Routine - Upside down or right side up?

I'm wondering how all of you apply your styling products. Do you do it upside down or right side up? Do you comb/brush your hair first?
Type: Course & thick. According to everyone's input, 2c w/ 3a potential.
Color: Brown w/ highlights & annoying grays which I color.
Length: Past shoulders w/ layers.
Issues: Dryness, knots & more dryness!
Poo: Deva Lo-Poo 1 x week, Clarify 1-2 x month
CO Wash: Suave Tropical Coconut (but looking for something else b/c I suspect protein issues)
Condish: GVPCB, LVPNG
Leave-Ins: Was loving KBB Milk & Nectar, but overused them. Usually just leave-in some of what I CO with.
Styling: Biolage Gelee
I only comb in the shower with conditioner in. As far as applying product I do it upside down and then a little side to side. Here is a great video on how to apply product the mysteryflavored way. HTH

I love that video. And what I would do for her natural separation/clumping at the roots. Problem is my hair is so much longer and it all just fuses together at the canopy. It seems when I apply product upside down I end up with too much hair in the front. Like it all comes forward if that makes any sense.

I apply my products upside down first and spend most of my time upside down. I scrunch it right side up only when I'm trying to fix pieces that are messed up when I go from upside to right side up. A majority of my scrunching is done upside down.

My hair hates being upside down. It gets all funky at the roots, so I part it while it's soaking wet, then apply gel with the side to side mysteryflavored method. I even devised a right side up plop, and I diffuse right side up.
2c-Coarse and Porous.
Experimenting with products right now.

My routine:
Low poo for scalp
Condition using icequeen method
rake in gel at scalp
scrunch with microfiber towel
scrunch in more gel side to side
pixiecurl diffuse side to side
SOTC

My hair hates:
Upside down diffusing
Upside down Plopping
Protein
I do standing up first, putting product on the canopy of my hair, then flip over and apply upside down, then lean to each side. As my hair dries, I flip upside down and shake my hair a little so that it doesn't dry flat. at the roots.
straight & wavy, thick & coarse
That funky root thing kills me. It's just a mess. I'm going to look up the clipping thing.

I get the funky root thing to if I allow my hair upside down when it's soaking wet. Annoying!!

What I'm doing these days is combing it with conditioner in it in the shower right side up and rinsing the same way. When I get out of the shower I flip my head upside down and shake it out a little (it gets kind of plastered to my head while rinsing), and then scrunch a small amount of gel in upside down. I also scrunch with a MF towel at this point. Then I go about my business for 15 minutes or so, and then I spray some spray gel in my hand and tilt to the side and scrunch in that way. One last scrunch with the towel and I'm done.

But, while I like my results just fine, I don't have the glossy organized looking hair most seem to be after.

One things I've noticed that makes a big difference in my pattern and my volume is if in the shower I comb my straight back instead of down, and rinse the same way (I have to be very careful to keep my hair back instead of down). That certainly makes a difference, but is so time consuming I usually only do it on the weekends.
"And politically correct is the worst term, not just because it’s dismissive, but because it narrows down the whole social justice spectrum to this idea that it’s about being polite instead of about dismantling the oppressive social structure of power.
Fun Fact: When you actively avoid being “PC,” you’re not being forward-thinking or unique. You’re buying into systems of oppression that have existed since before you were even born, and you’re keeping those systems in place."
