Hair Biography

Curl Pattern: 2c
Texture: coarse
Porosity: med (I'm assuming, since I haven't observed either extreme)
Density: thick
Elasticity: high
Characteristics: flat top/no root curl, heavy and lots of it, very prone to "poofing", prone to frizz

CG/ModCG/not CG: ModCG

Hair ingredient likes: haven't noticed anything specific yet
Hair ingredient dislikes: certain alcohols (especially in conditioners)

Hard/Soft Water: neither

HG/Go-to Products: BRHG, HE SMU, LOOB, TIGI MM GTTT shampoo

Average climate/dew points: varies from day to day/season to season(Ontario, Canada)

Fall/Winter combos: I get lazy because of school and usually just wear it up with LOOB, bioterra gel or HE SMU (trying to change that this year)
Spring/Summer combos: LOOB/Homemade jojoba gel, HE SMU and BRHG

Favorite styling techniques and why: putting on product in sections (only way to get all of my hair covered) and pixie-curl diffusing (more curl and quicker drying time)
Techniques that didnít work and why: any upside down-rinsing (gave me skin breakouts and have shied away every since) and scrunching in product (too much hair)

Hair Twins: don't know of any yet
2cCiii
Using: Testing new stuff

Hair Biography

Curl Pattern: 2c
Texture: mixed, mostly coarse
Porosity: med
Density: medium-thick
Elasticity: normal
Characteristics: strong waves root to tip, very resistant to straightening and color, tends to frizz, straight hair underneath at nape.

CG/ModCG/not CG: Not CG, hair seems happier with weekly shampoo. I do avoid silicones and use a Lot of Conditioner.

Hair ingredient likes: Things with a little oil
Hair ingredient dislikes: Some proteins make it like greasy straw, not sure which ones yet.

Hard/Soft Water: hard. Florida well water.

HG/Go-to Products: GFTriple Nutrition. Loreal Glossy Curls Gel.

Average climate/dew points: humid and hot, no idea of dew point.

Fall/Winter combos: Leave in, maybe curl cream, and gel
Spring/Summer combos: Curl cream and gel

Favorite styling techniques and why: Overnight plop 'cause I do not have time to do hair in morning. Raking in gel in sections, then combing w wide tooth comb, before scrunch and plop, for even application and at least a chance at smooth and untangled. If there is time, diffusing most of the way then pineapple and satin cap for sleep works great too.
Techniques that didnít work and why: Washing in morning because it was wet ALL DAY at work. Scrunching in product because it doesn't get on most of the hair, and I end up combing it anyway because it looks tangled and messy.

Hair ingredient likes: Aloe Vera, Avocado, Coconut, protein, shea and cocoa butter, glycerin, biotin, panthenol,
Hair ingredient dislikes: olive oil, BTMS in some products

Hair Biography

Curl Pattern: FIA: 2cFii
Texture: fine/medium
Porosity: medium;high where highlighted
Density: medium
Elasticity: normal;low where highlighted
Characteristics: curlier on the canopy than underneath, gets curlier as it gets longer, forms long stretched out spirals, loves humidity

CG/ModCG/not CG: Mod

Hair ingredient likes: protein, honeyquat, aloe vera, agave nectar, botanical extracts

Hair ingredient dislikes: mineral oil, plastic polymers,

Hard/Soft Water: soft, it's mountain water

Average climate/dew points: dry, dews in winter: teens to low 20's, practically zero at times, dews in summer: ~20-30

Fall/Winter combos: co-wash/leave-in/curl enhancer/holding gel/hair butter to seal in moisture; PT & DT weekly

Spring/Summer combos: co-wash or low-poo/curl enhancer/holding gel; lots of protein

Favorite styling techniques and why: mix fave curl enhancer and gel into a nice cocktail and rake through wet hair; for clumpage add more water then do a mini-plop (use a t-shirt or soft towel to gently press hair to the head to remove excess water without disturbing curls too much); for volume diffuse upside down and scrunch away; Spritz with protein mist or moisture mist when hair needs a pick-me-up; pineapple at night; Flexi-8's for any up-do's including ponytails (doesn't break my hair)
Techniques that didn’t work and why: Air drying only (no volume) Full on plop: I think my hair is too short to plop right now, and my curls look all weird. Clipping my roots: because I'm "clip challenged" and cannot manage to do this without getting all tangled up in the clips. Rinsing upside down: water gets in my nose, and I don't see a difference from when I rinse standing straight up.

Hair Twins: wavy wonder (before the haircut)

Hair Biography

Curl Pattern: 2a/2b/2c, 3a when healthy or when in a more humid climate
Texture: fine/medium
Porosity: medium;high where highlighted
Density: medium
Elasticity: normal;low where highlighted
Characteristics: curlier on the canopy than underneath, gets curlier as it gets longer, forms long stretched out spirals, loves humidity

CG/ModCG/not CG: CG

Hair ingredient likes: aloe vera, panthenol, protein, shea butter, jojoba oil, avocado oil, coconut oil
Hair ingredient dislikes: mineral oil, I think

Hard/Soft Water: soft (I think), it's mountain water

HG/Go-to Products: FSG (my own recipe), Aloe/water spritz, KBB Luscious Locks, the rest is a work in progress

Average climate/dew points: dry, dews in winter: teens to low 20's, practically zero at times, dews in summer: ~20-30

Fall/Winter combos: Suave Naturals/Ion Moisturizing Masque/KBB Hair Milk/FSG (for now)
Spring/Summer combos: work in progress

Favorite styling techniques and why: Smooth conditioner over dry hair, then get in shower and co-wash; rake a ton of gel through when wet; gently scrunch by pressing hair to scalp with microfiber towel (like a mini-plop to absorb excess water and encourage curl); Spritz with aloe/water when hair needs a pick-me-up; pineapple at night; Flexi-8's for any up-do's including ponytails (doesn't break my hair)
Techniques that didnít work and why: Full on plop: I think my hair is too short to plop right now, and my curls look all weird. Curl Pattern: 2c/b
Texture: fine
Porosity: at least medium
Density: dense (2 strands growing out of each follicle, I'm told)
Elasticity: pretty high
Characteristics: flat top, BSL, tends to poof and frizz, longer layers curliest (or more ringletty), s-waves and some spirals/not uniform, tends toward dryness but much improved since finding the right routine and sticking with it

CG/ModCG/not CG: CG

Hair ingredient likes: not sure, just know which products work or don't
Hair ingredient dislikes: WIND! (is that an ingredient?) -- dries it out & makes it frizz and poof

Hard/Soft Water: hard

HG/Go-to Products: Found a local Deva stylist recently who's terrific so now using all Deva: No Poo, One Condish, Arc Angel, SIF, Mirror Curls (for shine and frizz control)
Average climate/dew points: average So Calif. dew pts. but coastal climate can vary drastically from coastal fog to inland dry heat (when good hair days go bad?)

Fall/Winter combos: Products I'm using seem to work year-round but we don't drastic seasonal differences here
Spring/Summer combos: I'll see what happens this summer with the humidity

Favorite styling techniques and why: Ice Queen method! Other than that, pretty classic CG methods-- squeezing dripping wet hair with hands, then immediately scrunch in SIF and Arc AnGEL, blot with t-shirt, clip crown hair with small clips, air dry as long as possible, at least an hour, then minimal pixie diffuse.
Techniques that didnít work and why: plopping, pineapple, too much diffusing makes frizz. The less I mess the better.

Hair Twins: ?? Still looking. (I'll try to post a pic soon, maybe it'll look familiar.)
2C - fine but lots of it, porous.

Hair Biography

Curl Pattern:2aFii
Texture: baby-fine to fine
Porosity: low to low-normal
Density: I have a LOT of hair, but medium ponytail
Elasticity: low
Characteristics: flat top/no root curl, easy to straighten, prone to frizz and lacks volume

CG/ModCG/not CG: mostly CG (occasionally use ApHogee 2-Step) and currently investigating low/no-poos due to hard water

Hair ingredient likes: protein, oils/butter (especially coconut oil and shea butter)
Hair ingredient dislikes: straight olive oil

Hard/Soft Water: hard

HG/Go-to Products: FSG, EcoStyler Krystal. Still working on a HG harder hold gel. La Bella Ultimate Hold has the best hold/root lift, but producty feeling. But your hair will stand up for days...literally.

Average climate/dew points: just moved here to the SE GA coast, but they are like N. FL (humid)

Fall/Winter combos: Still working on this. I either get great volume but more frizz than I want, or shine and no volume nor hold.
Spring/Summer combos: ?

Favorite styling techniques and why: Spritz & Condish; modified icequeen method (for LIs and styling, not in the shower); SSM for products like EcoStyler; pixiecurl diffusing for volume and curl enhancement
Techniques that didn’t work and why: Plopping. I still use it, but that's just because it gets my hair out of my face so I can do my makeup. Air drying is good for my hair's health, but not for root lift.

Hair Twins: Working on it!

Hair Biography

Curl Pattern: 2a, some b?
Texture: fine
Porosity: med
Density: medium
Elasticity: low/normal
Characteristics: flat top/no root curl, easy to straighten or encourage waves, blonde hilights and lowlights in front and crown (natural underneath), weak wave pattern.

CG/ModCG/not CG: Just beginning a ModCG. (last week) I am a total newbie and I read this site every day for help. I am off silicones which is hard for me because I truly miss my Garnier Fructis pomade for finishing. But I hate that it is next to impossible to wash out.

Hair ingredient likes: silicone
Hair ingredient dislikes: silicone

Hard/Soft Water:? I am on city water.

HG/Go-to Products: currently enjoying Live Clean Fresh Water shampoo, Loreal Vive Pro Nutri Gloss/curly hair conditioner, Alberto Moussing Gel/curls, Loreal Studio Architect texturizing wax, Tresemme extra hold hairspray.

Average climate/dew points: humid in summer, dry in winter (Canada)

Fall/Winter combos:
Spring/Summer combos:

Favorite styling techniques and why:Plopping - I just learned about this and it's giving me waves at the roots! But my hair must be VERY wet and have product in it first. Then I diffuse my hair upright but gently so as to not get too frizzy.
Techniques that didnít work and why: Not ready to do the co-wash thing yet, I think I still have to eliminate some hidden silicones. 2nd day hair will never happen for me! I love the idea but my hair is a flattened mess in the morning.

Hair Twins: Would love to find one. I saw kelneran's photo and my hair looks and sounds very similar. Since I am new I need lots of advice and I will be back with questions, thank you!
I am much curlier on top than I am underneath, which apparently is opposite to most people.

Hair Biography
Curl Pattern: 2c
Texture: coarse, finer on top, sides, and near hairline
Porosity: honestly have no idea, probably normal to high
Density: thick
Elasticity: normal
Characteristics: canopy is straighter and finer than the rest. at first i thought it was heat/sun exposure damage, but now i'm pretty sure it's just different hair. i do get some ringlets/clumps underneath. the rest is stringlets.

CG/ModCG/not CG: modified. i co-wash every other day (i do not wet my hair at all on the other days), and low-poo approximately once a week. it just feels best to me. although i really have no idea if i ever truly transitioned. i never went through a greasy period.

Hair ingredient likes: i really don't know any specifics. i honestly haven't experimented enough to know. the way i handle my hair seems to affect it's behavior more so than what i put on it. i do need fairly heavy rinse outs all the time, otherwise my hair is completely unmanageable.
Hair ingredient dislikes: i don't like pvp (don't really care what my hair thinks, lol). it leaves a film on my hands when i touch my hair after using it and i can't stand that. i hate that producty feel with a passion. so i look for gels without it. no brhg for me!

Hard/Soft Water: probably hard, i'm pretty sure it's not soft. no easy lathering or slick feeling on my skin after showering.

HG/Go-to Products: they're all in my sig

Average climate/dew points: well we just moved here this summer (i am literally in the heart of the midwest in northeast kansas), so i'm not sure yet. summers get pretty humid, and winters seem like they are very dry. currently it is 50 degrees with 82% humidity and a dew point of 7.

Fall/Winter combos: so far i haven't changed anything and have had no noticeable problems. i'm not outside much except when running and i don't really care what my hair looks like then, haha. my hair is pretty resilient. it also seems to behave best in drier, low-dew weather.
Spring/Summer combos: i will probably try harder to combat humidity come next spring/summer. i had just gone cg near the end of summer this year so i didn't have too much time to experiment.

Favorite styling techniques and why: not combing my hair and plopping seem to enhance my wave. and i must must must use gel or mousse with decent hold every time i wet my hair. if i go without product my head turns into a disaster zone. i try to air dry as long as i can stand the cold and wetness, then diffuse the rest of the way. i always wash at night, so it must be almost completely dry before i sleep on it.
Techniques that didnít work and why: not really a fan of curl cremes. they seem to mix poorly with my gels and create the dreaded cottage cheese. i don't like a lot of product in my hair anyway so they were easy to give up. combing my hair after showering pulls out my canopy wave, so i don't (unless i'm trying to see how much it's grown). i also have had no success with pineappling, it gives me an awful bend in my canopy, which is no good since that's the hardest part of my hair to get to curl properly.

Hair Twins: the only other person i know with my exact hair is my sister. we are not close, however, so she is neither cg nor on this board, lol. i've seen a few people here with pics that resemble mine, but unfortunately no true twins.
Curl Pattern: Everything from 2a to 2c with some 3 thrown in for good measure...mostly 2C
Texture: fine
Porosity: high
Density: thick
Elasticity: low
Characteristics: dry from color treating, very finicky, have to really encourage curl, curl falls out quickly but not as quick as before, easily straightened but it still looks frizzy. There's a fine line between too long and too short for my curls to look their curliest.

CG/ModCG/not CG: Modified to keep both my hair and scalp happy

Hair ingredient likes: Protein AND moisture, I can use heavy butters, etc, but have to use less of them.

Hair ingredient dislikes: cones, other than the few PEG modified ones in the CJ products I use, only occasional sulfates, castor oil, mineral oil, some glycerines

Hard/Soft Water: more normal now that I've moved!

HG/Go-to Products: Almost Any CJ, SS. Theraneem Shampoo/condish. DB Pumpkin condish. Jessicurl Products. Jelly type curl enhancers that also hold mean no hard hold gel anymore! At least for now. My faves are SSCEJ, UFDCM, KCCC, CJ prods.

Average climate/dew points: four seasons so it's always changing; humid summers with high dews and dry winters (though not as bad as some areas) with low dews. Mid dews almost 1/2 of the year

Fall/Winter combos: A little KCKT and any jelly styler mixed with SSCEJ

Spring/Summer combos: Any combo of CJ, SSCEJ, KCCC, EWSAJ. Sometimes will add a hard hold gel...CJCQ was a HG this summer when I tried it!

Favorite styling techniques and why: clipping/diffusing; great curl enhancement, less time to dry. Plopping is working again since my hair is longer now.

Techniques that didn’t work and why: raking doesn't work I have to scrunch for enhancement

Hair Twins: Goobernut and INVU with a newer addition of Hollandcurl (that's similar to what my hair looked like at the start of my curly journey Hollandcurl) and also asianrunner

Curl Pattern: Fia's 2c/3a with 1c underneath
Texture: mix of fine and medium
Porosity: low to medium
Density: lots of hair, but apparently fine hair compresses to nothing in ponytails
Elasticity: normal
Characteristics: little root curl, easily weighed down, turns into a lion's mane without product, has S waves but ends with 3b spirals--weirdo. Growing out to waist, it's now BSL when curly.

CG/ModCG/not CG: Mod CG, I use a gentle shampoo 2-3 times a week.

Hair ingredient likes: honey, sweet almond oil, FSG, protein, some light cones
Hair ingredient dislikes: not picky

Hard/Soft Water: horribly hard!

HG/Go-to Products: my homemade FSG, henna mixed with senna(=cassia) tea, LVPNG with amodimethicone

Average climate/dew points: continental climate- either too humid or too dry

Fall/Winter combos:FSG alone or a cheapo clear gel with condish left in
Spring/Summer combos: FSG or the same cheapo gel alone

Favorite styling techniques and why:
spritz&condish- softer hair, less frizz and good wave formation
plopping- better waves
Techniques that didn’t work and why: IceQueen method- tangles and bald spots
Super Soaker method- weighed too much, I like big hair

Texture: medium to coarse
Porosity: not sure...maybe normal to high
Density: medium/thick
Elasticity: normal I think
Characteristics: less curl/flatter on top, easily weighed down, prone to surface frizz, uneven curl pattern, easily manipulated (straight or curly)
CG/ModCG/not CG: modified CG

Hair ingredient likes: AVG, still researching
Hair ingredient dislikes: again still researching, I know Biotera curl creme was not my friend- FRIZZ CITY

Hard/Soft Water: hard

HG/Go-to Products: Biotera leave-in and gel, LOOB, HESMU, AVG for touch-ups

Average climate/dew points: 60/70 dews in summer, 20/30 dews in winter. Gotta love New England!!

Fall/Winter combos: thicker more substantial conditioners and products
Spring/Summer combos: thinner, lighter conditioners and products

Favorite styling techniques and why: plopping with flour sack towel (promotes curl and less frizz), diffusing w/ cup-like diffuser (again promotes curl pattern), clipping roots for volume, gel is a must or no curl, apply product to very wet hair, satin pillowcase to reduce frizz, no touching freshly washed hair until COMPLETELY dry
Techniques that didnít work and why: microfiber towels (too much frizz), combing in product (pulled out curl and less clumps), pinapple-ing works so-so

Hair Twins: LC is a definate candidate....still looking for that special someone! hee!

Characteristics: medium root curl, hard to straighten, hard to weigh down, easily frizzes, very dry without conditioners, curls clump and stay with product, can easily be fingercombed.

CG/ModCG/not CG: ModCG

Hair ingredient likes: Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol and Behentrimonium Methosulfate

Hair ingredient dislikes: Oils, that bean tree ingredient, tallow, mineral oil/petroleum, isopropyl alcohol.

Hard/Soft Water: As long as I clarify once in a while, it doesn't matter.

HG/Go-to Products: Lisa Akbari Clarifying Cleansing Balance Shampoo, Aveeno Nourish + Condition Leave-in Treatment, Aquage Healing Conditioner, Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner, Mop Top Deep Conditioner...but I have more!

Spring/Summer combos: Aveeno Leave-in with glycerin, Mixed Chicks Leave-in, Curl Gel-les-c, Garnier Fructis Soft Curl Cream

Favorite styling techniques and why:
Fingercombing, plopping while hair is wet, and pineappling. Fingercombing encourages the clumps, plopping gets out excess product w/out drying out my hair, and pineappling keeps the clumps longer.

Techniques that didnít work and why: Overnight plopping. My hair does not look nice the next day when it has been wet overnight.

My Hair Biography
CG/Not CG/Mod CG: Not CG
Type: Oily
Curl Pattern: 2c
Texture: Fine/Medium
Porosity: Medium
Density: Medium
Elasticity: Medium
Characteristics: Espresso brunette, tight waves, lightweight, maintains style well, low maintenence, red highlights show when light (not florescent light) reflects off of it, prone to tangling, prone to frizz

Hair ingredient likes: Shea butter, tea tree, peppermint, aloe, avocado oil, olive oil, palm oil, floral extracts, fruit extracts, glycerin, water-soluble silicones, vegetable extracts, sea salt

Hair ingredient dislikes: Mineral oil (if used long-term), non-water-soluble silicones, the CG method (my hair is WAY too oily for that)

Hard/Soft water: Hard

HG/Go-to products: GF Triple Nutrition, HE Long Term Relationship, HE Hello Hydration, Any of the HE gels and spray gels

Average climate/dew points: Always changing with the seasons

Seasonal combos: Summer: HEBE gel, Winter and fall: HESMU gel and spray gel, Spring: HETT gel and HETMS spray gel

Favorite styling techniques and why: Washing the night before so I don't have to worry about waiting for my hair to dry - I can just flip it around! Also, I use gel when I get out of the shower and refresh with spray gel, and before bed I tie my hair into a bunch of scrunchies and then take them out in the morning.....when dry, I usually just spray, finger comb, and go.

Techniques that didn't work out and why: Diffusing - it made my hair a frizzy and matted mess, pineappling - ponytails make my hair tangly because I'm always active, drip drying - too clumpy and no separation whatsoever, the CG method altogether - my hair is too oily for it and it gave me greasy hair and dandruff.

Hair twins: Possibly E2e
