer. I alternate my washing between HCC, Suave Coconut and Deva No or Low Poo. I can go up to 5 days without washing in the winter.

On the days in between I try for 2nd or 3rd day hair and if that doesn't work then I'll wet it down again, condition it and rinse and put products in, just without washing my scalp or putting cond on my scalp.

If your hair is dry I would try CO washing for a little while. I started out trying that and got my hair much healthier. My problem at the beginning was I wasn't massaging the conditioner in well enough or for long enough and I started to get greasy roots. As long as you do it right, it should work for you and start to get your hair happy and healthy. If you notice it starts to get gunky or heavy or oily feeling, use HCC that day. hth

Default shampooing

I shampoo about twice a week, usually with VO5 or Neutrogena T/Gel, then I use a detangler that Wal-mart is getting rid of John Frieda beachblonde, then I put Herbal Essence Mousse on then I comb through it. My hair if fine and when I don't use the mousse I get the poodle look.

I wash every 2-3 days using either MBS, HCC or ACV rinse. I am trying to work it out where I only use the MBS once or twice a week and alternate the HCC or ACV rinse in between. On days I don't cleanse I either just condition the ends and rinse or CO wash, depending on how my hair looks and feels. Starting out just washing every other day really helped my hair in the beginning. I was so used to using shampoo everyday that skipping a day was all I could bring myself to do. Maybe you could use the CON then M&H then HCC then M&H then CON again. Or switch around the CON and the HCC. At some point you may be able to go two days, or more, between using CON or HCC. Sorry I can't remember how often you wash now, my brain is fried. HTH

Depends on the weather. Now that hot weather has begun in central Texas, I like to wash my hair daily. I use shampoo once or twice a week, and CO wash the rest of the time.

My hair tends to be dry so when I do use shampoo, I put conditioner on the ends first to protect them. Does your Suave condish have protein in it? If so, you might want to alternate it with one that's moisturizing.

I shampoo almost daily. Yeah, I know. I can go without shampoo for 2 days MAX, but that is it. My hair is in pretty good condition anyhow. I make up for my shampoo habits in DTs.

I wash every second day. I probably could do 3 days without a problem, except I am trying to grow my bangs, so I straighten them(cause I look really stupid with curly bangs on my forehead ) This means they get oily from my face, I have oily skin, so I need to wash every 2 days. Hopefully when the bangs are long enough to get them out of my face I will be abe to do third day hair.

Anyway........Enough rambling about bangs I co wash every 2 days. Sometimes I wash with Cream Of Nature Shampoo instead of co & follow with Elucence MBC. I wash with Elucence Moisture Benefits Shampoo once a week. I plan to clarify once a month or so with Elucence Volume Clarifying Shampoo.

Thanks for all of your replies. My hair is a great deal better since I found you all.....but, it is hard finding the right balance of everything.
I think I have a handle (somewhat) on conditioners, DT, and products.....for now anyway , but, I need to figure out the shampoo thing.

I am thinking that I am going to follow kimmyc's advice (which always seems to work for me :dance:dance.gif ) and Susan's advice and wash as often as I can with Suave M&K conditioner and rotate in the HCC and CON as needed. I also will do an ACV rinse weekly too. When should I do the ACV rinse in relationship to a DT?

I am also going to do the same thing as Skywatcher and Elucence Volume Clarifying Shampoo monthly to get rid of hard water deposits etc. Skywatcher - Growing out bangs is a pain in the a$$ Do you use cute little pins to pin them back? That is what I did

Don't worry Susan, I can't remember half of what I did to my hair the day before, how can I expect you to remember?

Ava79 - I wish I could wash my hair everyday like you, but, my hair is a damaged wreck and still mad at me for all the abuse I gave it. I am being nicer to it now and it is just beginning to forgive me

Bunniee23 - I don't think Suave M&H has protein in it. Does anyone know the answer to this question? After I co wash with it, I do a honey rinse & use EMB. Would that work?

rrandall - thanks for letting me know your routine What do you do on the days you don't wash? My hair is not fine, but, the image of the poodle look I can relate too (bad perm at age 15 )

Thanks again and TIA for posting to my new questions

Kimberly

I wash mine everyday. Somehow when I get it wet, it just feels like it needs it. Probably because I use so much gel and/or spray to get the top to do what I want .

I use either Suave Humectant or VO5 MM Strawberries and Cream to wash it with. I mix in some jojoba oil or if it's itchy some epsom salt. I just got Elucence the other day, so that's my conditioner. I mix it with honey to rinse.

It is terribly hard, but somehow fun in a weird sort of way, to try to find what works.

Anytime Kimberly! I liked Susan's advice too and that's kind of what I do. I'll use HCC then Suave coconut then Deva Low Poo then Suave then No Poo then Suave. I'll get the conditioner wash in as much as I can and if it feels dirty or oily then I'll use one of the others.

Last summer I did have to use a clarifying shampoo a few times because my hair just got built up and blah. I actually bought the Elucence clarifier and liked it. It didn't seem drying at all.

Good luck figuring your routine out.

1228kimberly, the Suave M&H does have milk protein, but if your hair isn't getting crunchy from it you should be fine. Using honey and a moisturizing conditioner like Elucence after the M&H is a good idea.

List of ingredients for the M&H condish:

INGREDIENTS: Water (Aqua), Cetyl Alcohol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (Buxus Chinensis), Tocopheryl Acetate [Vitamin E Acetate], Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Barbadensis) Gel [Aloe Vera], Honey (Mel) Extract, Hydrolyzed Milk Protein, Cetrimonium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Potassium Chloride, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, 2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1, 3-Diol, Propylene Glycol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazzolinone, Yellow 6 (Cl 15985), Green 3 (Cl 42053).

I am glad you liked the Elucence clarifier too. Always makes me feel better when me and my hair relate to the people recommending things

And thanks for wishing me luck; I think I might need it. I have trouble sticking to one thing so I am trying all sorts of different things and products

Good to know; thank you Maybe I should read the bottle on products (I do but the all seem to blur together after awhile)

I wash mine everyday w/shampoo. I guess I do a WCW, wash-condition-wash type deal. I wash my whole head with a clear type of shampoo (SLES), then I put conditioner mixed with honey on the lower 2/3 & comb that through to detangle. Then I take a shea poo & massage my scalp & roots really well. Then I pile the whole mess on top of my head while I finish my shower. I then rinse everything out upside.

I can do 2nd day hair in the cooler weather, but I don't during the summer, because I'm afraid my scalp will get stinky It's just so blasted hot here, ya know

I shampoo every third day (shooting for 4 with M&H and new Low Poo). Just switched from Jason, to HCC, to Low Poo. I also discovered I don't massage enough (I have excema on my scalp that tells me when I don't scrub enough! I used to think that meant I needed more T-gel). Do M&H on other days when I need it. Throw ACV in there about twice a week (hard water.) Honey rinse everyday before conditioner (aloeba or one condition.) Don't give up. There are an endless number of combinations. I have been breaking the cardinal rule of only one change at a time, so you can tell what made the difference. I was too excited about devacurl products My current problem is crunch from ouidad gel.....but that's another thread!

I co wash everytime I shower. I mix a few together depending on what my hair needs. Right now I'm generally using American Crew Daily Co + Citrus Smoothie or another Suave co. I have quite a Suave collection now since they were on sale the other day. I love Milk and Honey for when my hair is feeling dry or to make my Giovanni 50/50 last longer. I'm also loving MangoPeach with my last co because it smells great.
Whenever my hair seems to need it, I add a little Avalon Organics Mango Awaphui 'Poo and/or CoN regular to my washing co mix. I throw an ACV rinse on occasionally when I think I need it too.

I wash everyday - sort of. I use No Poo most days and Low Poo 2x/week. I also use One Conditioner every day on the ends. I tried using One Conditioner to wash once, and the curl fell out of my hair literally within 5 minutes. I also try to ACV rinse 1/wk. I've not really done too much on the deep treatment side of things.

My hair is still way too frizzy, so I'm not sure what I"ll try next.

I missed this thread before, so here goes:
I wash once a week with either Low-Poo or HCC, and once a week with No-Poo or SacRed No-Poo, then I co-wash the rest of the time with Suave Nat. Trop.Coconut or Mango &Peach.

I wash my hair everyday, it hasn't dried out because I put biosilk and alcohol free mousse on it. Also, I leave the conditioner on for a longer amount of time.
In the winter I would let it go for 1 or 2 days.
