HOORAY FOR THE RETURN OF MY PIPE-CURLS!

Modified CG 8-8-08

I clean with: burt's bees pomegranate or giovanni tea trea, or baking soda rinse
co-wash:Suave naturals aloe
conditioner:same or suave naturals coconut or burts bees pomegranate conditioner
styler:Herbal essences body envy gel or garnier fructise spray curl gel. Plus soft and sheen(think it's called) oil treatment
I'm not modified. I think it depends on your hair.

I lent my CG book out but I thought it says that most wavies benefit from a low or no-poo. I found that lemon and baking soda rinses were enough for me the few times I thought I might need a shampoo.

cg just wasn't working for me so I went to use what i thought was a safe-poo but apparently it makes up for the lack of sulfates with cones! Anyways, what's a low-poo? Can you find good ones locally (drugstore) or do you have to get them online? And would soap work on hair? I thought it'd be drying?

There are milder sulphates (which I of course cannot remember the name of) than some of the standard ones. I believe that is what she meant by low poo. And no poo would of course be one with no sulphates. As I said I don't have my book so I can't validate that for you.

There's been a lot of posts for soap bars lately that might some information for you. Also at one point she mentioned face soap as not having the same harsh detergents so it might be an option - albeit a fairly costly one. The only shampoos I'm aware of in my area that are no poo are one of the AG's and Burt's Bees.

Whatsercurl is right, the CG handbook says that wavies can use a little low sulphate shampoo OVER hair that is coated with conditioner. How often you choose to do this is a personal choice of course.

I tried Trader Joes Castille Soap (with olive, coconut and peppermint oils plus aloe vera)over my conditioner. Most of the time I use Deva's No-Poo. Just get the 32oz for more value. I actually thought the Low poo felt more greasy on my hair and it didn't really benefit from it at all. Sometimes I coat with No-Poo and use a little castille soap over it and that works fine too. My new goal is to go 3 days without washing, now that I've simplified my product usage. I was doing every other but I really do lose more wave the more often I wash.

Hi there --

The AO shampoo in my signature doesn't have sulfates, and it's widely available (healthfood stores, Trader Joe's, I might have even seen it at Target). It lathers with cocamidopropyl betaine (sp?)

I still have this vague sense that it might be slightly drying, but I'm not sure..... maybe my hair just feels drier on the days I shampoo because the natural oils haven't built up. But if you're having trouble finding sulfate-free shampoos, you might be able to find this one.

Wurly and proud!
