Default my hair is schizophrenic

As you can see in my sig line, I have 2C/3A on my canopy -- very frizzy, unpredictable, bane of my existence, etc. But the bulk of my hair underneath is totally silky, well-behaved 2A hair. Lately, probably because of my hair length, it's become quite annoying to have schizophrenic hair. I have to treat the two parts differently, and frankly I can't decide if I want to de-emphasize the curls on top or coax the waves into tighter waves. *SIGH* Can anyone else empathize?

i can definitely empathise with the "bane of my existence" part! - my hair's a bit different [don't really have much 2A..i think]. a stylist once cut out the 3A strands off my hairline so that i could have a fringe; the next stylist couldn't get it after it'd grown out. everything's been thinned and 'frizzed'.

for you, i think i'd actually pick the one that requires less work [but that still has a nice result] i'm too low-maintenance!

I can definitely relate! I think I have all my many ethnic backrounds scattered throughout my hair.
I have 2a/b hair on my underneath most layer..completely silky, somewhat fine, wavy hair. Than I have some hair over that which is coarse and only usually wants to wave up but sometimes it curls. Than I always have a layer of 3a curls on top that curl up nicely in big loose curls. I even have a few pieces bordering on 3b hair sometimes! I usually don't worry about it, since my top curly hair and the pieces around my face are curly and the underneath hair barely is noticed. This type of hair can be so frustrating and unpredictable though.
I use the same products on all my hair but I'll use more conditioner on my canopy since it's more prone to dryness. A cold rinse upside down in the shower with gentle shaking seems to help it form clumps, making it more uniform hair...and a good gel helps keep it clumpy, and plopping with a microfiber towel also seems to help.
Does anyone else relate or have any suggestions?

*raises hand and jumps up and down* My hair does this too! The underside is silky and 2A, sometimes even pretty much straight. The outer layer is a 2C, sometimes even bordering on 3A.

Have you tried diffusing the under layers with the pixiecurl method, maybe? It can help a bit. And so can drying your hair with your head upside-down, because the outer layers of hair aren't pressing the underlayers flatter.
