Amount of product used if you don't shampoo

If you don't shampoo, or only shampoo with conditioner instead of shampoo, how often do you re-add product? Do you add hairspray or gel or mousse every morning or after every shower, even if you haven't thoroughly shampooed the old stuff out?

I wash with conditioner alone every day, and only shampoo once a week, but I feel kinda gross piling on product without a thorough shampoo in between. Then again, if I sleep on my hair after I've put product in, it's going to go all flat and lose the waves from sleeping on it.

Rinsing with water and conditioning should remove all of the product. I shampoo every 4 days, rinse and condition daily, and run 3-4 days per week. Have faith--it gets your hair clean. Try it. That's why the ingredients of your co and styling products are so important. Any styling product too harsh, will not rinse out. I thought not shampooing every day was gross at first, but my curls/hair have never looked so good

If the styling products that you are using are CG friendly, then co-washing or washing with a non or low-sulfate cleanser should get them out just fine. But if you are using products that have more silicones or other ingredients that build up, then co-washing won't get them out as well.

Malory, let me chime in here- I didn't believe the Co wash would get my hair clean at first, either. My scalp is so oily, I could single handedly decrease our dependence on foreign oil! However, lushaholic and kimmyc gave me the secret-- use ALOT of condish, really massage well, and leave it to sit on your scalp at least 2-3 minutes. This really works! I can get out all my product and oil, although I do have to co wash every day(no 2nd day hair for me!

) Of course, cunningham makes a good point- I am silicone free, and I don't use alot of heavy oils. Hang in there!

I do condition wash to get the oil out of my hair, and it does keep my hair from getting greasy, but I wasn't sure about product. I hate having product build up in my hair, because it starts to flake off and it looks like I have dandruff.

Also if you wash your hair in the evening, do you add your product after you wash it, when your hair is still damp, or wait till the morning, or add some in the evening and some again in the morning?

If I shower at night, I add product, then refresh with lavendar spray (cg book) or JC awe to reactivate product.

If I wash at night then I still add my products at night, but I usually have to add a little something in the morning, depending on how it looks of course.
