Default Combing?

I know combing your hair pulls out the curl but I have to comb because my hair is all tangled on the top after CO washing. Am I doing something wrong? I try to towel dry and be gentle but it is still tangled on top.

Anytime I wash I try to slip my fingers into my hair from underneath the hair and massage my scalp that way. I think it helps as far as any tangling. Also my hair used to get caught in the terry towels sometimes so I now use a microfiber towel for my hair and it's great! Very absorbent and causes less frizz. A t-shirt works good too.
