Oh, yeah, I didn't mean that my hair won't look messy in some ways. I'm not expecting it to be uniform like curly hair. Just more that it's not clumped very well... and the stringy waves are all over the place. The first 10 days of CG my hair seemed to always clump in the same way and I got really used to that, so much that my hair doesn't seem right now. Maybe that was just luck, though and I can't expect that to always happen. I've also seen like 50% of my wave fall out within 3 or 4 hours of SOTC these past 2 days. It's just throwing me off. I have to calm down about it though, I know. Maybe I just got super lucky at first and now I have to realise it's not always going to be a good hair day for me!
I have the same almost straight bottom layer as you and I'm definitely seeing some wave to it now, too.
I know i'm being a pain in the butt. As I said in my first post on these boards, the past 3 years i've spent thinking I just had unruly straight hair, so I'd just tie it back and forget about it every day. Now that I know I actually have wavy hair, i'm going, admittedly, a little too nuts over it all, lol.
And thank you so much, for that last paragraph. I know I was being ridiculous worrying about it... but knowing what your friend said and showed you... that helps so so much.
Thank you for the advice/information

hehehe, no worries! You're not being ridiculous. I made my friend show me because I didn't believe her when she told me that her hair wouldn't do the same thing as mine haha. I thought she was just being nice to me. I'm ever the skeptic!

Goob, too funny about your friend! I remember in college I assumed that everyone's hair would do what mine did, because until college I thought mine was straight. It wasn't until some truly straight-haired friends let theirs air dry that I believed them.
Oh, and I successfully got 2nd day hair today! It's not terribly wavy (I accidentally used the boyfriend's evil shampoo with no SLS but 'cones yesterday because it looked like mine in the shower), but it looks pretty good, for being 2nd day, and in the cold and windy winter.
I just sprunched the tiniest bit of water to refresh, and used about a quarter-sized dollop of HETT mousse, then SOTC.

Correcto! Looks VERY good for second day. I will have to take a pic of my 2nd day hair (NOT!) someday so you can all bask in the loveliness.

Hmm...day 2 of fully CG and its not toooo bad...there is soome good definition and a ringlet has formed on one side which is rather encouraging but my short lyers are looking better than the longer ones. It is looking a little greasy though and the back is well...not right but I am sure thats just my hair transitioning.
So:
CO with Simple condish
rinse out with Garnier Fructis Fortifying condish
Pink Boots
AVG
Diffuser dry

I'm with you Alex...I NEVER get second day hair. I am going to try a suggestion goober made on another thread with AOMM (or I may try the above since I have the HETT mousse), but I don't have high expectations...

I'll stop being a pain in the butt in this thread soon, I promise!
I figured i'd go back to my usual product combination today, to see if that helped the stringiness, but it's still getting worse.
I'm doing exactly as I was before, with the super soaker method, but my hair's just not responding to it. Even as I gently scrunch water up into my hair I see little strand groups kinda entwined with some decent clumps, but still sticking out and looking like they're not soaking properly. Even when I poured water down over my hair those stringy bits still didn't want to fall in line,
Does anyone know of a possible reason for this? Maybe over-conditioning, lack of moisture, protein, etc? Or is this just bad luck and something I'll have to deal with?
I've tried searching the boards for some information, but all I can find is people with a stringiness problem and then others suggesting they use the SS or IceQueen method. I can't find anyone who's been using one of those methods who then developed this issue.

I'm new to the "2's" and want to play!
I am not CG so I just washed and conditioned today with regular old shampoo/conditioner (Pantene Restoratives). After taking it out of the towel I sprayed it with a little Sexy Hair Concepts Smooth & Shine Arreated Anti Frizz spray (I have the correct name in my sig. line - too lazy to look it up now ), comb it through and smooth in some AOMM, and another small spray of the SHC spray. Air dry and then I just picked up random pieces and blew them dry from underneath.
This combo gives me full, shiny, soft waves and I love it.

Method: Air dry for 20 to 30 minutes, then blow dry the under sections for about 5 minutes for volume.
2/3 mix waves/curls - coarse, frizz prone, med. thick, porous, at-home color for gray, NOT CG, regular S&C 3x a week. I hate crunchy hair or using too many products. Love my hair now!

So...I did a PT with the Nexxus Emergencee I finally found. Then used DoC with BRHG over the top. Used a little Deva Set it Free as well. Results were...OK. My curls felt a lot softer, which was nice. The back is doing weird things, though. I also was out in the mist/rain all day and I'm sure that didn't help. The flash is making my hair color look weird (and much shinier than it is in person!!) in these photos...

This is what I did...
And I hate coming after <beanjelly> b/c her hair looks so freaking awesome!!
I did a DT today with Vive Pro Nutri Gloss condish, mixed w/ teaspoon of honey, rolled up like a plop into a t-shirt for an hour, removed that, rinsed, and put in alot of garnier fructis LI creme, and some HETT gel, rolled again in the t-shirt plop thing for about an hour maybe more, then took it out and air dried it all day!
This is what I got, soft, defined curls, but my hair looks SOAKING WET! Still have the flat top thing going on, but hopefully that will change with my layered cut coming next week? Anyways, this was a failed experiment, I do not like the "wet look", I SOTC with wet hands and it dried, no crunch, but still looks soaking wet and it's almost completely dry, a little damp at the roots and that's it!!!

So yeah about today
Ugh. Used all on ground products (as I'm reviewing my on ground products on the blog this weekend). My hair is not loving the combo I used today.
I used EO Sweet Orange and Honey shampoo and condish (those I like) and then used LOOC as a leave in. I then used the Giovanni More Body Hair Thickener gel and some BRHG on top of that.
I got very curly areas (my back has several nice spirals) but my canopy is super straight. My hair also has very little body. It's a little frizzy but that's prolly cuz I was out in the rain w/o an umbrella for my shopping trips today.
Not sure if it was the LOOC or the new Giovanni or the combo thereof. BRHG might have pushed it over the edge.
I'll try something different tomorrow. My shescentit came today so I'm going to try it out tomorrow. Just one new condish (the rest were repeat purchases of things I ran out of).

Angiekay, if the pics are the ones on your fotki, color me jealous! I love your waves. Even when mine's longer, I don't have that uniform or tight a wave pattern.
Hair envy!

Love, thy name is KCCC. I found this for only $18.99 (normally $26) at Whole Foods near me, and decided that if I didn't like it, I could always swap it.
So, from start to finish: I used what felt like a ton of AOGBP, because I thought my hair might need some protein. I left that on for approximately 6 to 8 minutes, then rinsed. My hair felt a little dry, so I applied some GFTN (rake, then sprunch upside down) left that on for about 5 minutes, and rinsed upside down. I then sprunched out the excess water, and used a pea-sized amount of GFTN as a leave-in on my canopy. Then I held my breath, and applied the KCCC in four sections, sprunching it in. I then sprunched in about a nickel's worth of HETT gel. I plopped for about 20 minutes, then discovered that my hair was still W-E-T wet, and diffused 90% of the way. In about another 20 minutes, I SOTC.
I adore it. It's picked my waves up in a way that my beloved HETT just hasn't been doing this week. It's true, it did take a longer plop/more time diffusing to get it to set, but I've got root wave again!
I'm going to sleep on it, so I'd imagine I'll need a refresher in the morning. But here are some pics! My hair feels moisturized, touchable, and not product-y (though I was afraid I may have used too much KCCC). The crunch sprunched out nicely, and my hair seems happy.
The only real downside is that it takes longer to diffuse. But I think I can live with that!

Yes they are the same, and thank you! I think that's actually the first compliment I've gotten in a very long time, except from DH! TY, and I moved the photos into another folder, so it's deleted them from here, ooops. And I fixed them, they are up in the same post!

Your waves are very nice and they are super uniform (which is something most of us wavies that don't have uniform curls will envy you for!)
Maybe it was the oils? I'm not familiar with the GF Leave-in--what's it got in it? We use the GFTN for my daughter and it is very oilheavy but her hair loves it...have you tried heat for your DT? I find I can leave them in way less time and they work much better than just leaving stuff in for a while.
I had some strange oil experiences with Jessicurl products (stylers) so I can relate...I would just minimize products and see if you can get the wet look to go away. You could even try no plopping and see if that helps...just scrunch out the water with your tshirt or curl towel.
How is it now?
