2a scalp with 3a hair?

Hi all! I am new to the site. A friend tipped me off to CG and I jumped right in! Having had "curly" hair all my life, and knowing that when cut well my hair has lots of body and curl to it, I went in for the boticelli routine. A week later my hair was weighed down and lifeless and way overconditioned. I was using natural organic conditioner with no cones. I did the lemonaid treatment with great results but then a few days later--same story. Tried a lighter conditioner, no luck. My hair was oily and too soft to curl. I got my hair cut by a good, curly-headed stylist who listened to my routine and supported it about three days into the cg routine.

My thought is that my scalp is more like a wavy-girl or 2a, but my hair tends to have more curl to it than a 2. Last night I bought IO rosemary and mint shampoo and conditioner for fine/oily hair, both are cone free and detergent free. The shampoo uses a coconut-based lather instead of the sulf products. I put conditioner on the bottom half of my hair and then shampooed just the scalp and roots. My hair is more dry than it was on plain cg routine and frizzed a bit today, but it feels so much cleaner. I use Garnier fruit essence curl booster spray gel and use the twist and clip for a little bit while my hair is drying, then use a diffuser. I spritz with my own concoction based on the lavender spritz from cg--it's peppermint and tea tree oil in water--during the day to liven the curls up.

I guess what I'm asking is, does anyone else have this kind of hair? Is it worth ordering in Jessicurl or Devacurl products? My hair is baby fine and I have lots of it. Normal conditioners and gels weigh it down.

Thanks for any help! It's helped me to just get down my frustration!

Love!

I don't have the same type of hair that you do but when I was first starting out trying CG I had a hard time with my scalp too.

I think you may like Jessicurls Hair Cleansing Cream. It's a nice gentle cleanser (sulfate free, not real sudsy) that really keeps my scalp clean. Her Aloeba is a nice light conditioner also. And she has Gelebration which is a curl enhancing spray gel, also not heavy.

You should try a sampler pack. Also, I just started out by washing less and slowly it's gotten to be even less. I wanted to be CG but it just didn't work for me in the beginning so I've just learned to do what works for me and whatever my hair wants that day. I guess I'd call myself modified CG but my hair is a whole lot healthier than it used to be, that much I know! :)

Thanks!

Thanks so much for your reply. One of my housemates has curly hair and we are going in on the Jessicurl pack with 8 full size products for like $80. Her hair is more coarse and thicker than mine, so she'll probably take the Shea stuff and the heavier curl enhancer, can't remember the name. I'll try the cleansing cream, Aloeba, and Gelebration.

So the dry frizzy thing didn't go away with the EO rosemary and mint stuff. My new system is using the rosemary and mind conditioner, mixed with water and a couple of drops of shampoo on my scalp, and then using the EO honey and chamomille conditioner. I leave the conditioner on for five minutes or so, rinse it out completely, and then after the shower and squeeze dry, I spray some diluted honey and chamomille as a leave in. I've gotten rid of the Garnier and now I use a little bit of KMS Curl Up, scrunch and dry with a diffuser, and then some DRHG diluted with water and vegetable glycerine to a really thin consistency. So far, so good! The two gels are so heavy for me, I have to dilute them, so I'm looking forward to trying the Jessicurl.

Love!

I really love Jessicurl! I hope you and your roomie like them too. Let us know what you think. :)

Ember,

I can sympathize. I've decided to post on the 2a board instead of 3a because my hair is much thinner than most (from looking at their pictures). I've tried some of the 3a gel recommendations and they are usually to heavy for my hair. I do better with the lighter products or mixing the heavier/stronger gels with lighter products.

I have not used any of the Jessicurl or Deva products yet. I have so much stuff already and nothing seems to get the same results twice. Plus some of these products are so expensive with shipping, and then you are unhappy .

I thought going with the flow of my natural wavy/curly hair would be easier not harder, but it is so frustrating when your hair won't look the same way twice. I love the way it looks maybe once a week, but can't repeat it. And I spend way too much time looking at it and messing with it.

Oh, that was a bit of a rant there....sorry....I'm just having a "I hate my hair day."
