So 2's what did you do to your hair today?

Finale-- I have the same curl wanna be on that same side lol. Whenever it doesn't fall flat that is hehe. but when I do get a ringlet, its right there on that side hah.

Goldie -- this is funny, I'm going to be DEL's police for her, but I think the point of spritz and condish is to do it with a "real" conditioner as opposed to an "instant" conditioner. Suave is an instant conditioner as opposed to something with real emolliency. Now if you're worried about getting oc'd I see why you picked it. But I think you can get away with something a little heavier if you're spritz and condish. Don't use a whole lot though.

Sorry, was just sayin it before DEL did lol. Feel free to modify anything to your needs.

Have you by chance tried or like any Deva prods? I was in FL a couple weeks ago and went to Ulta for the FIRST time ever! LOL Anyway, I picked up some MOP LI Conditioner and DevaCurl Angell. O-M-G! I had the best hair days ever! No frizz and soft, bouncy curls. The MOP LI says to apply right after you shampoo so I did, then applied the Angell. Air dried for about 20-30 mins then diffused a bit...and BAM! Awesome...simply awesome. So if CK isn't working for you, you might try this combo. Just a thought...

FYI on the MOP...it does have a PEG cone so if you're trying to avoid those you may not be interested.

Okay you guys, you know that I'm not really Bill Nye the Science guy, and I'm just mostly PRETENDING here right? None of this info is confirmed and this is just as I understand things I've read from the bajillion websites about hair. Which does not make me an expert, it just makes me behind on my housework/homework and confused heh.

There are several differing opinions on conditioners and what they do for your hair. In the natural hair care camp, as well as the CG camp, they have relegated (can you see, I'm trying to sound intelligent here) certain conditioners to a category called "instant" conditioners because they don't contain enough "nourshing" ingredients. There are ingredients that can supposedly penetrate through the cuticle and nourish the hair shaft. Some oils -- coconut oil and olive -- are almost universally agreed on that they provide moisture to the interior of the hair itself.

When the conditioner ingredients are mostly ones that just lay on the surface of the shaft, or just "coat" it. That's when it gets labeled "instant". You'll find that this terminology varies but in general this tends to be true. Suave is considered "instant" because the majority of the ingredients high on the list are just detanglers and "conditioner" ingredients to improve how the hair feels, but not actually provide long term moisture.

But just to provide perspective, those in the "scientific" camp believe that no conditioner actually improves the condition of the hair. Most everyone universally agrees that olive oil and coconut oil actually penetrate, so they like these ingredients, but there it sorta stops. They believe that allll conditioners are instant, and that's all any conditioner can be because nothing penetrates the hair shaft. They don't believe in the cuticle closing and opening theory, and don't think that ACV rinses actually effect the cuticle.

Of course there are many stages of belief inbetween. So take that info and chomp on it lol.

Now I know the next question is going to be what ingredients to look for, that I don't really know how to answer. I look for the fatty alcohols, coconut oil or olive oil, something that's not just a slip agent (like BTMS or steralkolrim chloride (not spelled correctly).

Okay, I just got a phone call, so I'm going to have to cut this short, but hopefully that answered your question to some degree.

Looking at the stuff in your siggie, I can say that the CJ Rehab, GVP and Lustrasilk are NOT considered instant conditioners. Does that help? hehehe.

Oh thanks for the tip invu! I've been using the No-poo a lot lately, and just got the Set it free. I really kinda like the set it free.

PEG cones are fine for me Its just flat out dimethicone that drags me down.

I'm still trying different ways to shower at night. Last night I used leave in, curl cream and a little bit of gel. Then, I put on a satin bonnet instead of putting it in a pineapple. In the morning, I misted my hair with water and diffused. I have great volume, good clumps and curl definition, but I have a little more frizz and less shine. I still think this is one of my better attempts. I just hate to sleep wearing that ugly thing to bed every night. I feel bad for my poor husband. But I learned that the pineapple is probably what is flattening my curls.

Holy cow Motley -- that is a huge difference between the pineapple and the bonnet! I can see the frizz, but I don't think its that bad.

one time to mess with my hubby's head, I wore his silk boxers over my hair. hahahahhahaha! it was awesome. He took a pic, but my friends were like, "and this is different from normal how?"

Goobernut - Ha! I'll try the boxers next When I first started CG, I slept in a plop. The only long sleeve t-shirt I could find was my husband's camouflage t-shirt - so I was wearing a camo turban to bed. Very sexy!

Last night I got my hair cut to even out the layers and give it a trim (it had been 12 weeks since my last trim, and that one involved a razor). I think everything is pretty uniform now, and it should grow out nicely. She blew it out, and I have to say I enjoyed it being straight for the night (that's the great thing about being a wavy, right???). Also, she thought I was mostly fine (not a mixture).

The first 2 pictures are from this morning before I worked out, so it had been slept on. Since I worked out I had to wash my hair, and I had to low-poo (not just co-wash) since she put some finishing stuff in it last night. I then went to my tried and true - AOMM and HESMU. I think it turned out pretty well, but since it is a little shorter from the trim it needs to grow a teeny bit to get more wave back. I'm just happy I don't have the razored ends anymore and it is more even all over.

Thanks, solidgold and dark_waves.

Dark_waves, the cut looks great! I'll have to look into the AOMM. I've heard good things about it.

Dark -- I have to try your combo! it looks great. I keep forgetting I have both of those products. Glad your cut turned out great.

Motley -- love the camo visual hahaha.

goldie -- psychology. I've transferred a ton of times (hazard of being a military wife) and so basically I'm a sophomore. again. for the 3rd time. Anyway, I've finally figured out a fool proof way to get my bachelors lol. I realllllllllllly desperately want to at least get my masters (you can't do much with just a bachelor's in psych), but I'll have to see where we are living (and if that university will accept me) when I'm at that point. I'd reallly like to get my PhD (jealous!!!), but I have so far to go and I have no idea where we are going to retire to so I'm limited.

I loove anthropology!! Hubby and I would be professional students if we could. our goal is for me to get my masters, and then he's going to retire from the military and become a writer/professional student with his GI bill.

I have been following CG for a week and a half and this is the first day that I'm actually happy! I think I finally figured out how to make my waves clumpy rather than stringy. I have previously been raking product through and today I scrunched. I'm thinking that was the winning action.

Too bad when one thing works another doesn't - my hair is very frizzy. I'll post a photo when I'm home from work. I think I'm going to try the same thing tomorrow, but add a leave in to help combat frizz. Do you think that would help?

Co-wash: Suave Coconut
Rinse Out: AO GPB
Scrunch in: CCCC then Artec Texturline Gel
Gekko, that is some good hair! When are you going to try the HETT mousse? And what's your thesis in? Believe me, I am shuddering.

As for the Ph.D., I'm afraid I'm pretty negative about the process. I think one can get a great skill set and job opportunities at the Master's level in 1-3 years, depending on your program. Keep in mind that the Ph.D. can take 5-8 years (or more!). In addition, I tell people who are thinking about Ph.D. programs to find a program with structure (year 1, year 2, year 3, dissertation) and funding to support you/your family/your lifestyle. I wish someone had pointed these things out to me before I started, and I also wish someone had made me think about the choices/compromises/sacrifices I would have to make to finish this undertaking. Let me end with this: the Ph.D. is a degree of perseverance, not of smarts or talent.

End rant. I'd be happy to give more of my opinion if anyone's interested. *goes back to work*

Fascinating, Gekko! I bet a degree like yours is in high demand.

Will wait to see your hair results tomorrow!

And Goober, anthro is a lot like psych, as you probably already know! Good luck with your current program, and I hope you find the grad program that works for you!
