need shampoo/cond. recs for 2C/3A hair

my hair does not like anything heavy and seems to like more salon stuff.
Hi, I'm 2c/3a as well.

I love Suave Coconut condish but that's obviously not from a salon...

What are you currently using? Is your hair fine? Mine is.

I'm still searching for a good CG shampoo, so I can't help you there.

I have thin/fine 2b-c/3a hair. For conditioners, I use: Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose, AO White Camellia, AO GPB, Kinky Curly Knot Today (as a rinse out only), and Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner (lightweight spray). None of them are salon products, but I'm so thrilled about it. I used Aveda exclusively for 9 years, and I love being able to buy 11 ounces of AO conditioner for $10.

I haven't found many salon products that are silicone-free. Are you CG?
Loose botticelli curls and waves
No silicones/no sulfates since March 2008
I use the Mastey Triate shampoo. It is sls free and very moisturizing.
I've really been liking ShiKai Everyday shampoo and conditioner. The poo is sulfate free, but is still pretty strong so I have to be careful to use it sparingly. The conditioner is awesome - really moisturizing w/o being heavy. I also second the recommendation for AOHR. I use AOHR about once a week (too heavy otherwise) and use the ShiKai as my "everyday" co.

HTH!

I really liked FuzzyDuck condish before I used up my sample. I've haven't tried the shampoo, but I think people like it. They are available from curlmart or direct from fuzzyduckhair.com.

Before I went on the CG routine I was using Samy (loaded wth SLS and cones) shampoo and alternating with non-SLS, non-cone Avalon Organics. I recommend the latter's shampoos, but NOT their conditioners (which oddly enough, have dimethicone). I'm using Aubrey Organics GBP shampoo, which cleans fine, no SLS or unnatural ingredients at all - but I LOATHE the smell. LOATHE. It smells like vomit. Even after I put 20 drops of lavender oil in the bottle. Yuch. I don't use the GPB conditioner (also stinks a bit but not even half as bad as the shampoo) on a regular basis, it's too heavy for my hair that way, so I use it as a DT very occasionally. I used to use Aubrey Organics Chamomile Volumizing shampoo which smelled very nice and did clean the hair but it took some getting used to for me (it's very liquidy and runny). When I washed with SLS I felt like it didn't really clean the hair. When I used it after a week or two of CG it cleaned the hair magnificently but dried it out. Aubrey Organics is a good brand for shampoos IMO, but they are way too expensive. Giovanni and Avalon Organics are just as SLS and cone free and they come in more drugstores and are much cheaper.

So I recommend:
  • Aubrey Organics shampoos (some smell lovely, but beware the GPB shampoo smells terrible)
  • Avalon Organics shampoo (which has a very mild lather and does a nice job of cleaning. But they also smell very medicinal and unpleasant)
  • I haven't tried it, but I hear very good things about Giovanni shampoos. I'll be trying them next.

2a/2b/2c i & ii. Very frizz prone in front, sides and canopy. Some spiral curls in front on good days. Mixed fine and medium thickness.
I love Jessicurl HCC
I have used it on both my daughters hair (age 5- curly 2c hair, and 8- straight hair) and it works on both it's sulphate free really gentle and leaves their hair soooo soft.

I have started co- washing my 5 year olds hair so don't shampoo her hair at the moment I use Jessicurl Aloeba (also really good but too expensive to use all the time),Johnsons conditioner, and Inecto Coconut oil conditioner but if I was to go back to shampoing it would definatly be Jessicurl HCC
I love Fuzzy Duck. It smells good and works great. Both the shampoo and conditioner, actually.

Also like DevaCare no-poo and low-poo.

Jessicurl Gentle Lather Shampoo.

Jane Carter Solution Shampoo.

Also, Cream of Nature is great. It's sulfate free, but lathers like a regular shampoo, but doesn't tangle my hair up like regular shampoos do.

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.
VO5 Vanilla Mint, maybe, or VO5 Kiwi-Lime Squeeze
Are you CG? My products are not, but I find I've had luck with Beyond the Zone's Noodlehead (before the mag sulf got to my hair....yours may not be sensitive) and L'Oreal Nutrigloss for curly hair. HE Hello Hydration wasn't half bad either.

I'm pretty much in love with Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat whatever it's called. Not ridiculously expensive, although my husband and I both use it do it's going quick, easy to find (available at both the Ulta and the grocery store I visit), smells freaking awesome.
"And politically correct is the worst term, not just because it’s dismissive, but because it narrows down the whole social justice spectrum to this idea that it’s about being polite instead of about dismantling the oppressive social structure of power.
Fun Fact: When you actively avoid being “PC,” you’re not being forward-thinking or unique. You’re buying into systems of oppression that have existed since before you were even born, and you’re keeping those systems in place."
Stolen.
Uhm, remember when I suggested Nutrigloss? Totally scratch that. The shampoo has d-cone as it's 3rd or 4th ingredient and it turned my hair into a cotton candy mess! I'm still enjoying the conditioner though.
